"Ruby, calm yourself," Robert told her quietly and in a steady tone. "I know you're upset, but this isn't the room to try to do battle in today. We all know your relationship with him. You don't need to force your position here. You can stay, so long as first, you're not in my way. And second, so long as you're not upsetting him or disturbing him. If he were still in St. Mungo's instead of here, you wouldn't be getting in at all right now. Give his current state, I wouldn't dare allow any visitors at all--not even you or Edward."
He continued his detailed assessment of Angus, documenting things in the chart as he went. He took a moment to boost Angus's vitals a bit, charted it, and then looked at Kaden.
"For now, I want his vitals assessed every fifteen minutes," he told Kaden. "I don't want them dropping from where I have them right now. Until we get the antidote in his system, we may need to be boosting this vitals a trifle perhaps once an hour. I'll see about borrowing a monitor from St. Mungo's to save us from having to check them by hand. When we get the antidote, I'm going to make him a potions cocktail of sorts. I'm going to combine that with Nigel's potion for the virus, a potion for fever, one for the itching, and a couple other things to reduce symptoms and to help stabilize him. If I do that and then concentrate it, we'll be able to reduce it to an all-in-one potion. It might honestly taste quite foul, given the things I'll have to combine, but perhaps we can dilute it into a sip or two of tea with some milk and sugar for him. That should help, especially if we're specific on which tea we use. I'm going to step out for a moment and go see how Edward's progressing on the antidote and then see how they're doing at picking up Angus's duties for today."
He found Kate was taking care of Abbey. He talked to her about Angus, and she was shocked and upset at how such horrendous malfeasance could happen. Robert promised he would take care of it. He sent a message to Khaat asking her to come home over lunch so he could talk to her. Then he went down to the kitchen, and he found Michael in Angus's office, reviewing Angus's past orders of groceries and supplies, and checking them to the pantry and the fridge and the barn. He had started a list of supplies and he had done some menu planning for the next couple of days.
"Our boy's not going to be in the kitchen for a few days, so I thought somebody needed to pitch in and keep things going," Michael said. "He is fastidiously organized, did you know that?"
"He's a trained chef. I would expect no less," Robert said.
"Well, he's made it simple to see what he's been doing and where he keeps what and what he orders on a routine basis. I went ahead and planned a week's worth of menus, and I'm making out a shopping list accordingly. What happened to him?" Michael asked. Robert repeated the tale, and Michael was angry.
"Little bastard. I hope you barbeque Redfern's ass or perhaps boil him in oil," Michael said.
"Well, he's not going to work for me anymore," Robert said.
"You do realize Edward is well within his right to sue the hospital and Redfern and the nurse for malpractice," Michael said.
"Yes, and I expect him to. I'll talk to Khaat, but at this point, I think we need to settle. It was a clear mistake on our part, and we need to not hide from it but admit it, correct it, and move on. Changing subjects, could you brew a pot of almond tea, please? I'm going to try to add a potion to it to try to make it less disgusting."
"If it's a foul thing, how about I add just a little cherry to it to make a soothing cherry almond tea? There are some dried cherries in the pantry. I can add them into the tea to add a bit of fruit flavor to it."
"Oh now that would be quite nice indeed. Go gently on the cherry. He's sick enough that he's disoriented yet. I'm hoping the almond tea will help anchor him into realizing he's home."
"Understood. I'll get some lunch cooking shortly. I have a beer cheese soup that Angus absolutely loves..."
"Oh, yes. I know the one. Yes, that's one of his favorites, and we could serve some to him in a mug that he could sip."
"Yes. You could. And I could put some burgers with it. Angus bought some pretzel buns, and they'd be great as burger buns with some portabello mushrooms and some swiss cheese and really great steak sauce on them."
"God, stop. You're making me hungry."
"I'll get on it, then. And I'm going to put on a chicken cacciatore over a cheese polenta for supper.'
"Kate will love you forever. That's one of her favorites."
"Well, if there's anything I can do for Angus, let me know."
"Just the tea for now."
"I'll do that straight away."
"And I'm going to go check on Edward."
