Um I'm not really sure what to do.

Ash had made her way up to St. Mungo's after making an appointment. She really wasn't quite sure what to do with herself, but she knew she had been sick and had skipped a period so this really wasn't something to play around with. Of course she had never really had to go to the doctor for anything that was feminine related and that also made her nervous. She hadn't been able to sleep the night before and then on top of that when she had tried to eat breakfast it just didn't want to settle down.

She found herself eating some saltines as she walked in the door and made her way up to the second floor to sign in. She hadn't told Varod where she was going because he would want to follow her and this was something she knew she needed to do by herself. Especially since telling her brother wasn't an option she had right now either. He would completely flip out on her and she wasn't sure she could handle that.

She made her way over to the ob/gyn clinic and signed in. The lady at the desk smiled politely at her but Ash couldn't help but think that the woman was forcing the smile as she made her way over to the waiting room to be called back.

Khaat sipped on her French Roast coffee, and read a stack of charts that gave her history on her morning's appointments. Her first appointment of the morning was a young Hogwarts student. She wasn't feleingg her best, and Khaat already had a pretty good idea what the problem was. All that really remained was to confirm it for her. Khaat always felt a bit bad for young students who got into this sort of mess. If she was right, this would change the direction this young woman had thought her life was going to go. She knew waht a biind it had put her own daughter in, and she hated to see anyone else have to walk that road. It certainly wasn't easy.

Khaat put her cup aside and picked up the first chart, asking her assistant to return the charts to the clinic. She went downstairs and knocked on the door lightly before going in.

"Good morning," Khaat smiled. "I'm Khaat Lupin. I understand from your chart here that you're having a hard time lately. Shall we find out exactly what's going on?"

Ash looked up as Khaat entered the room. She was nervously worrying away at her lip, but she forced a small smile on her face as she greeting the woman. "I'm Ash." she said unsure if she should hold out her hand to her or not. She rarely went to the doctor as a child and if she was right she'd be seeing a lot of doctors soon to come. She was hoping it wasn't what she thought but she'd be happy if it was.

She took a deep breath before she started to speak again, "Well I missed a period." she said all in one breath. "I've been getting really sick lately, just from the smell of things. I wasn't really sure what to do and I didn't have anyone to talk about it so I decided to come here." she added in a hurried voice.

She missed her mother in times like this because she knew her brother just wouldn't understand anything that she was going through. She started to worry at her lip but slightly less than when she had first come in the room. There was something about Khaat that she found calming...she didn't seem like a healer or a doctor at all to her.

"Well, first things first," Khaat said. She laid her hand on the young woman's forehead, her way of diagnosing. Most of Khaat's healing skills were a combination of her wandless magic and her seer's abilities in some weird combination. Her father's skills were the same way. Khaat had always figured she had inherited that from him.

Kiara appeared to be well. Well, relatively so. She didn't show signs of an illness. Khaat already knew what she was looking at, but she wanted to do one final test. "Well, I'd like to run a very simple test," Khaat said. She got a bottle of potion out of the cabinet and poured some into a test tube. She looked at Kiara. "Would you be so kind as to put a couple of your hairs into the tube, please? It will turn color and tell me what I want to know." Khaat already knew that when the hairs were added the potion in the vial and the vial was shaken that the potion was going to turn a bright emerald green. Kiara was pregnant, and Khaat's running the test was just a formality at this point. She did not expect, at all, that it would turn blue and show that she was not pregnant.

"Um ok." she said as Khaat laid her hands on her forehead. She wondered if she was actually trying to check her to see if she had a fever, and maybe she was. This was what Ash had gotten for never going to the doctor unless she was extremely ill. Then again, it wasn't exactly like she had the best role model raising her for a parent either.

