Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Zara:
Ah, now I see what you're getting at. If they choose to join a post which was initiated by someone with a long post length, who wants all the interaction to be with their character, then yes, the post lengths should be matched, that is being polite, I will agree.

However, the type of open RP I was trying to promote was mass open topics, with no central character, but instead just a central event/place, e.g. a common room or personal house, or just a topic made, which is intended to be like that. In that type of topic, I think a person should be able to post at whatever they want, when joining someone else's topic though and they want long posts, yes, matching post lengths should be done.

Your next bit, you’re wrong, I’m not asking you to change, I’m encouraging, but I don’t expect people to change, You on the other hand are bullying people into changing by saying that they need to match your big long posts. By short stories, I was implying your big long posts Smile

And that’s why it’s my character, not yours, if I’m that person not posting long posts, there may be a story behind it what’s happening, but it’s my character, and I want to leave that story left untold. That’s my choice, not yours, sorry if that’s blunt, but it’s how I see it.

I can understand the preference in long posts, but i can also empathise with the “I don’t have time to post all those words, or the patience” arguments of things. It’s just my choice though, it’s all I’m saying, I don’t have an intolerance for long posts, I like reading other people’s, and I like posting them when I feel like such a post is required, but if i don’t want to. I won’t.

Vincent:
I think you hit the nail on the head on multiple characters, though Khaat is right, we don't approve unless we think you're able to maintain it. I personally, am in the same boat, I have about 4 characters, 3 of which are really well developed, one of which I keep sitting on the sidelines, that's all I want, because I like my characters, and I can, on most days, get the three of them out there and posting. Also, we're not proposing a word cap, god no, people can post long if they like, I just encourage a higher quantity of shorter posts than 3 or 4 long a day.

And yes, this is also aimed at putting an end to closed RPing, I hate it, tbh, because I come from a place where communities are really strong, I like PA to be like that too.

Khaat, I back up pretty much everything you said there, wont bother replying to you, we've had this conversation a few too many times on MSN to be bothered.

And Xem, yes, don't criticise other members, lots of people do long posts, occasionally some may seem meaningless to you, but to the writer I'm sure every word has what it needs to make them happy, and has meaning to the other people. So don't diss others, or be prepared for consequences, whether they be legislative ones, or social ones.

I think that's all Smile

Oh, you're all being more active, good job, the stats are making me smile.

And finally, if you notice that someone hasn't been online in awhile, send them an email, ask them to come back, I think you'll find that all they want is someone like you to RP with Smile
