happiness begins with one step at a time

It was a cloudy Saturday morning as Sarah Jessica Nesbitt walked down the Entrance Hall corridor heading out towards the edge of the forest. Yes, people were usually were either at Hogsmeade but Sarah wasn't in the mood to go and not to mention the Gryffindor Common room was to noisy for her taste. Pushing the door Entrance hall door opened she felt the cool breeze hit her face and she sighed. Walking down the sloping lawns of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardly she headed towards the CoMC paddock. After a few minutes she reached the edge of the forest and smiled waiting for the unicorns to come out.

Morning and night were the best time to see them, for it was the coolest part of the day for them to be out. Taking a apple out of her bookbag she placed it on the ground and waited quietly and patiently for them to come. As a female unicorn with her baby came out of the forest she smiled as she seen them sniff the apple before eating it. Alexia couldn't believe that so many kill unicorns, there so pretty and unique creatures. But so many want power now days that they'll do anything to get it including killing these amazing creatures.

As they came out one by one Sarah smiled weakly to herself but kept quiet until they noticed her present. As the female unicorn came towards her Sarah petted it and gotten another apple out feeding it to her out of her hand. This was something Sarah did every morning and night for she loved Unicorns. It reminded her of the day she finally found Zandell, she was doing the same thing at the same place when made her shake her head as tears came to her eyes. Knowing Zandell didn't want her to be sad she smiled weakly at the memories before petting the unicorn once again.

There was a certain chill to the wind as the looming grey clouds were above the head of Nick Potter. The soon to graduate Gryffindor was on his broom, looking peacefully at the clouds in the sky. The common room was noisy and hot. Nick just wanted some fresh air. Plus Nick had a difficult decision to make. Being up in the sky relaxed and calmed him. But peace only lasted so long. Nick got bored easily and decided to go back inside to put his broom away.

After putting his broom away he decided to go take a trip to see the Hipporgriffs. They were slowly becoming extinct for their feathers. Besides, Nick hadn't been there in a while anyway. But when he got there he noticed the Hipporgriffs weren't out, only the unicorns..... and Sarah. Nick slowly approached her and crouched down next to her, the unicorn she was feeding paid no attention to Nick whatsoever. "Hey." Nick said softly. He was still unsure of where they were as friends. "Did you know that unicorns are a gold colour when they're born through two years?" He asked interestingly.

Sarah looked up at Nick and gave him a weak smile. "Hey Nick."said Sarah softly as her emerald eyes looked from the unicorn to him. When he asked her a question about unicorn Sarah chuckled for she knew everything about unicorns they were her favorite magical creature. "Yes of course, there my favorite magical creature after all!"said Sarah softly. "I don't get why people kill these creatures, there so beautiful and unique but I guess people will do anything for power these days!"said Sarah sighing. "You know... I know them actually quite well now there used to me now."said Sarah smiling.

It was the first smile Sarah done in months and it wasn't a fake smile but a real true smile. Unicorns was something she loved and made her smile she guessed she just needed some company and some unicorns to do that. Sarah was getting alittle bit better, but she knew it'll be awhile intil she was completely healed if ever. Her emerald eyes looking at Nick she giggled as she seen that he was a bit away from her. "I don't bite I promise, and your not going to scare the unicorns."said Sarah chuckling.

Nick moved closer to Sarah and realized she was genuinely smiling. Hopefully it meant she was starting to move past what had happened to Zandell. "No you don't bite. But unicorns do!" Nick said jokingly. The unicorn in front of them glared at Nick, she didn't find it funny. "Maybe your parents will buy you one over the summer? They are going down in price and aren't that expensive. " Nick suggested. The female unicorn made a noise that was a mixture between a dog bark and a horse's neigh. "Unicorns don't like me I guess." He said softly. "So how are things going?" Nick asked.

Sarah giggled as the unicorn gave him a look that could kill. "I don't think she liked that!"said Sarah softly. Sarah shrugged. "Maybe, but having a unicorn in the middle of a muggle suburb wouldn't that look alittle weird to muggles?"Sarah asked him laughing. "Although I wouldn't mind having one, even one of these."said Sarah honestly. Sarah shook her head. "Unicorn have sensitive feelings, they don't like to be called names or anything."said Sarah softly. "Things are going good, I'm starting to get my life back on track but it's taking time."said Sarah honestly. "What about you."said Sarah softly as her emerald eyes sparkled happily as the mother unicorn nudged her as she petted it.

Nick smiled at Sarah. "You must really know a lot about unicorns. Maybe when you get older and live in a wizarding community you could have one? I live in a wizarding community so if I wanted, I could get one." He said softly. The unicorn in front of them finished its apple and walked away, but it was then Nick saw it had a thorn in its leg. He approached the unicorn and gently pulled it out. Then he casted a spell and bandages appeared over the cut. The unicorn looked at Nick with gratitude the ran away.

Nick walked back to Sarah. "I'm alright I guess." He said quietly. Then he wanted to say something. "I'm sorry if I crossed a line when I kissed you the other day." Nick said softly.

Sarah smiled. "Yeah I know quite a bit about them, I loved them ever since I was little, my room used to be filled with them and it still is!"said Sarah honestly. Sarah's eyes sparkled happily as he said he could get her one if he wanted to. "Nick if you could I'll love you forever, I always wanted a unicorn since I was little!"said Sarah as her emerald eyes sparkled at him happily. Sarah smiled when he pulled the thorn out and healed the unicorn. "That was sweet of you Nick, alot of people wouldn't do that."said Sarah honestly as a baby unicorn flew into her arms. Chuckling she petted it before it nudged her bag for another apple.

Chuckling Sarah opened her bag as the baby unicorn but it's head into it for the apple. Sarah shook her head at his comment. "No it was ok Nick, I guess I shouldn't had run away from you."said Sarah softly. "I guess I was just confused at the time, I didn't think I could have feelings for someone this early!"said Sarah softly.

Nick looked down and began to blush. Did she just say she liked him? Or maybe he heard her wrong? But if he understood her right, then she liked him. "So you have feelings for me? I ummm. That's great!" He said shyly. He petted the golden baby unicorn, then he put his hand on Sarah's. "So what's your family like? I know your adopted and Sam's your brother, but other than that I don't know much. I never had parents. My mom died giving birth to me and my dad hung himself soon after. My older sister took care of me." He explained. He looked back up at her and watched he handle the baby unicorn.

Sarah nodded. "Yes I have feelings for you Nick, I just didn't realize it until you kissed me."said Sarah shyly. Sarah's emerald eyes looked into his and smiled when he asked her about her family. "Aw... I'm sorry Nick, my real parents died in a car crash last summer so I know how you feel."said Sarah softly. "But now I have a brother and a family that loves me and I couldn't be happier, I don't feel like I'm adopted by them I feel like I'm part of the family that they already had!"said Sarah softly. "Although I heard my parents talking about adopting another boy so I'll be having two brothers soon!"said Sarah happily.

"Maybe we could go on a date?" Nick asked shyly.

Nick wasn't afraid of telling a girl he liked her, he was afraid of the response he would get. But this time it was good. Most girls didn't take Nick seriously, or thought he was just kidding. Nick was happy Sarah liked him back. It was a great feeling to know someone cared for him. It made him feel warm inside and happy.

"Your parents must love children a lot!" Nick exclaimed. He never knew anybody who adopted children, it was nice to know some people were nice enough to take other children into their family.
