Chase walked with Gavrilo as though she was being sentenced to death. Her face was grim, but she immediately felt better when a little girl, no older then three came running out and Gavrilo lifted her up, the girl giggling and laughing. Chase felt immediately at home, and even managed a small smile as she stepped into the midst of the Angelova family. They were a very beautiful family, standing and being happy, talking and laughing as though what was about to happen didn't concern them. An old man stepped up to Chase, and asked her about the baby, and Chase smiled at him.

"Yes.. I had a child with Elijah... but after this last bit of cheating, I took her away.. her and his other adopted children.. they deserve to live in a family much better then the Krums.. and I feel I need to be here to help end the rule of the Krum family over your own.. if I can help in any way.. I will... Sir... I want to help set your family free from their rule over you.. I promise I will do my best.
" She said and bowed her head to him, showing that she wasn't like the other Krums, she wasn't like what they probably thought she was. She could just imagine their image of her.

A tall redheaded beauty, fire in her eyes, but the same actions as the Krums... as evil, and seductive, seductive enough to make even Elijah fall for her. She had to be clever, with a sharp tongue, and the ability to prove herself worthy of the Krum family... but here stood a girl, no older then seventeen, her mouth set into a grim line, her eyes sparkling with good humor. Not an evil air, not a seductive one, but a very kindly, almost mothering air that immediately make someone feel comfortable around her. She smiled at the older man, and looked around at the family, where some of the other people were fighting over what appeared to be tickets.

Chase jumped however, when suddenly there was a rumble from above, and the sky swirled with dark fog, a very heavy magical presence was descending upon them, and Gavrilo was making the children and woman get out of there, it was obvious that someone not nice was coming to where they stood. After everyone who was needed to was gone by portkey, the man appeared, and Chase felt her eyes narrow. She was sure she had seen him a few times, and by the looks of the others in the family, he wasn't liked, at all..

Chase watched the exchange without comment, and when he left, Chase could feel her heart hammering. Viktor Krum was coming... a nice man, who was extremely sentimental, and loved his family as much as she loved her own.. he would be fair would he not? He was who she wanted to speak to, she felt a bit better as there was more magic brewing, and then he stepped out of the very air, silently as he came within their midst.

Suddenly everyone was bowing, except for Chase and the old man she had been speaking to. It was apparent that he was a very high person, but Chase did not feel like dirting her robes on the squishy ground, nor did she feel he deserved to be bowed to. Suddenly Viktor was speaking to her, talking to her as though she were a child, ordering her around. She felt her rage brewing, she would not do as he said! There was no way! But without any reason that Chase could see, Viktor whirled around and sent a green flash of light at a boy, who was tackled to the ground before it could hit him. Chase's hand flew to her mouth. Had he really just done that?! Had Viktor just tried to kill that boy!? Chase could feel her fury building within her, and her fists were clenched tightly at her sides, her eyes glaring hard at the man she had once admired.

"You won't have the children.." Chase said softly in the silence that followed Viktors question directed towards someone else. "They are being taken very well care of, and you will not have them, nor will I let you ever see them." Chase could feel her voice and energy building, and she took a step towards Viktor.

"I once trusted you.. I thought you were a kind man, a nice man, but from what I have heard, you are nothing but a coward and a liar! You hurt people who do nothing but help you, you've hurt your own son in ways that are to horrible to even mention! I trusted you Viktor Krum!! I trusted your family, I trusted on what I saw, I didn't question, I was so madly in love with your son.. and then THIS comes upon me.. hunted like an animal, ordered around, I hear of children killed, a family shunned, I will not have it! I will be the one to stand up to you Viktor, because I have something you want, and if you kill me, well, I guess you'll never have what you want! I will not come with you.. and if you take me by force, I will not go quietly.. I will make sure that everyone in the world knows that I was kidnapped by the famous Viktor Krum, because I have children that he has no right over anyway.. in fact." She said softly, and she drew her wand.

"You can't have them..
" She said and then her smile widened as she pulled a piece of paper out of her inside pocket of her robes. She held out the scroll to the man. "I adopted the two.. they are now officially my children, and you will never see even a hair on their head. So long as I am alive, and even if I am dead, they will be nothing to you, because they are in safe hands." She said and lifted her chin up defiantely, her eyes staring straight into the man's that she had once admired, the man she thought would be fair and friendly, she knew what she wanted, and there wasn't any way he could stop her. "Oh.. and don't worry about ripping that one up.. I have copies.. some in the bank, some in a muggle agency.. I have so many copies, you wouldn't be able to track them all down.. they are mine Krum... and you will never get what you want."

