((Professor, as I have just been accepted into Alchemy, I wish to pretend that I have been here since the beginning of the class. If you disagree with this, I will be more than happy to modify my post.))
Amelia sat near the front of the classroom today, the seats in the back already being taken before she arrived. Generally, Amelia preferred to sit in the back of the classroom, not because she was a poor student, but because it was much easier to avoid unwanted attention there. Amelia was the type of person who preferred to blend in with the scenery; no one asked many questions of a wallflower.
The professor had gotten the lesson off to a quick start, wasting no time dancing around the subject, which she approved of. Many of the professors she had encountered babied their students, coaxing them along in a way that in no way resembled the real world of magic. The recently appointed headmaster, however, took a much more direct approach, one Amelia approved of because she was a too-the-point person herself.
Amelia took in the exchange between the professor and a redheaded student she recognized from her house and form other NEWT level courses. The girl's answer was not entirely incorrect, but the professor was also not wrong to correct her. She did as she was told and copied down the definition provided by the headmaster, using the peacock feathered quill her father had given her, though she often used other, more dull quills to avoid the wandering eyes and speculation of her classmates.
As Amelia finished copying down his words, the professor posed another question to the class. After a few moments of hesitation by the room as a whole, Amelia raised her hand, lowering it only when given permission to speak.
"Transmutation is a way both magical and muggle - though to a less successful extent - alchemists turned less precious metals such as lead and tin into those of greater value, primarily gold, though silver and platinum were also considered," Amelia finished, her voice easily having filled the silent classroom.
