What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Lesson 2! - Page 2 Empty Re: Lesson 2!

Post by Derry Flanagan Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:52 pm

Derry was sitting at the back of the class, in his regular seat. He was restlessly munching on candy, while playing drums on his lap, looking like some extremely hyper kid - which he was. He noticed a pretty, but deathly pale girl take a seat just in front of him. Derry stared at her, slightly concerned, wondering if she was sick.

Reluctantly stopping his drums rehearsal and shoving his candy bag back in his pocket, he leaned over to speak to her. "Hey, hey! You okay? You look..uh..sick or something." His eyebrows forming a concerned "V" over his eyes, he added, "Do you need something? Do you need to go to the hospital wing?"

Lesson 2! - Page 2 Empty Re: Lesson 2!

Post by Marguerite de Lancret Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:20 am

Marguerite had been ignoring the fidgeting noises which had been procuring from behind her, that is until those noises became a voice directed at her. Marguerite turned slowly, and was instantly assailed with the tantalizing scent emanating from the boy. Her mouth instantly began to water, and she was forced to close her eyes and clench her fists in her lap until some self-control could be regained. After a few moments of deep breaths, where she attempted to get her body used to breathing in the scent, Marguerite's eyes fluttered open.

"Sick?" she echoed softly, keeping her piercing eyes fixed upon the boy's, "No, I am not sick."

She knew very well the reason the boy assumed her to be sick, but it was so much more fun to play and weedle the moment out before coming out with the truth. She continued to regard the boy with solemn eyes, as an idea began to form within her head. His concern showed that he was empathetic towards the plights of others. He was likely the type who was helpful and could easily be manipulated. The fact he was adorned with a Hufflepuff badge on his robes added some cement to this theory. She was getting quite bored with the "food" provided for vampires at this castle. It would be nice to obtain herself a 'Donor.' Perhaps this boy could be the first.

After those moments as the thoughts raced through her head, Marguerite batted her eyes provocatively at the boy, then smiled; her fangs visible.

"Uhh...no?" Derry asked uncertainly. "You sure look sick," he said, no notion of tact existing in this boy's mind. He smiled back at her weakly, unsure of how to follow up with the conversation. She certainly didn't talk much, acting all mysterious-like, but Derry figured it was because she was shy. "So, what's with your face? You're all white, you look like a ghost," he said, his eyes widening as he pronounced that last word.

"Maybe you're just hungry," he said, jamming his hand in his pocket to retrieve his half-empty bag of candy. "Here!" he said, shoving the bag in the girl's face. "Well..yeah, it's just sugar. But it might help you get through class, you know?" He smiled back broadly at her, hoping to help the girl out - who he still decided was sick, regardless of what she said. Despite her palor, Derry thought she looked sweet and pretty as she smiled at him - somehow he completely failed to see her fangs.

Marguerite's eyes widened and she giggled softly as the boy continued to fumble over himself. He had obviously completely missed her fangs when she smiled. Her chest gave a violent pang as she was confronted with the bag of sweets. Sugar had a tendency to make her ill, as it did not mix well with her digestive system devoted to blood; however, she figured she may be safe with a small lolli.

Her fingers held in the delicate angles taught to her by her mother long ago during her training as a Contessa, Marguerite dipped her hand into the bag and produced a small strawberry-flavored lolli. A small smile spread across Marguerite's face at her luck. Strawberry was her favorite flavor.

"My favorite," she murmured as she unwrapped the lolli and licked it with the tip of her tongue, her eyes never leaving the Hufflepuff boy's.

Marguerite extended her other hand, cupped palm down for the boy to take.

"I am Marguerite," she said, still looking at the boy over the back of her hand, lolli held in her mouth.

Lesson 2! - Page 2 Empty Re: Lesson 2!

Post by Kingsley Shacklebolt Tue Nov 20, 2012 5:37 pm

(OOC: Deadpool!! D: )

Kingsley walked around the class as it slowly filled up. The first two were Macmillan and Longbottom, both good students, although their little trip into the forbidden forest had given him a bit of a shock, and them a detention. Soon, more students came in, mostly Gryffindor's and hufflepuff's, but he did notice de Lancet. Kingsley had always been quite wary of vampires, ever since his first encounter with Ne'os, and he would definitely keep an eye out on that one.

"Miss Summers, surely you have better reading material than that?" he said, as he passed Avis, who was reading some muggle picture book. Turning away, Kingsley decided to start the lesson since the noise level was increasing. Once the students started talking they never stopped. "Quiet down," he said, as he waved his wand at the board, where the chalk started writing.

"Conjuration, and Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration."

"Conjuration." Kingsley began, walking back to the front of the classroom. "Is probably the most useful branch of Transfiguration." Flicking his wand, the curtains closed, and then dozens of candles appeared out of nowhere. "So quickly, can someone explain to me what conjuration is exactly?"

