Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Lesson 1- N.E.W.T. Level - Page 4 Empty Re: Lesson 1- N.E.W.T. Level

Post by Elizabeth Krum Thu Sep 16, 2010 5:57 am

Elizabeth raised her hand and spoke, "Morsmordre is a spell that produces a form of the Dark Mark, made of glowing green particles, that hovers in the air. Made appearance in the air over the Quidditch World Cup back in 1994 that summer." She had answered the professor question. She was sitting down in the class room, no one saw her come in without a sound but she was sitting down the whole time listening to Professor Wilson saying that the Dark Arts professor is an idiot by having a Dark Arts class for students. What a start for a professor who wants to complain why Sandra Archer should even be teaching Dark Arts at Hogwarts. She didn't say nothing even though she may be in the class to learn some information. But Elizabeth is no idiot, she has a mind of her own.

She didn't like how Professor Wilson how he talk to Jack Dyllan that way and thought he shouldn't be the Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts if he going to talk that way to students. There should be a better teacher than Professor Wilson.

''Correct, both of you. Morsmordre is a signature spell used by the Dark Army and we shall, when dealing with all of that, see how it works and functions. I do think that is all I had to say... wait, no... could any of you tell me what kind of magic we are going to practice? Some spells, some ways of performing them... rather rhetorical questions, but still... it is a question that should be answered on this class... Also, ten points for Gryffindor, good job Jack and you... whose name I do not know, but still, good job'', he said, waiting for the answer to his, probably, final question of the day.

"Elizabeth" Elizabeth spoke but she wasn't finished, "Elizabeth Potter is the name and the answer to your question of what kind of magic we are going to practice is defensive techniques to block spells that are cast by other wizards and witches, counteract the Dark Arts." She said as knew this well enough and but she didn't like how a professor would forget names but she didn't say anything about it since he is teaching about a thousands students any way. If the professor was a better nicer teacher, she would like this class but this is what everyone seems to get.

''A First year could have given such a generalized answer! I want names, spell names, incantations and forms of using them... you do not cast each spell the same way, especially if you're in my age or older. Now, to repeat the question... Could any of you tell me what kind of magic we are going to practice? Some spells, some ways of performing them? Also, do be precise on your next answer.... and give others a chance... this isn't a Prize winning speech you are holding...'', he commented.

Lesson 1- N.E.W.T. Level - Page 4 Empty Re: Lesson 1- N.E.W.T. Level

Post by James Wake Fri Sep 17, 2010 1:07 am

James' patience was being rubbed raw. It was certainly unfair that Mr. Wilson was picking on the students. It was even worse that he still wanted the correct answer after each failure. James considered raising his hand, but he did not bother. He said the following clearly and loudly. His own attitude was about to become a problem, but now it didn't matter.
"We will be practicing non-verbal spellcasting," James stated looking at his notes. "Various shielding spells, and then we'll learn about various Dark Arts spells. Sir." James closed his books, and scribbled down an additional note. James Wake -10 Points from Ravenclaw. "If you want, sir, I can recite the ENTIRE syllabus."

Post by Brienne Ravenquist Fri Sep 17, 2010 1:25 am

Brienne looked over at James, then whispered "Good one". She then turned her attention back to the teacher, Mr. Wilson.

"If we knew entire definitions, and the entire syllabus of the class in and out already, we wouldn't need to take it, would we? It'd be just a big waste of time for you to teach people what they'd already know, wouldn't it? It's an exercise in futility. You expect us to bow down in front of you and lick your boots like servants, don't you know the golden rule? 'Treat others as you wish to be treated'. That's how it is through life, treat people how you wish to be treated. If you desire respect, then you gotta give it back as well. It's not a one way street".

Brienne went to work on some parchment, doodling little pictures in the margins of her notes, pictures of Daniel being hailed a hero by all for slaying a problem dragon.

''Of course you can, Wake... you're a smart Ravenclaw, aren't you?'', he asked with a dose of symbolic irony. ''And yet, somehow I am obliged to do something on our first class. You want me to demonstrate on you what we should be doing?'', he asked.

''Now... as for your behavior... Ten points for Ravenclaw, Wake's memorized answer was correct, but also... homework... I want five paragraphs about The Dark Army... what you know... what you think... everything. Five paragraphs minimum... deadline is Tuesday. Those of you who do not hand in their assignments get a T. And that is all! Class dismissed'', he said, heading for his desk.

Lesson 1- N.E.W.T. Level - Page 4 Empty Re: Lesson 1- N.E.W.T. Level

Post by Amelia Lyons Mon Sep 20, 2010 11:53 pm

Amelia dotted the last of the i's on her page of notes with a flourish and then wiped the nib of her quill on a piece of cloth intended for that purpose. The class had not been overtly taxing academically, but socially, Amelia was already exhausted - and this would not be her last class of the day.

She took mental note of the assignment given, knowing she would have to get started on it tonight, and began to pack up her things. As she finished her packing, Amelia looked sidelong at the Ravenclaw girl that had cost their house the points she had earned only one hour earlier. She had seen the girl many times before, but had never found her to be of any particular note. In the past few weeks, though, she had turned up over and over again, each time giving Amelia very peculiar looks. Of course, many of her peers gave her an array of glances due to her reputation for being icy, but this girl seemed to have a personal cause against Amelia that the redhead had yet to figure out.

It doesn’t matter, Amelia’s subconscious reminded her as she slung her bag over her shoulder and headed for the door, It’s not as if she’d be the first one to dislike you.

And with that, Amelia left the classroom and her classmates behind her and headed for her next lesson.
