Riddle House (Horcrux Hunt) ((Matt and Khaat))

Jess turned around and saw the skull, still rolling after matt kicked it, fall down the stairs, one at a time, before being blasted into nothingness by matt's spells. "Poor frank," he muttered quietly to himself, turning around shaking his head at matt. "idiot," he said, "If that was khaat, how would you feel?" he asked, grinning a bit, but jumping into the air as a thud and a scrape was heard above them, followed by dust falling from the roof

Jess raised an eyebrow and looked at matt, wondering if he knew that this wasn't the top level, and that he could not reach the roof from where he was. "In the attic," he mouthed, before rolled his eyes and pulling the cord, revealing an old set of stairs leading intoa pitch black room above.

Khaat followed them, but she wasn't the least bit interested in chasing noises. She was perplexed by this odd key and stone bit. Something wasn't right with that, and it hammered at her brain, frustrating her. As Jess and Matt started to enter the attic, she was drawn away, towards where the bedrooms would have been, down the hall. She found rooms full of delapidated furniture, where it had been left behind years before. She explored the rooms, and in the second room, she found a box. A wooden chest not a lot bigger than a cigar box, made of wood and overlaid in silver. She opened the chest and found it was lined in pure quartz crystal. The box was empty. Her brain started to try to connect the dots, and she didn't like what she was adding up. She put the box in the large black leather tote she always carried, and was careful to not let the hematite stone she found come in any sort of contact with the box. She turned then and followed Matt and Jess up the stairs, "Jess, where's that key you found?" She asked.

Jess looked around the attic, keeping an eye out for an attacker. There were plenty of opportunities for one to be hiding. There was plenty of crap around, boxes of moth bitten clothes, TV Guides, phone books, trunks, all that sort of thing. He continued to look, knowing someone was there. What he didn't notice, was the cloak stand, swaying as the cloak that was resting on it picked up the breeze. It was a shame he didn't notice it, because it finally fell, and hit jess, causing him to scream and fire spells of all sorts around the place, and fall over, with the cloak landing on him

Khaat picked up the cloak rack, and set it back up. "Would you quit playing around? Jeesh!" She shook her head, not seeing anything up there but Jess, Matt and a lot of old rubbish to get into mischief with. "I'm serious. I need that damned key."

Jess rummaged through his robes and pulled it out. "Promise to give it back?" he asked, "And what for?" He added curiously, putting it in her hands. He had a feeling he would want that key, he was strangely attracted to it to be honest, it was very, very weird. "No one's here," he said quietly, looking around, one of his spells had destroyed a section of the roof, and now it was easy to see, and was very wet. He walked to the window and nodded, it was as he expected. A bit of mud was on the window sill, still wet, as though it'd just falled off someone's boots and onto it

"It IS part of the puzzle to that big hematite stone," Khaat said, "We just didn't have all the pieces. We do now. This is potentially, extraordinarily bad. We need to be sure that we keep all the pieces and that we do not actually ever put them together, and certainly never put the horcrux together with it. You both wanna see what I found?"

She drew out the wooden box and showed it to them. "What's important is the inside of the box. Look here. Lined with pure quartz crystals. Do you get it? Do you know what this is?"

jess nodded, still looking perplexed. "I'm still lost," he said quietly, hoping matt was too. "Can you explain?" he asked sheepishly. "And then show?" He added
