Twilight Time

Chase spun around to look at Thomas her hand inches from her wand.
"Thomas! Oh thank Merlin!"She said a relaxed smile on her face. She
stumbled away from the girl and looked back at Thomas. A small tear
had escaped her eye and was slowly sliding down her face. Then she
realized what he had said. "Fresh meat.."She said and her look of
relief was replaced by a look of horror. She looked from the girl to
Thomas and back terrified.

When he received the look of fear from her, Thomas's heart almost melted, but he could not show it. Instead he returned an evil smile to her. "Figured it out did you?" Saying it was killing him, but he showed no signs of weakness for her. His friendship with her was now over, they were now enemies. Something he would never forgive himself for doing. "Oh, look at the terrified wittle baby! Thomas isn't the nice guy he pretended to be afterall!" He made a fake crying noise and pretended to wipe the tears from his eyes.

"Stupid foolish girl. How could you ever think a Slytherin and a Gryffindor could be friends. That day was a joke, a prank, and you were the end result of it."

Chase stared at him tears falling down her face now. "I..I thought you
were my friend!"She yelled at him struggling to stand up. "What about
that note?"She asked staring at him her back turned on the other girl. She stared up at Thomas tears falling down her face. "I thought I could trust you."She said shaking her head as she spun to try and grab her wand.

Chase felt something hit her that couldn't be described. She saw the wand turned on her, but hadn't heard a spell. Agony speared through her body. She screamed unable to hold it back. She writhed on the ground unable to control most of her motor functions anymore. She whimpered loudly and shut her eyes tight her body on fire she was sure. The agony was to much to handle and she screamed again.

Thomas felt like his heart was going to melt. This girl, the first person who had ever shown any type of emotion towards him, was now at his mercy. He could easily save her and diffuse the entire situation, but he knew he would not. Instead he stood there standing in front of her with a defiant smile on his face, a face that showed no regret for what he did, only pride, even though his brain was screaming at him for how stupid he was. But he figured he could relay a message to her.

"It was a prank Chase, a scam. I went home and me and my friends all laughed at your stupidity." He knew she would be the only one to know what he was talking about, and he hoped that she would take his subtle hint. "Just always remember." He hoped she knew he was referring to the note, but he was not for sure.

His thoughts were interupted when Nerezza sent out the Crucio curse. Nerezza was also someone he admired now, a new Death Eater who was not afraid to do anything. If this had been any other time, any other time in the world, he probably would have loved that she attacked with so little emotion, but not this time. He turned to her quickly and shouted at her "What are you doing?! We are on school grounds! Are you crazy, you are going to get us caught!"

Sterling had been watching the scene since Tom had entered. He had been following Tom... going to ask him about the mission. He didn't care about the mission now... all he saw was Chase, screaming in agony, with a 7th year Slytherin girl he had never met before pointing her wand and Chase. His Chase! Hate as he had never felt it bubbled and frothed inside him. He jumped out of his hiding place, Chase's screams still piercing the air. He was now sure her pain pained him more than it could possibly be paining Chase. Impulsively, the screamed the incantation he knew so well but had never before used... "Avada kadavra!" he screamed, louder than Chase, his wand pointed from a hundred yards a way dead eye at the Slytherin girl.

Sterling's anger was temporarily appeased as Chase's screams stopped. He cleared his head for a moment... there was no need to kill. But when she pointed her wand at Chase again, the anger inside him doubled... he had not even managed to effectively distract her, let alone stop her.

"Avada kadavra!" he screamed furiously. Then went for spells he knew better... he needed the Slytherin to focus on something other than Chase. "Stupefy! Impedimenta! Petrificus totalus!" He heard himself screaming on impulse, all the while sprinting forward until he was close enough to get into a proper duel... Sterling didn't care if he died, so long as he was able to stop Chase's pain...
