The Splintered Dreams

He looked at her when she spoke "Hah , no catching you out is there" he said as he crossed his arms "dang blast it " he cursed feeling annoyed he could not get up "the quiker i am on my feet the quiker i can get back to work" he sid now feeling rather tired nd grumpy that she would not let him up "yea , janet is... was my wife and john was my son, anything else you wnt to know?" he said as if awnsering her question but making it quite sure he was not going to talk about it any more but turning to look out the window at the sun poring it "I have to warn you i get grumpy when i an cooped up inside too long ,maam"

"Ok," she said, deciding to be a straight shooter with him, "You're a fighter, and so am I. There is no move you can make I won't either be one step in front of you or one step behind. So push all you want. It would do you some good. But you won't get past me. I doubt very highly that you've met many women like me. Certainly not muggle women, anyway. You really have been around muggles much too long. We'll have to hone up that edge of yours a bit when the time comes. And I have a pint riding on it that says I can take you. Whenever you're back in fighting form, I'll take you. I win, you buy. You lose, I buy. Deal?"

Steven looked at her , he was growing to like this doctor she shot straight to the point "deal, better get your wallet out" he said smirking "so what your first order, doc" his brown eyes looking at her now with a glint that had not been there when he first woke "your a straight shooter doc, can't deny that " he sighed as he felt the pins and needles again this time in his thigh he retched down and began rubbing it turning to face her "Cramp" he said quickly with a smirk.

"Those running muscles aren't used to being idle so long.," she said. She simply laid her hand on his thigh and the cramping stopped to her nonverbal command. "Better," She said. " First things first. I want you to get some food. I know you aren't going to like not starting with a big Texas T Bone, but you're not ready for that. " She conjured some of her mother's wine broth--red wine and beef stock and some spices that made it rich and filling.
"Try that. It's a bit better when my mother makes it by hand and not by conjuring, but, oh well..." she sighed. She fed him the broth slowly. She knew what it was like to be hungry for much too long. They had kept him alive on IV feedings, but the man needed food. Something to stop the gnawing in his stomach that he probably hadn't realized yet was there. But this would help him feel much more comfortable and maybe even make him stop fighting her sleep spell for awhile. She really didn't want to have to give him a double dose of that if she didn't have to. "See if that settles your stomach. It always works for me," she said.

He felt her hand on his thigh and jumped "sorry Maam , not use to any one, other than janet" he looked apologeticly at her but was glad when it stopped "boy that feels good" he sat back on the bed he chuckled when she mentioned steak " more like a porter house ,maam" he wathed her conjured up a wonderful smelling soup that only now made his stomach growl out in complaint of the fact he had not eaten solid food in a long time , he felt a bit foolish as she feed him it like a baby but what could he do, he knew if he tried to hold it it would porbably end up mosty over his lap. Having had enouph he held up his hand as he could not help yawn "sorry maam" he said "tell your ma, she's a good cook" he said yawning fo a second time "I've slept for six months and now I get sleepy, strange" he said letting his head rest on the pillow as he faught to keep his eyes open.

"You weren't asleep, Steven. You were unconscious. Two totally different things. It really is time you got some sleep now. That's when your body mends the fastests--when you sleep. By the way, just call me Khaat. I'm presuming you may meet my father later. You'll know him the instant he walks in the room--unless you're really a lot more off your game than I think you are. Go to sleep for now, and I'll check in a bit later."

Steven listened to her and sighed as he yawned again "sounds about right, i remeber sounds but that about it" he felt himself lay heaviy on the bed as he looked at her "maam ... I think your right" he said feeling himself drift off to sleep his tummy full and his mind some what settled ecept for the question of why did the dragon attack his family.

Several hours later he tossed to the nghtmare yet again nthis time when he sat up he called out her name "JANET!!" and reatched into the room breathing hard he cursed himself wiping the sweat from his brow throwing the covers off his legs he slowly moved to sit on th edge of it hoping nobody came in to see him in his hospital gown.

Khaat's office was just around the corner from Steven's room. She heard him cry out and was the first to respond. "Steven," She said gently, "You were dreaming again. Come on. Back into bed. I'll stop those nightmares for you. They're normal after what you've been through." Another healer came in to see what the trouble was, and Khaat ordered a specific potion and dosage. The healer left quickly. Khaat helped him back into bed and covered him. "You can talk about it, you know, "she said, sitting beside him. "It might help. Look, all I know is that you tangled with a dragon, and you were the only one to survive. So, why don't you tell me about it?"

Steven groaned as she came back into the room placing him back under the sheets "I don't need any potions I can do this on my own" he lied to her but he was not about to tell her that he already hated the fact he alll ready felt usless laying in the bed. "what I need is to get up and get back to work" he said feeling the ache his mucles gave even just from the slow movement he had done to sit him self up "Khaat maam, its not running i do, but horse back riding" he said giving in to his mucles complaints "at lest let me shave and clean up" he asked "maybe if i feel like me I'll be incline not to b so stuborn , that is what your thinking right" he said looking at her.

"Steven Cordel Walker," She frowned, calling him straight out about his foolishness, "Don't you dare try to give me a load of horsecrap. First of all, you don't have your healer's certficate. I, however, do. When you get yours, then you are free to determine if you do or do not need a particular potion. Second of all, you don't get that sort of muscle tone from sitting your arse on a horse. Those muscles come from exercise. A lot of it. Hard exercise. Running, Martial arts, just plain gym work. I am not, nor have I ever have been an idiot. You might like to ride horses, but that's not where your build comes from . " Khaat's healer came back. "Help him clean up and refresh himself. He's feeling better finally. If he gives you static, just zap him with a sleep spell. He's not going anywhere." She glared back at him. "Are we very clear, Steven? You will behave until you get well. If I have to petrify you to do it."
