“So we’re both lost… great,” Nerissa mumbled and inhaled slowly. She glanced in Nick’s direction only to catch him looking her way. A look of confusion passed over her face, and she was about to ask him what was wrong when she saw that he had her wand in his hand. She smiled softly and nodded her head, “yes, that is it, thank you,” she replied and took her wand from him, wrapping her fingers around the slender stick once more. It felt good to know that she had some way of protecting herself if anything else decided to sneak up on her.
The young female was silent for a moment before she spoke again, having had to think about her next words for a few moments, “You can never be too sure these days…”, her voice was quiet, as if she was afraid that he would take her words the wrong way and would lash out at her, but at the same time, she managed to keep her face as blank as possible in order to hide her slight unease when he was near her.
Another gust of wind blew through the woods, dancing about the air, and Nerissa couldn’t help but feel relaxed when her hair was blown backwards off of her face and her skin was caressed by the evening air. She closed her eyes and inhaled the forest’s scent- but something ruined the moment, and it had been something that she had been avoiding ever since the events of a terrible evening in Knockturn Alley. Nerissa’s eyelids twitched before snapping open, and when her eyelids did open to reveal her usually warm and friendly eyes, they were wide and filled with a strange mixture of disgust and fear. She shook her head quickly and roughly, as if attempting to knock her thoughts out of her ears.
Blood. She had seen that puddle of crimson liquid on the floor again when she had closed her eyes. It had been the reason she had avoided sleep for days, and the reason she would only close her eyes for a long period of time when she had no other choice but to do so- but that moment of relaxation had caused her to forget, and it had been a terrible shock indeed.
Nerissa glanced at Nick, but quickly darted away when her imagination caused her to see his face slathered in his own blood. She rubbed her face quickly and took a few steps forward, hoping that Nick hadn’t noticed, and that it whatever was going on her, would cease. “Uh- I- I came this way, so our best bet is to fallow this path…” she croaked in an attempt to make normal conversation.