‘No’, was not a word Viktor had wanted to hear. He’d expected compliance and so he had to come up with something quickly to get Chase to come with him. His eyes drifted towards the boys that were dusting the pine needles off of the one that had been foolish enough to speak and Viktor’s eyes raked back over to Chase as she continued her monologue. He raised an eyebrow, inquiring silently if she was done and snapped his fingers. He made a vague gesture that meant nothing to any one of them bar Gavrilo who stepped forward sheepishly, awaiting his punishment. Viktor placed his hand on top of the one resting on the cane by his side and hummed thoughtfully as he considered Chase’s words. Gavrilo stood by the man’s side but back half a pace. He was not allowed to stand shoulder to shoulder – as his height would have allowed – with the man. It was reminder that he was and would forever be, below the station to which Viktor belonged.

“Why would I kill you?” Viktor asked lazily, his eyes betraying the fatigue that did not show in his body. Though, the cane told Gavrilo more than it had perhaps intended to tell everyone else. The man was tired; old and wearing. He had been put under immense strain over the past couple of years and a sense of horror hung like a pungent stench in the air as Gavrilo contemplated the idea that Viktor might be buckling under the pressure. The man was confident though, unwilling to bow when his time was assuredly running out. “You are a precious waste of pure blood. How would my grandchildren cope if they were docked a mother as well as a father? It would not be advantageous for anyone.” He didn’t even look worried about the adoption certificates. His air of indifference remained and Gavrilo felt his heart speed up slightly. “You think such papers mean anything to me?” the man chuckled, looking around and inviting the Angelovas to laugh with him; which they did, but only because they had to. “The law, my dear Chastity, means very little to me – especially when the wheels of that automobile can be greased with the appropriate sum.”

And as he said that, Gavrilo’s fate was sealed. But for the sake of theatrics, Viktor pursed his lips and allowed the Angelovas a second to breathe before a look of triumph spread across his face. He took his hand off of the cane, keeping one firmly attached to the diamond-capped head. He snapped his fingers again and Gavrilo watched as white smoke, as pure as that of an angel’s robe (in theory), drifted up from the man’s thumb and forefinger. Then, for affect, he stamped the cane against the leaf-bedded floor and slowly but surely, parchment began to appear in the air. It unfolded itself and Gavrilo’s breath caught in his throat as his eyes fell on the shaky signature he’d constructed as a young adolescent. There, at the bottom of the page, the signature sat beside the crimson wax that bore the seal of Nia Angelova; the woman that was at the heart of all their suffering. A few gasps were stifled and Gavrilo looked up to see his mother, who he had not set eyes on previously, lift her hand to her mouth.

He lowered his eyes to the floor as his shoulders sunk in shame. On piece of parchment, his heart, his soul and his life as they knew it was in possession of the Krums. One piece of parchment, one signature and his life had been signed away at the tender age of eleven.

“Ms. Moor, I will bargain with you.” Viktor announced, sparing a glance and a smirk in Gavrilo’s direction. “You seem to like these...” he paused, for theatrics once again, as he searched for the word, “people,” he finished scathingly. Gavrilo flinched and noted the gleeful look on Viktor’s face. He was almost positive she’d agree to it. Gavrilo hoped for a second that she wouldn’t. “I am offering you something to sweeten the suggestion. You come with me and I will give you this...” Viktor gestured to the dark-haired, gangly teenager and Gavrilo kept his gaze firmly on his shoes. “...as a gift. Gavrilo Vladamir Krum.” Gavrilo felt his cheeks redden and he began to thoroughly inspect the dirt on his boots. “You can feed him, cloth him, water him and make him grow – do whatever you want with him. He is my bargaining chip. You are a part of my family, Chase, as are those children; I have no intention of losing any of you. So...”

“You can’t do that, though!” Gavrilo’s eyes darted up to see his mother, beautiful and fair, barely being held back by her sisters. Her eyes were wide with alarm, her lips pulled up into an ‘o’ and Gavrilo could feel the worry rolling off of her in waves. “Viktor please,” she yanked her arm out of her sister’s grip and ran down the embankment, throwing herself at the feet of the man. “Have you not taken from this family, enough? He is my son! I cannot part with him!”

“He belongs to me, Zaria,” Viktor deadpanned. “He has matured knowing that he belongs to me. He has not questioned it once. Do not bring more shame upon your family.” Gavrilo watched as his father, with Dalek, aged fourteen, in tow, jogged down the embankment and pulled his wife to his feet. Gavrilo closed his eyes and heard Viktor announce, loud enough for them all to hear, “Vladamir, you should learn to control your family.” The parchment was torn from the air and Viktor stepped forward, shadowed immediately by Gavrilo whose whole life weighed on the redhead’s decision. “It is not your death that matters to them, Chastity. It is his. These are my terms. You come with me and you get him. If you don’t then his contract will end and, well, we’ll just have to think of something else.” Viktor shrugged.

