Amelia's head had seemed to be glued to her desk ever since the realization that the woman from the tea shop just so happened to be her professor. Despite the hustle and bustle of the classroom as it filled with students, Amelia's attention could not be drawn from attacking herself for being so unobservant. How had she missed the fact that the woman she was talking to was a professor?
In your defense, she is a new professor, Amelia’s subconscious soothed her, though it did not bring Amelia’s head back up to where it ought to be. Amelia did not make light of her own mistakes; she was overly hard on herself – a trait she learned from her parents – and although she knew that soon she would have to put up a façade and lift her head, she knew that this misstep on her part would be the subject of much analysis later on.
When Ms. Lupin called upon the class to quiet down, Amelia sighed, fogging up the surface of her desk with her breath before lifting her head and allowing her eyes to readjust to the light in the room. Professor Lupin – ahem, Khaat – was giving a brief overview of the class, nothing which would warrant taking notes, and so Amelia had little to do but listen.
She finished her introduction with a call to the students to introduce themselves. Unsurprisingly, most of the classroom remained quiet, looking awkwardly at one another to see who would be the volunteer. Personally, Amelia was surprised that Arthur-the-Perfect hadn’t raised his hand already, but indeed the classroom remained oddly still, as if testing Khaat’s patience intentionally.
After a brief inner battle with herself – she needed to make up ground with Khaat for her earlier stupidity, but she didn’t like the idea of drawing attention to herself – Amelia swallowed hard and raised her hand tentatively, lowering it only when she had received permission to speak.
“Amelia Lyons. I expect to become proficient in upper level spells and to receive quality instruction in a subject applicable to everyday life. My favorite charm is Fidelius,” she finished, all her answers to-the-point.
