Class 2 -NEWT

Keera watched expectantly as the students struggled to escape from
the plant. She wasn’t surprised when Arthur made it out of the devil’s
snare, nor was she when the other Gryffindor, Sophia, made her esc-
ape; she had expected most of the students to use that spell to make
their escape, and she had already concluded that these particular Gry-
ffindors were know-it-alls, so her face didn’t show any disappointment,
though she truly was. Keera wanted to see a student use some other
means to escape the vines; something unique that wouldn’t be suggest-
ed in the books. “Five points off…” she muttered, turning her eyes back
to Mariana.

A loud bang sounded, and Keera’s eyes went wide. “Well done! Not a
single incantation uttered and you still managed to make your escape!”
she exclaimed, clapping her hands together once. She still wasn’t entir-
ely pleased with the students’ performance, but Mariana had managed
to – at the least – surprise Keera.

Keera turned around to face whoever was speaking to her. At first, she
was extremely irritated, but something about the way the young man ca-
rried himself made her curious. “You want to go in alone do you? Wond-
erful! Show me what it is that makes you so unafraid,” Keera replied gest-
uring in the direction of the large plant. She lifted her hand and twitched it
to the left. There was a faint pop and the students that hadn’t yet escaped
from the devil’s snare were free. “Go ahead, kid,” she encouraged, smirking.

“No, you did it right, Arthur but that’s where you went wrong,” Keera replied calmly
now, staring at the boy for only a brief moment. “The points were not deducted un-
fairly because I said I would only reward those who were able to escape… skillfully.
It takes no special skill to yell out a spell that you read from dusty books in a library,”
she continued, smirking now. She laughed at Mariana’s comment and took a few ste-
ps toward her, “Could I perhaps, speak to you after class?” Keera asked, not being
nearly as specific as need for her request to make any sense.

Keera couldn’t stifle her laughter as Arthur protested; he was very well-
spoken for his age, and he did have a good point, though Keera could not
see that ‘good point’, all she paid attention to was his joke and the fact that
she was being argued against. “That would be rather amusing to watch,
wouldn’t it?” she asked and stepped towards the student. “Do you truly w-
ant to know what it is that I am doing here; what the point is of this lesson?
I wish not the teach you kids of the different uses of plants or anything of
that matter, I am trying to figure out which of you possess great power, &
which of you don’t- but I see I was wrong in assuming that there were only
two categories into which you could be sorted; I have clearly forgotten to
include wit and bravery,” Keera crossed her arms over her chest and grin-
ned at him. “I wonder how many of those books I mentioned you had to re-
ad to become what you are now. Let me ask you this, can you apply what
it is that you have learned from those books or is it just a bunch of jumbled
information in your head?”


You are going to blow it, Keera’s mind screamed at her, but all she could
do was smirk and laugh inwardly at her own mind; she was already so very
tired of her plan, and she suddenly found herself wondering how spies ma-
naged to stay undercover for so long. Keera raised her hand and moved it to
the left, and with a faint pop, a textbook appeared in that same hand. “Can
you tell me of what use this textbook is, kid? Are the words printed on its pa-
ges really as important as the author intended them to be? Did you expect me
to read you words from this book when you stepped inside this greenhouse?
I’m sorry to say, I will not be teaching any of our future lessons that way,”
she said, handing the boy the book.
