"Well," Robert said, "perhaps I need to go talk to them. I don't suppose their minds will rest until they've had a chance to de-stress. I suppose I might be the same way if I were either of them."
"Don't lie. You'd be worse," Kate said. "Especially if you were Brian."
"You don't think I could deal with a flashburn?" he frowned.
"You're a control nut," Edward said. "You'd be running the Ministry and the hospital and your family from your bed. Men like us don't know when to stop."
"Thank you, Edward," Kate said, glad he agreed with her. Robert didn't reply. He just went upstairs to talk to Khaat and Brian. He sat for a long time on the edge of their bed, just talking to them. He was gone the better part of an hour before he returned. By then, Kate had her floor plan done and Edward had gone back to Tuscany. He reached the bottom of the stairs and Michael Tremaine apparated in and grasped Robert by the front of his shirt and jerked him closer to his face.
"You're a damned lousy father, Ozzy," Michael hissed in Robert's face.
"What'd I do this tiime?" Robert frowned.
"You let your kids get hurt and you didn't tell me? What's that all about?"
"No, that makes me a lousy friend, not a lousy father," Robert said, pulling his shirt loose from him. "I was taking care of my kids, as a matter of fact. They're fine. A bit edgy, but..."
"Well, they have a right to be," Michael said.
"Do you want to be filled in or not?" Robert scowled. He motioned Michael into the kitchen. "Tea's hot."
"It's always hot," Michael said, taking out a mug and filling it with tea. He took a sip. "Lovely tea, Kate."
"Its just Earl Grey," she shrugged.
"I know," he gave her a slight smile. She just laughed.
"So what did they say?" Kate asked.
"Well, after they got done venting, I suggested they go on their trip anyway," Robert said. "Brian is considering Venice. It's always had good memories for them, and right now they need something positive. He is considering a few day trips into the countryside, but he is very much thinking it might be good for them. And by the time they've recovered their strength and cleared up the breathing issues, Khaat might well be close to getting her sight back. Right now she sees no point in going if she' can't see, and I do understand that. I don't agree with it, but I understand that. For the moment, Brian wants to pick out some new clothing for her to replace what she lost. She lost quite a lot of her smaller sizes in her wardrobe. She's going to have a hard time finding things that fit.
"Oh, can one or two of you ladies go and pick up a few changes of clothes for her from her closet at home? I do not want her in a nightgown any longer than she has to be. And, I could use one of you gentlemen to do the same for Brian. Along with any necessities they will want or need. And--I could use someone to go to a pet store and buy whatever would make that pooch feel pampered. Steven, there are some of the muggle stores where you can take the pet inside with you. Maybe you might take Enzo and get some things that he likes? Don't worry about cost if any of you need to buy some things."
"How long do you think they'll be here?" Kate asked.
"I'm not sure. Maybe three or four days, but that's just a guess," Robert said. "By then, they might be ready to go back to Tuscany. Angus, would you check with that hotel they have a partnership in and see if the suite they like will be available for them? I'd think certainly by next week this time, they'd be ready to travel. Oh, yes. One more thing. Brian is going to need a new wand. I had Khaat's, but Brian's was lost in either the explosion or the sea. It will have to be replaced immediately."
"Perhaps Thaor would be the man to see about that," Michael said. "And he owes me some money. I think I could talk him into a very nice wand in exchange for his debt."
"You can try," Robert laughed.
