When Ruby asked if Angus was giving the baby back, he looked at her, frowning deeply, surprised at her question.
"Jesus, I'm not a kidnapper, Ruby," he said, not sure why she would even think for a moment that he had any intention of keeping this baby. Was that really what she thought of him? "I'm just playing a little hardball." He could see Suzanne talking to Tom, and she looked like she was rattled, trying to justify herself. Tom was clearly livid with her. Angus watched Tom shove Suzanne back towards the house, and she ran inside.
"Donohue," Tom called, holding up his hands to show he wasn't armed. "Come talk to me." Tom's men went to draw their wands, and Tom held up his hands. "Do not touch him!" Tom ordered. "He's got Allie."
"Bring her and come," Angus told Ruby quietly. "Try to let me handle this." Marcus and Michael drew their wands, but didn't raise them into position.
"We'll keep you covered," Marcus said.
"Please do," Angus said. He walked forward and stopped within just a few feet from Tom.
"Why is this property important to you?" Tom asked.
"It houses a dance school that's owned by members of my family," Angus told him. "I know for a fact that the owner doesn't want to sell it and that Suzanne strong armed an old man, threatened to kill him, if he didn't sell it to her. She's even willing to pay more than double the value of the property to get it so she can put the school out of business. She forged your name to the sale agreement so she could intimidate the old man and push the sale through quicker, trying to slide it past my nose, but I'm telling you right now that if anything happens to my family or that old man or the school and I won't just break your windows. I'll burn the whole damned house to the ground...."
"I didn't know a damned thing about this til just now," Tom said to Angus. "If I wanted to come after you, I wouldn't try this backdoor bullshit to do it. I'd come straight for you. I'll stop the sale. You have my word. Suzanne went to bring me the sale agreement. Now, can I have my daughter?"
"Not yet," Angus said. "Not til I have that sale agreement in my hand." They waited, and Suzanne came out and walked over and handed the paperwork to Tom. Then, like lighting, she drew out a knife and lunged at Angus, but before the knife could make any contact with Angus, Tom grabbed her arm equally as quickly, giving her arm a good hard, painful twist.
"Drop it!" Tom ordered her fiercely. She wasn't going to let go of it, and she fought against him, with every intention of stabbing Angus. "I said drop it!" Tom ordered her again. "Drop it, or I'll break your arm, I swear it." She resisted, and he twisted her arm even harder until she shrieked in pain. "This is your last warning. Drop it." He gave it another twist, and the knife clattered onto the sidewalk. He let go of Suzanne, and she clutched her arm, tears now running down her cheeks. Gelding looked at a couple of his men. "Get her out of my sight," Tom ordered. "I'll deal with her later." Tom opened the envelope of papers and read through them. He found the rescinding clause at the bottom of the last page, took a pen from his pocket and signed it and dated it. Then he handed the papers to Angus, and Angus doublechecked it for himself.
"Give her to him," Angus told Ruby quietly, putting the paperwork in his shirt pocket.
"Thank you," Tom said. "Next time you want my attention, just bloody ask for it, Donohue. Leave my daughter alone."
"When your family stops messing with my family, I might be able to do that," Angus said.
"Let them leave," Tom told his men.
"We got what we came for. Let's go," Angus told Ruby quietly.
