Jess nodded each student in, watching as they took their seats and noticing just how haggard they all looked. The headmistress had made a good call in altering the curriculum for the next few lessons - he just hoped that he would be up to the task.
He looked up, however, as his train of thought was interrupted by a Ravenclaw boy asking a question. "Oh," Jess replied, a little caught off by what the boy was asking. "Umm," he muttered, his brow furrowing as he thought about his answer.
"Not today," he said after a pause. "I'm not sure what the Headmistress would think if I told you all how to make your own spells, at least not today. I shall ask her though - you're right we do need a break from the practical magical work," he agreed, pulling a quill and parchment out of his pocket and jotting down a note to do exactly that.
"In the meantime, we will be taking a slight deviation from the usual schoolwork to... umm.... to get back in touch with a more practical side of things." He explained, pleased that he couldn't go red in the face, as he was incredibly embarrassed about having to teach this garbage to the students.
"Today we'll be learning how to make fire... the muggle way," he told them, gesturing at the pile of sticks and other dry material behind him on his desk. "I know that some of you probably have an idea of how this is done, but can anyone tell me why it would be worthwhile knowing?" He asked, hoping to god that some smart arse pureblood fanatic wasn't in the room.
Oh wait, there was a Dolohov sitting in front of him. So much for his hopes