Before the professor began to announce the start of class, Marguerite had slid smoothly from her seat and into a seat next to Derry. It would make it easier to pass notes if note-passing was needed. Marguerite wasn't sure yet whether she'd risk it or not.

"Conjuration is the art of making objects appear out of thin air," Marguerite replied smoothly, "I realize that food cannot be conjured, but I am not certain whether or not it is the only thing that cannot be conjured."

Marguerite folded her hands together over the table top, and watched the Professor intently. It was exciting to be learning new things. It had been so long since she was immersed within a world where everything was strange and new.

Lesson 2! - Page 2 Empty Re: Lesson 2!

Post by Kingsley Shacklebolt Tue Nov 20, 2012 9:16 pm

"Correct, ten points for Slytherin" Kingsley said, pleased with the quick answer. "Or, to be more precise, Conjuration is bringing things into being. It is the opposite of vanishment, which you will learn another day."

"You can conjure almost anything, and it's quite impossible to tell you all the incantations, so instead we focus on what you can't conjure. That's where Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration comes in. Hesper Gamp states that there are Five Principle Exceptions to conjuration, and obviously if you can't conjure something you can't transform it either."

"One of these, as Miss de Lancret said, is food." That was by far the most common one, but Shacklebolt decided to give a demonstration anyway. Waving his wand, he made an apple appear in front of everyone in the room. He then took a bite out of his and continued. "You can of course, create something that looks like food, like these apples for instance, but take a bite out of it and you will notice something strange. It has no taste, and it certainly does not satisfy any hunger." Throwing the apple away, Kingsley continued. "So... can anyone guess the second exception?"

Lesson 2! - Page 2 Empty Re: Lesson 2!

Derry grinned happily, satisfied that the sick girl had taken a lollipop. When she presented her cupped hand to him, Derry squeezed it in a vigorous handshake. "I'm Derry! Nice to meet you, Marguerite!"

Before Derry had a chance to say anymore, the Professor walked in and asked the class for silence. He saw Marguerite slip into a seat next to him and figuring she wanted to be friends, he smiled kindly at her.

Marguerite beat him to the first answer, but as soon as the Professor asked the second question, Derry's hand rose instantly. He was certainly not the brightest nor the most knowledgeable student, but Derry liked to talk. A class without him raising his hand a single time would be nothing short of torture: He was a restless kid and needed constant action - or else he'd go nuts. As such, Derry - having no idea of the answer to the question - opened his mouth all the same.

" 'Morning Professor! I've only ever heard of food being the exception, but if I was to make a guess, I would think that another exception would be conjuring a human being? I think I heard of conjuring snakes, so I'm guessing all animals are possible. Maybe not magical animals though?"

Derry put down his hand. He grinned at Marguerite as he wondered if the lollipop had helped at all. She still looked terrible and Derry considered throwing her another strawberry lollipop. But since he had just talked in front of the class, he figured he should probably wait until less attention was focused in his direction.

Lesson 2! - Page 2 Empty Re: Lesson 2!

Post by Anabelle Mulciber Wed Nov 21, 2012 1:53 am

This was why classes almost always urked her now. You always had to be there at a certain time or else you'd get in trouble. Unless you have a good excuse, which sometimes aren't even good for the professors. She just hoped that being in the Hospital Wing would be a good enough excuse for Headmaster Shacklebolt. She sighed softly and clenched and unclenched her left hand that she had cut just the day before.

Her hand felt odd now that it was healed, but it was better to have it that way than the way it was before. She approached the Transfiguration classroom and walked in cautiously, stopping a few steps after she entered the door, watching the Headmaster as he spoke to the rest of the class.

She walked up to him shortly after and said, "I'm sorry for being late Headmaster. I was at the Hospital Wing." Hitame played slightly with a strand of hair that was covering a cut on her neck that hadn't been healed, because she had refused to show the nurse where it was. She moved toward the back of the room, sitting next to her housemate Cecilie. "Hey CeCe, what'd I miss so far?"

Kingsley, who had heard about Hitame's injury, nodded. "That's fine Miss Higurashi, I hope you are feeling better," he said understandingly. He was quite surprised she had shown up actually. He turned to Derry Flanagan, a rather cheerful one, who attempted to answer the question.

"Good enough," Kingsley replied, giving the Hufflepuff 5 points. "Although, not completely accurate. You have stated part of two laws actually."

"A better way of putting the second Law is that you cannot create life. Any life, actually. While we are able to create a few animals..." Kingsley waved his wand and used the avis spells to conjure birds, which flew around the students and then suddenly vanished in a puff of smoke as he gave his wand another twirl. "These animal's are not actually... alive."

"The third rule is that you can't cast anything beyond a specific level of complexity, a human being for example. While there are certain spells that help you create animals, there hasn't been one that let's us conjure a human yet. A good thing really, imagine if every other person was able to create their own imaginary friend, society would fall apart!"

Seeing his attempt at humor fall short, Kingsley quickly continued with the lesson. "So that's the second and third. Can anyone guess the others?"