"What kind of test?" she asked nervously as she plucked a few hairs from the top of her head wincing slightly at it. She placed them into the tube, being extremely careful not to knock it out of Khaat's hands, but she was shaking so much that she was scared of doing so. "Am I alright?" she asked looking at the woman curiously. She really wanted to know if she was just going crazy or if she was really sick or she didn't want to really think of the other one. She had been really lucky up until this point and hadn't even thought of anything like this happening to her, although most girls never think something like that could or would ever happen to them.

Khaat put a little cork in the top of the tube and shook it. It turned a beautiful emerald green. Khaat held it up to the light to analyze it.

"Well, you're not sick," Khaat said, looking through the clear green liquid. "But your life is about to change, significantly. By May or June, by the looks of it. It looks like you're about 4 weeks pregnant. You and the baby appear to be very healthy."

She tried to break the news gently, but some pieces of news were just not all that easy to break when it didn't appear that the patient had been really trying to become pregnant in the first place. She paused. Kiara needed to absorb that much before they went further. Just that much was a lot to absorb.

"Who do you have that will support you through this, Kiara?" Khaat asked. "Family? Friends?"

She took a deep breath and let it out slowly shaking her head. She wondered how she was going to tell her brother...and most importantly Varod. The good news was that she and the baby were both healthy was the way she was looking at it. She took several deep breaths and when Khaat asked her who she had as a support system she almost broke down in tears.

"I don't have parents and my brother and I are on the outs." she said looking at her, "I lost most of my friends when I dropped out last year so I'm at school pretty much alone, because the father is a drop out as well. He's pretty much the only one I have to help me with this." she said looking at her. "Is that bad?"

"It's not a matter of being bad," Khaat said. "Its more a matter of the fact that it will be more difficult. I can help you manage the symptoms with vitamins and with a potion to minimize the energy loss and nausea you're feeling right now. Most of that fatigue and nausea will pass after a couple more months. I can support you all I can, but you need more than just me and the father.

"We have a counselor here now, and I think he would be a great help to you. I think you're going to need someone to talk to over the next few months. And, yes, he's a dad too. I think you'll like him. Can I perhaps help you set up an appointment with him? Look at it this way--it never hurts to put more eggs in your basket. The more people you have to help you, the better."

She listened to Khaat and nodded. She wanted her to see a councilor. She thought only crazy people saw them. She didn't think she was crazy though at the worst of times she felt it because of who she was with...Only a crazy person would date a vampire wouldn't they. "I think it might be an alright idea to at least try. If I don't like him then I don't have to go anymore right?" she asked.

She was taking this all in stride very well...very well for someone who didn't have a support system to help here through it. "I do have a question.." she said looking at her, "The father...well...he's a vampire..will that effect the baby any?" she asked curiously. She had wondered how that would effect them having children but she knew it was better to prepare for the possibilities now rather than having no idea how to deal with them later if they a rose.

She wondered about taking the vitamins. She had never taken them a day in her life. She wondered if it would be some sort of potion or a giant horsepill that she would have to swallow at breakfast every morning. "What do I do about ...school?"

"You don't have to see a counselor at all, really," Khaat said, "But having a baby is a change that will affect you for the rest of your life, and when it happens unexpectedly, it is an even bigger change. It gives you a chance to really think through everything and to start to make some plans for yourself and your child. Kiara, everybody needs help now and then and needs somebody to talk to. This gives you someone to do all that with.

"As far as the vampire part, well, yeah, there is a possibility that your child you inherit that , but we won't know until the child gets here. There's just no way to know until then. However, be aware that the ministry does provide free supplies of blood for all vampires. Its a program we've had for several decades now, and any vampire can get the blood supplies they need here for free so that they don't have to go attack to feed. And, yes, we always make sure that the blood is very safe. If your child does turn out to be a vampire, it isn't the terrible sentence that muggles, for example, believe it to be.

"School? I suggest you continue going as you have been. We'll contact the Hogwarts infirmary so that they know, just in case you need them, but you can continue to do your follow up care here. There really should not be an issue. I can't promise it will be easy, but you need to continue being active and eating well so that your baby is healthy."
