"I might," he said, knowing Jim was right, and as much as he wanted to be part of the family, right now might not be the best timing for that.
He was just about to agree with Jim, when Marcus apparated back in, and he had Khaat with him. She was locked tight in his arms, turned into his chest, her head resting on his neck. She looked barely on her feet. The look in Marcus's eyes told Robert he was on high alert. Something had happened.
"What happened?" Robert asked, trying not to be alarmed. Any thoughts for himself and his own pain simply vanished.
"St Mungo's psychiatric unit was breeched," he said. "She's hurt. One of the patients got out and attacked her. Clawed her face. Opened up those old scars James caused. They tried to help her but...."
"They can't stop the bleeding," Robert finished, knowing exactly what had happened. "Not this. This is different." The scars caused by a werewolf were always deep, slow to heal, and often those wounds never healed. What made it worse was how enormous James' claws were, and the original wounds he'd caused her had been big and deep. "Bring her to me," he said.
Marcus spoke softly to her, so softly no one else could hear him. She only curled tighter to Marcus. He simply picked her up now and carried her to Robert and put her on his lap.
Robert brushed her long hair away from the deep wounds. "Go get Jess, Jim, and waste no time. Marcus, tell Suki I need supplies." He knew he should have healed those scars long ago, but now he regretted it. If he'd healed them for her, no one could have reopened them this easily. But now she was bleeding heavily, as severe wounds from werewolves would do. Jess had seen more than her share of werewolf wounds, and this was something she understood too. Robert needed extra help to stop this.
