Edward looked at him. "You're not thinking, and that's the entire issue. Literally. Every battle is either won or lost right here..." He pointed to his head. "It depends on where your mind is at. As long as you see this as some form of sibling rivalry, you're screwed.
"You wont' beat him that way, as you just found out. However, if you're smart, this could turn out to be the place where he misstepped and got too cocky about it.
"If you stop trying to beat him animal to animal, and you decide to actually handle this like a man, that might make all the difference.
"No man in his right mind would go toe to toe with a werewolf on his own. Not unless he had no other choice and was going into it fully prepared to die. And you go into every encounter with him as if this is nothing more than spat over a toy.
"If, though, you handle this like a human, you'll become part of a team. Most humans go into battling werewolves as part of a team that's actually doing battle or going to war against something that has very deadly odds. You work with someone that can have your back.
"If you learned anything today, you should have learned that other people had something to do with your survival. So--if you fight as part of a team rather than doing it on your own, your strength and your intelligence becomes multiplied with every person that's added to your team. I'm not saying you should be a lesser part, but I am saying you should be willing to team up with everyone else here rather than feeling that its your job and yours alone to defeat him for the whole wizarding world. No one expects that of you but you."
Meanwhile, Angus and Kate and Michael were opening the house and making it ready for them. Michael fed the cats, his dogs, and Archangel.
"You lot need to have one person from each household go look in the basement storeroom to see if we have the personal items you need. There are some changes of clothes there, but you will probably want to wash them to freshen them and perhaps alter the sizes so they fit," Kate said. "Get nightclothes for yourselves and the kids and a couple changes of clothes. The kids need to be in bed soon. We can look at this tomorrow and see if we need to buy more of anything."
Then Michael went over to Khaat and sat down on the coffee table so he could face her.
"You should go to bed early tonight and get some rest," Michael said to her gently. She shook her head. "No, now, listen," he said. "If you stop to think, you know exactly where he is and what he's doing. He's at the estate. He's checking on Escobar to make sure that lovesick vampire is still alive." She looked at Michael questioningly. "You know I'm right," he said. "And, if I know that boy like I think I do, he's going to ask Escobar to team up with him to find out how the heck James got into the house. Once he gets that answer, he'll be here. And I bet he'll have that walking bloodbank with him when he comes."
