Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Charms Lesson 1 - Page 2 Empty Re: Charms Lesson 1

Milo smirked at the first boy. "Transfiguration spells are good, but perhaps Shacklebolt would like that a bit more. Mr Textbook Huffer told us the difference between charms and transfiguration I believe. 'A charm adds or changes properties of something; it alters what the object does as opposed to what the object is.' Try again-" he glanced at his roster. "Brian?"

Charms Lesson 1 - Page 2 Empty Re: Charms Lesson 1

Post by Brian Sullivan Tue Aug 21, 2012 6:53 pm

Brian half expected the professor to get a little upset at all of the birds now flying around the classroom, but he did nothing but correct him and tell him he had used the incorrect charm. Brian shrugged and figured if he could get away with it and still continue on and do another charm, then what the hell, he would. He went back to his original plan now and picked out a boring spell.

Brian then decided he would show off a variety of spells and prove to the professor that he was pretty decent at charms. He looked for something flammable, another pillow would do, and he moved it to a safer area. He pointed his wand at the pillow and said "Incendio!" The pillow instantly lit up in flames, albeit a little more than he had anticipated, but he would not be deterred. After it crackled for a bit, he muttered another incanation "Glacius!" The flames froze the way they were on the pillow and Brian smiled at how cool they had frozen.

"Good enough for you then, Professor?"

Cliff had just had a dance party, and won Gryffindor points. This was officially his new favorite class. He had been given an assignment now, however, and he had to carefully think of what he was going to do. He could do a Summoning or Banishing charm, surely, but his summoning had always been much worse than his banishing. He quickly gathered some pillows and went back to his table, waiting.

Milo reached him and he set out the pillows. "Depulso! Depulso! Depulso! Depulso!" The four pillows flew back into the cabinet, though the last nicked the cabinet door and only half entered its confines. He grinned apologetically. "Three out of four is still an Acceptable, I'd say."

Charms Lesson 1 - Page 2 Empty Re: Charms Lesson 1

Post by Aidan Willson Tue Aug 21, 2012 7:47 pm

Aidan was practising the wand movement that the Professor had just taught him. Swish and flick, swish and flick. He thought he'd gotten it down now. He then started to add the incantation to it.

"Wingardium leviosa." Aidan said, hopeful. The feather lay on the desk, as if nothing had happened. "Wingardium leviosa!" He repeated, again, with no response from the feather.

"Wingardium leviosa!" Aidan raised his voice slightly, a bit annoyed. The feather seemed to jump off the table, then promtly fall back down again. Well, that was kind of some sort of progress, he told himself. He kept repeating the spell again and again. It jumped a couple more times, but mostly seemed to just stay on the desk. "Bloody feather..." he muttered under his breath, after more repeated attempts, each followed by failure to do anything to the damned feather. He'd spent at least fifteen minutes on this spell by now.

"Wingardium leviosa!" He tried once more. The feather jumped up, and even flew up a few inches, before deciding it had had enough and fell back to the desk. Ecstatic and it at least kind of working, he looked around to see if the Professor had seen it.

Teddy waited for Milo to approach her and she shrugged at him. "I dunno what to use for this. So I hope you don't mind-" she looked around and spotted a first year in her House (LOOKING AT YOU AIDEN) and took careful aim. She cleared her throat and carefully sent a Cheering Charm his way. She looked back at the professor and shrugged, not sure what better she could have done than cast a charm on an unsuspecting first year. That was the sure way to impress a professor.

OOC: Feel free to dodge it Aiden, but if he gets hit, it'll just cause him to be overly happy. Milo can fix it afterwards.

Just as Aidan looked up to see if the Professor had seen his small, yet still accurate, amount of levitation. Suddenly, he felt this feeling overwhelm him, his mouth forming into an instant smile. That was odd, since he wasn't even sure if the Professor had seen his charm. He then started happily humming to himself, for no apparent reason. He seemed to have forgotten all about the charm now. He was just thinking happy thoughts, like of his parents. He missed them, but was so happy to be at Hogwarts. He liked Hogwarts. Magic was good. Everything was good, he thought absent mindedly.

Charms Lesson 1 - Page 2 Empty Re: Charms Lesson 1

Post by Risé Lehmberg Tue Aug 21, 2012 10:53 pm

Risé had no idea what was going on. The professor had entered with a bang, and caused a commotion, people were shouting, laughing, one guy had even gotten up and started to break dance. And all she could do was sit there in total shock while it all went down. People kept talking and babbling and it was absolutely the most confusing class she had ever been in. Finally thought it started to settle down as he went around the room and people were supposed to show him a charm they knew.

Well Risé could do that couldn't she? She went over to a small cage of mice and picked out the one that had the most noise to it, one that squeaked loudly without even being afraid. She picked it up and brought it back to her desk. Holding the creature carefully between her fingers so that it didn't get scared and try to get away. When the teacher came around to her, she nodded once to him, held out her wand, and with a short jab at the mouse said "Silencio!" The mouse went completely silent, though continued to move in the same manner as before, if they had been able to hear it, they would have, but her charm worked well. She looked up at him, and grinned, watching him move onto the next student.

Charms Lesson 1 - Page 2 Empty Re: Charms Lesson 1

Post by Alexander Jones Tue Aug 21, 2012 11:39 pm

Alex looked as the professor had asked him what he had meant, "Well.. It means that, a charm can change the form of something, what it does, or why it exists. I think..." Alex said, all he really did was study, he didn't really care as long as he got good grades. Then the professor had assigned them an assignment. He took out his wand, and looked as the professor came to him.

"Alright, let's try this." Alex popped his knuckles as the professor came closer. He pointed at a parchment on the table, "Accio." And it moved a bit. Alex sighed, and put all his focus, "Accio." Then the parchment came, "This is fun! Accio! Accio! Accio! Accio!" He had summoned another parchment, a book, old sickle from the ground, and a old shoe. Then he looked over a cute Ravenclaw girl he had seen, he kept his wand down, but in a flirty voice he said, "Accio." He smiled. What he had said, wouldn't really summon the girl.

Teddy had finished, so she sat on her desk, watching the chaos and pandemonium around her, enjoying the sights of her peers tripping over themselves to look cool to this new professor. She wrapped her arms around her knees and allowed her head to move as she watched the crowded room.

She watched the boy Milo was now attending to and suddenly realized he was trying to 'accio' her. She blushed slightly, which made her more angry. Had she not reacted so, she might have teased back by saying 'protego' but now she was embarrassed. "Rictusempra!" she said, pointing straight at him, sending a tickling charm his way.

Milo shook his head at the boy. "Not form- that's Transfiguration. What it does, not why it is. We leave that to the gods." He smirked. "Nice try though.I'll give you a pity point for the definition." Milo might be a bit irresponsible with points, but not enough to give them to someone who had not answered the question.

He went through, watching the progress of the students with glee. How fun it all was! One girl seemed to have a penchant for directing charms, and he quickly produced the countercharm for both. "Two spells. Ambitious."

"Alright then, who still needs to go?" he called out.
