At the Market

Khaat put on her suede boots over her most comfortable jeans, and a warm sweater. She put on her suede jacket, and that brought her eagle, Archangel to come sit on her shoulder. She tucked her wands in the inside pocket of her jacket and put on gloves and grabbed her large black leather shoulder bag that she always carried.

She walked the distance to the other end of the town's main street to the market. She needed from fresh meats for her family and for Archangel, and she needed some fresh fruits. She knew they tried to get raspberries for her and they always had some great apples.

The shopkeeper waved at her as she entered the small local market. He told her they had a new sweet apple he wanted her to be sure and try and then tell him her thoughts. She agreed, and headed over to the fruits.

Calista was setting up her stand with the produce that she grew on the farm. She had potatoes, corn, among other things. She finished shortly after arriving at the market and waited for people to buy some produce from her. She looked around and saw that she had not put the apples on the table and sighed softly. She rearranged everything then set the apples on the table as well.

"Oh, look, Archangel, " Khaat said to her large young bald eagle, "there are the apples. Lets go see." Khaat walked up to the young woman. Her produce looked exceptionally good. Khaat was pleased. She could get a lot of things she needed here. "Your produce looks excellent," Khaat told her. "Tell me about your apples. My buddy here loves apple slices as a treat." Khaat gestured at the eagle.

"Well everything here is home grown on my farm. They are bigger than store bought apples." Calista said as she took a knife out and sliced a piece of an apple. She held it out to the eagle to try it and see how he liked it.

He took the piece eagerly and ate it and craned his head to see if there were more apple slices. "He definately likes those," Khaat laughed. "I'll take a dozen, please. How often are you here? He can eat a lot of apples and a lot of raspberries. I'm afraid I spoil him. His name is Archangel, and he's my very big owl and my best friend. You should see how strange he looks in an owlery with all those little owls." She laughed.

"I'm here every week. I do happen to have raspberries this week they are the last of what i have in store. I bet he does look funny, I've been saving up money for an owl so that i won't have to keep borrowing someone else's owl." Calista smiled softly as she packed up a dozen apples and cut the rest of the apple up and gave it to Archangel. "He's not spoiled he's just well loved. Aren't you boy?" She said smiling.

He made a slight squawk at her in return. "He likes you," Khaat said. "I'll take the raspberries too, please. We will be back for more apples, judging by the way he likes those. I'm Khaat, by the way, Khaat Lupin. And I may send some of the teens that are living with me down for some more produce. I am feeding 3 teenagers right now, so my food budget has gone up a bit." She laughed.

"Well i like him too. He's a very beautiful Eagle." Calista said as she grabbed the raspberries and handed her two pounds of it. "I'm Calista Ferinand. You may send them i do not mind at all. My food budget went up too so don't worry i know what your talking about."

"Nice to meet you, Calista. My parents have a farm up in Cornwall. My father raises crops, and my mother raises the magical creatures that eat the crops." She laughed. "That's how I got Archangel. My mother raised him from a hatchling and trained him. Maybe she has an owl that is ready for service. I'll have to ask her for you."

"Oh thank you Khaat. It is a pleasure to meet you as well. It's just a hassle trying to take care of the farm and then look for an owl. Oh if you ever wanna try horse back riding your welcome to come see what horses i have to ride." Calista said smiling at her.
