Jess greeted each of the children to his room with a slight inclination of his head, waving off their apologies with his hand, and by giving a small smile to each of them, hopefully that removed the fear of death from them.
He was pleasantly surprised, however, when one of the newcomers answered his question. "Yes, the cardboard box is a portkey, you can tell by the way that it's not only blue, but also by the little aura surrounding it," he replied, picking it up so that the students would have a better view of it. "This one is due to leave in a couple of hours' time, and it will transport me to London - I have a meeting with the Minister tonight," he told them, quietly hoping they would be at least slightly impressed by this fact.

Obviously I can't have you all popping in and out of class, however I would like you to all practice creating a portkey," he explained, smiling as the rest of the crumby objects lifted off his desk and flew out to each of the children. "The core idea of a portkey is that it wont be too obvious, if you use something valuable and someone picks it up, they may find themselves halfway across the country - not good. So, we use junk, more or less, and we use the incantation 'portus' to enchant the object," he instructed. "The spell is similar in principle to apparition - does anyone want to venture a guess as to how you make a portkey go to a certain place?" he asked the class
