Kingsley smiled slightly as Higurashi answered the question. She was almost right, but with one small mistake. "Good job, Miss Higurashi, you got three out of four correct. Ten points to Gryffindor. However, you missed out Transformation, the art of altering a body," he replied. As a demonstration, Shacklebolt, with a casual flick of his arm, transformed his chair into sofa. "And then, as you said, there is vanishment, making something go into non-being." Here, Kingsley made the table infront of him disappear. "Next is Conjuration, creating something out of nothing." Kingsley waved his wand, causing a fancier table to appear in front of him. "Lastly, untransfiguration." Kingsley concluded the demonstration by using untransfiguration to transform his sofa back into a chair.
"Today we will cover the basics of Transformation. This lesson, and indeed the whole course, will be mostly practical. Unlike Charms, each branch of Transfiguration has only one main spell, so we won't have to waste our time memorizing thousands of spells. It will all depend on your creativity. Most transformation's can be performed with just one simple spell, can anyone tell me what this is?"
(Hint, you may want to check a certain Spell compendium)
Once the answer was given, Kingsley waved his wand to conjure a small metal ball and a plain and large metal box in front of every student. "Your assignment in this lesson is to use transformation, and only transformation, to somehow open the metal box and bring me the toy Pygmy Puff inside. You can transfigure both objects, though it will be far more difficult to transfigure the box. I would suggest to transfigure the ball into something that will help you open the safe, but you are free to try anything."
