Every Hogwarts student had their own personal sanctuary in and around the castle. Many felt at home in their dorm rooms. Some were soothed by the cool breeze and scenery of the lake. Others found solace in the solitude of the library. For Alexander Kaverin, it happened to be the music room.
Since his second grade Alex would visit the room at least twice a week, in the evening, practicing or simply playing the melodies he wanted to hear. After class today, Alex had taken a nap, and now that it was past ten, he left the dungeons for the fifth floor. There was no point lying around in his dormitory when he couldn't sleep. Alex was a night creature, his routine had always been to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. He still remembered in his first year, when people thought that he might be a vampire. Alex was not reclusive by nature, but there were few who were willing to come with him outside the common room at this time. Usually, it got quite lonely, and sometimes he had even been caught, for he never really bothered to be quiet. But Alex had never ceased the routine for more than a week or two.
Every afternoon after the classes, the music teacher would lock the door, and every night Alex would unlock it with a simple alohomara charm. Another muffliato charm ensured that no one else skulking about after hours would hear him. This time, he unlocked the door with the same ease as always, but forgot to use the muffliato charm that would mute the music for anyone else.
There were many instruments in the music room, but Alex was mainly interested in the piano. His finger's poised, Alex suddenly jumped and looked back as he heard a creak outside the room. It sounded like someone was outside, so Alex waited, watching the door. After a minute, he decided to ignore it and, turning back, he began to play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.
