NEWT class 1

Vincent Majere walked into his classroom at the 7th floor, having walked up from 6th floor. It wasn't very far, but he was rather tired, he sat down at his chair and put his papers in front of him. He waited for the people from his NEWT class to show up.

Scorpius had a way longer walk. From the dungeons to the 7th floor. He set off early to make a good impression on the new headmaster. His father had told him to get on the new headmasters good side and so Scorpius left the common room 30 minutes early for Alchemy and arrived there earlier than he had thought. "Good Morning professor!" he said, taking a seat on the front.

"Welcome Mr.Malfoy," Vincent said, rather surprised at Malfoy coming early, he hadn't thought of him as a good student, but it seemed like he was trying to make a good impression.

Slytherin - 15 points

Amadora hadn't planned on signing up for Alchemy. She hadn't planned on doing much at all seeing as classes were more or less a no go zone considering what she was prone of doing and was would commonly happen to her. She'd learned not to go outside when at home in that freezing house at Spinner's End and she'd also learned not to go anywhere a mass amount of people were seeing as she could draw more attention to herself if anything went drastically wrong.

Dora wasn't feeling great today but once she opened the door to the classroom she felt refreshed. It was as if she'd passed through one of the mini-waterfalls that surrounded a small lake in the middle of a forest on a hot summers day and one was foolish enough to swim through them and explore what was beneath the surface of the water. She knew she could face the day better now. Perhaps she'd suffer for her confidence later but for now, she would bask in it.

"Good morning Headmaster." Dora smiled as she took her seat. "I hope you are well."
It was her customary greeting as ever before settling down and getting her work done but for once she meant it and was genuinely interested in what her new Headmaster had to offer and teach. He seemed kind enough - tough but fair as her father used say.

"Good morning Miss Lunel," Vincent replied quietly, looking up as the next student arrived. This one was a ravenclaw, a house he expecially favored, as he had been a Ravenclaw himself. "Let us wait just a while longer for the other students to arrive."

Lily walked through the halls. She was the smallest bit lost. Okay, a lot lost. She had no idea where she was, and wandered upon the Alchemy classroom completely by luck. "Hello Professer Majere. Sorry if I'm late." Lily hurried to a seat in the front.

Why was everyone apologizing for being late today? Expecially when they weren't? Couldn't they see class hadn't even started? Vincent was confused, however, as the new student entered, he stood up, ready to start the class, albeit a bit early. Only one student hadn't arrived, a good turn up. Vincent flicked his wand at the board, so the chalk automatically wrote on the board.
INTRODUCTION TO ALCHEMY
"Welcome to Alchemy class students," he said. "In this class, you will learn the transmutation of simple objects into the most valuable materials on the planet. You will learn the art of spiritual alchemy and creating elixers. We will then move on to studying the philosophers stone, a stone that can make any object into gold and give the user immortality," Vincent said, trying to impress the students. "But this is just the first class, so, I'd like to ask the question. What is the basic definition of Alchemy?"

Dora lifted her hand in the air and bit her lip hesitantly. She knew roughly what it meant but she could only make an assessment. She could remember her father trying to teach her a little when she was smaller but that was cut short quite harshly. Dora did seem to have a knack for it.

"Sir? Alchemy was the medieval predecessor of Chemistry. It was an early, unscientific form of the subject that sought to change base metals into gold. Those who used it also attempted to discover a life-prolonging elixir, a panacea and a universal solvent alkahest." she explained.

Vincent frowned, dissapointed slightly. But still, it was a typical answer from a person who thought that what was written in books was always correct. " A typical muggle answer, one that I expect that you have read from a muggle book, am I correct?" Vincent replied. "Muggles have tried to understand what Alchemy is, they have tried to practice it, but of course, you cannot use alchemy without magic. Chemistry is what they call the scientific form of Alchemy, though it resembles Potions a bit more. Nay, the basic meaning of Alchemy could have been described easily long ago, but the people bended and twisted its meaning so that it is hard to describe. In very basic meanings though, Alchemy is an art focused on the attempt to achieve wealth, life and wisdom."

Albus entered the class a bit late, he muttered an apology to his teacher then went and sat at a seat close to the front. He took his book out and started copying down what the teacher said immediately.
