When chase took Sterling's hand, a jolt of electricity shot through him comfortably. It eased him, interrupting his thoughts and directing him back to reality. He smiled at her. "Oh it's all right, I just er... remembered a bit of homework I still had to do." he lied. He didn't want to let go of her hand and held it firmly. He felt guilty for getting so offended--it was probably a friendly gesture more than anything else, he told himself adamantly. He accidentally scooted a little closer again.

Chase felt him grip her hand harder and she smiled. Poor guy. He was falling under the charm of Chase. She had to admit, he was quite charming. So polite and nice. "Oh."She said looking at him carefully. "Well...maybe you should do that."She said not letting his hand go. He seemed to be more at ease now that he was holding it, and she was happy to help. She smiled at him again and looked at the fire for a second. Just then a roll of thunder sounded and rain lashed the windows. Plunging their room into almost complete darkness except for the fire in the middle of the room. Smiling she looked back at Sterling.

Then Sterling died.

Sterling heard the rolling thunder outside, accompanied by a sinister flash of lightning. He was close enough now to feel her heat emanating from her. He leaned in and rested his head tentatively on her shoulder. It eased the strain on his neck that was so often used craning over books. He closed his eyes and smiled contentedly.

Chase stiffened slightly when he leaned his head on her shoulder. Then she relaxed and giggled. Poor guy must be exhausted, he must have spent all night studying or something. She smiled and stared at the fire. It sure was nice, the soft crackling of flames, the pretty lightening that was flashing outside. She smiled contentedly. "This is nice."She said softly.

Sterling didn't register her momentary stiffening and relaxed to the gentle crackling of the fire. "It is," he agreed, and reluctantly sat back up and released his firm grip on her hand. He yawned, very tired despite it being in middle of the day.

Chase looked at him and felt his hand let go of hers. It felt oddly cold. Glancing down at it she turned and looked at him. "Are you ok?"She asked slowly. "Not just because you yawned, but just, in general." She said softly as she looked at him carefully. She had her eyes narrowed because of the feeble light they were now presented with. This was odd. She felt an odd...fluttering in her stomach. Must be her cold, making her stomach upset.

"I'm always tired." Sterling said simply. This was true, he stayed up to all hours of the night with his wand illuminated reading and studying, only to wake up earlier than the rest to make up spells and sneak in some more studying before his first class... waking up more tired than he fell asleep.

He felt warm and comfortable here. He stared back at her, head slightly bowed with his dark gray irises rolled upward so he could see her to meet her gaze.

Chase smiled slightly at him. "Maybe you should go to sleep earlier."She said smiling at him and holding up a peace sign again. "I love to sleep, I probably sleep like a cat."She said smiling. "I go to bed early and wake up with enough time to hop in the shower and go eat breakfast before school starts. Sometimes I don't even have enough time to eat breakfast."She said laughing her eyes closed. She opened her eyes again and looked at him. "It's nice to sleep sometimes."She said softly looking him right in the eyes.

"Sleep is such a waste of time..." Sterling said. It was true, all the things he could be doing conscious, why was his biology so limited that it required such time wasting? But he couldn't ignore her second comment... it was good to sleep sometimes after all...

He melted as she stared into his eyes. He stared back, transfixed. The fire extinguished, leaving the room dark and cold, but he took no notice. The ash sat stagnant on the classroom floor. A flash of lightning, the thunder took several seconds to respond... it was much further away now...

Chase looked at him silently when the fire went out she didn't move. There was something in the way he was staring at her. Something that made her stomach tingle. Stupid cold. She jumped slightly when a rather loud bang of thunder went off and she was momentarily distracted. Looking over her shoulder at the window and watched the lightening flash. She turned around and looked back at Sterling her eyes wide.
