N.E.W.T Class - Lesson 1, Winter Term

Robert expected great things from the Sixth and Seventh years. They were N.E.W.T students now and there were a lot of burdens sitting on their shoulders. He wanted them to work hard and pass their tests but also enjoy History of Magic. He knew that if he was in their position and if someone told him he'd be the Professor teaching History of Magic in ten years time then he would certainly look at them incredulously. However, he knew he could make this fun.

Once Rob had set out the orbs that would play battles and famous meetings of factions in the First Wizarding War, he flicked his wand at the board and left the chalk to write. He opened up the door for the students to come in and walked back to his desk. He glanced back at the board and smiled momentarily. He knew he didn't need to waste time with the N.E.W.T students. He wanted to jump in with things right away. Perhaps it was a bit heavy to start of a new term with but they needed to no what happened and hopefully if he was lucky he could start up a debate between students.

Death Eaters & The Order of the Phoenix

Scorpius walked up to the third floor for his first class of the term, History of Magic. He didn't exactly like the subject, who cared about history anyway? But his dad was forcing him, he said it was important. Oh well. Scorpius entered the class and took a seat at the front. "Good Morning Professor," he said.

The first student was a Slytherin and it was a breath of fresh air for Robert. He was surprised that it wasn't a Ravenclaw if he was honest but then again, no one seemed interested in History of Magic any more. He didn't blame them, it wasn't particularly exciting if the teacher was a Binns replay. He didn't want to become that because the most shocking thing was that the ghost didn't stop his lectures even when classes had ended - something he discovered in his second year or so.

Robert walked over to one of the orbs on its stand and tapped it a few times, bringing a shot of the First Order of the Phoenix back into focus. He smiled at the Slytherin and took care to note down the points received.

"Hey. G'morning to you to. Have a good Christmas?" Rob asked in interest as he tapped another orb that didn't seem to want to work.

Arthur entered the classroom and took a seat in the front row. Another change... even more interesting., he thought. ''Good morning, professor. What happened to your predecessor?'', he asked.

Albus went up to the history of magic office, to find that the history of magic teacher had been replaced. He had heard that Binns had retired a while ago, which was off in itself, why would a ghost want to retire after all? Anyways, Albus took his seat at the front and took his books out. "Good morning professor," he said rather quietly.

Three students. Robert thought ruefully. He had hoped that more students would pick History of Magic but it seemed they were more interested in pleasing the Headmaster by taking Alchemy than learning something worthwhile. He knew that if one was going to work for the Ministry than having History of Magic was pretty important if they were going to avoid the level idiocy people have managed to hit in the past. “Good morning Mr. Potter and Mr. Poe.” Robert greeted with a smile. “My predecessor found another calling to say the least.” he explained, tapping another orb that seemed to be on the fritz.

Rob called his wand to him from where he was stood with a twist of his wrist and the wand flew over to him. He flicked it at the board and the chalk lifted, waiting for him to dictate what he wanted to say. Robert walked around to the front of his desk and leaned on the front. He wasn’t fond of starting classes without a suitable number of people but he wanted to dive in. Three was enough for now. More would be along shortly he was sure.

“Eleven years the fighting made up the First Wizarding War. The conflict was also known as the Death Eater Rebellion or the Dark Rebellion which seems more fitting. I will not bore you with tales of a bad, bad man that decided he was better than those around him because that is just scraping at the surface of the History and getting tiny facts that barely resemble the truth. If you believe that I will leave you with that type of work then kindly leave this classroom now.” Robert said firmly. He paused before deciding to speak again. “The two main factions were, as you should know, the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix. Could someone give me five members of each faction, please? I am interested to know just how much you know about psychopaths and do-gooders.”

Scorpius was glad that they were learning this really, because his family had taken part in the first wizarding war. And the second. And the third. Oh well. At least he had good knowledge of all of this, his father had talked about it continuosly. Scorpius raised his hand then answered once given the permission. "At the time of the first Wizarding War, the heads of the two factions were You Know Who and Headmaster Dumbledore. Some others in the death eaters were Bellatrix Lestrange, Avery, Dolohov and Alectus and Amycus Carrow," Scorpius said, having known their names from the newspapers. He purposefully avoided mentioning any Malfoys. "And others in the Order were Kingsley Shacklebolt, Alastor Moody, Aberforth Dumbledore and Remus Lupin."

Daisy slipped into the classroom, trying not to make a big entrance. Too late, she had tripped over the chair leg. Brilliant start to the term. Really, well done. She made her way towards where the others were sitting. She saw a couple of Slytherins and another Gryffindor. All boys. So I'm the only girl in this class? Unless someone else is late. Even better. And it's a small class. That's more attention on me. Thoughts rushed through Daisy's head. She forced herself to shut them out and turned to face the Professor. "Sorry I'm late, sir." she apologized to him, annoyed at herself for making a bad first impression by being late and disrupting the class all in one go. She hoped she would at least know something about whatever today's lesson was. That was she might redeem herself, at least a little bit.

Julia hurried into the class, hoping that she wasn't late. She had just walked in when she noticed that there was only one other girl Greeeat She thought. She looked around and noticed Scorpius, the only person in the room she actually talked to. She waved to him and took a seat next to the other girl and took out her books. "I'm sorry I'm late, professor" She apologized.

''To add, some members... the Malfoys, the Crabbes, the Goyles, Stan Shunpike, the Lestrange brothers, as members of the Dark Army. They were rather notorious'', he said, pausing for a moment. ''Regarding the Order, we also have Sirius Black, the Potters, the Longbottoms, professor McGonagall, Pettigrew, a later traitor and of course, the legendary Severus Snape, one of the greatest wizards in history, who was, as we all know, a double agent, pretending to work for the Death Eaters, at one point. I assume that I have mentioned all of the major members.'', Arthur added.
