"We've all gotten distracted in battle at one time or another," Brian said, unwilling to divide his focus from Kate by letting himself think about Jack's actions. This was one of those times when things just didn't work right.
He continued to work on the internal bleeding. It was the source of the lifethreatening issue she had. He was starting to be aware of little hairline fractures, but nothing blatant. "She should have been crushed," Brian said quietly. He felt the bleeding start to slow. "This isn't going to give in to me that easily. This might take a bit," he told Jess. Downstairs, Robert was first concerned about Khaat's massive bleeding. Edward joined him and began to help as his limited skills allowed. Her shoulder was the worst of it. Robert was more concerned about that than anything else.
"Robert," Edward said quietly. "Her face is going to be badly scarred."
"The hell it is," Robert said defiantly. "You're not going to see she was ever touched when I finish with it."
"No one is capable of that," Edward said, looking at her hideously damaged face.
"Then watch and learn," Robert said, only becoming more determined. His determination was starting to turn to uncharacteristic anger. He wanted every one of this pack dead, and he wanted the beast for himself.