Zaria exploded into sobs and Gavrilo stiffened, reaching out to take the parchment from Viktor. The man released it and Gavrilo felt the weight of it as well as his weakness, and allowed it to pull him to the ground.

“It would be just like getting a House Elf,” Gavrilo heard Viktor’s voice above him. “Think of it this way...I’ll let you go. I just want to know where those children are. As a sort of...insurance policy. I would not dare let Elijah near them now. We have him back as we need him. These are not my words. I would like to see him happy. He isn’t to know about you or about them. It is preferable for me to know them so I can...divert him. A few days in our presence surely won’t hurt. You’ll come off better than all of us put together – you’ll have a House Elf. So...what’ll it be?”

“You would willingly trade my son’s life so you can manipulate your own!?” Zaria shrieked.

Viktor stiffened and Gavrilo looked up to see the man’s fingers drain of blood as his grip impossibly intensified on the cane. “It isn’t my decision, Zaria.” He replied, his voice clipped.

“Then who is calling the shots, Viktor Krum!? Who is pulling the strings while you stand there pretending to be a heartless arsehole! You love your son! I know you do! You can empathise with me! Stop pretending, please! Before you destroy everything you hold dear!”

“Take her away, Vladamir.” Viktor spoke gently. Gavrilo watched as his mother was Apparated away and he lifted the parchment up to his face, blowing away bits of dirt. “Time to make your decision, Chase.” Viktor spoke, his voice gentle and weary.

Running into the least expected person - Page 2 Empty Re: Running into the least expected person

Chase stared at the man, her face troubled. He didn't seem nearly at all upset that she had said no. He had looked troubled for a second, but the look of glee replaced it, and Chase's heart beat faster, she watched as he made a very overdramatic move, paused dramatically, and then held out a piece of parchment that had some signatures at the bottom. For a moment, Chase wasn't sure what it was, but she moved a bit closer and examined it more closely. It appeared to be some kind of contract, for a boy named Gavrilo Angelova... Chase's hand went to her mouth, and she looked up at Viktor with anger and fear on her face now.

Chase's eyes drifted over to the family that was looking stricken at the site of the paper. One little piece of parchment, and this whole boy's life could be thrown away... Gavrilo trailed after Viktor like a lost puppy, staring at the paper that held his fate. If Chase didn't do as Viktor wished... Gavrilo would be killed... if she did.. the children would be made to be used by the Krum family, she would never be free of them.. and either would Gavrilo. Chase stared at Viktor in such a way that it was hard to understand her feelings. It was a mixture of shock, horror, sorrow, and pain, such great pain already creased her face for one so young.

Chase watched as Gavrilo held the parchment, so sorrowful, so distraught, his family was crying, his mother was sobbing, comforted by the rest of the family. All Chase had to do, was agree to Viktor... agree to let him do as he wished.. and she could save their family so much grief, so much heartache.. Chase was trembling as she stood there. She wasn't restrained, but she felt like she was. This family.. around her.. already felt like more of a family then the Krum's ever had.. well besides Fauve, Thierry, Elijah and Chase... they had been a family, a small loving family, until Elijah had betrayed her.. and she had taken the kids.. even though she had been in the family's presence for no more then ten minutes, she liked them better then the whole of the Krum family combined.

So he wanted to know where the kids were.. so that it wouldn't spark Elijah's memory.. so that he would be under the Krum control... Chase needed to make him remember.. everything she needed to know was right there in what Viktor said.. and in a way, it almost sounded as though he were helping her.. he sounded almost scared, tired, and weary of the entire mess. Chase felt like an animal, trapped, and confused, upset and scared. The family... the children.. Elijah, and the Krums.. she would never be free of them if she told him where they were.

But she had to... Gavrilo couldn't die.. she had told them she would help them.. and she would.. but this was something she hadn't intended to happen.. Something she had never expected. And now? Now she would lose her freedom, and the children's freedom for them.. he only wanted to know where they were... he wouldn't hurt them would he? "If I tell you where they are.. will you leave us alone? I come with you now.. and let them pick up the children.. and after that.. may I leave? Will you leave us alone?" She asked softly, tears building behind her eyes.

Chase stared at Gavrilo, her eyes locked on his. He may be older then her, he may be stronger, tougher, and smarter then she was... but his life rested in her hands.. someone she had barely known, was now being told that she held his fate, by a simple yes or no... Heart hammering, Chase stared at Gavrilo for another moment, before she had to turn her head away, she couldn't look at him.. couldn't stand it anymore. She felt like a prisoner, without bars and without the cage.. but the cage was there... waiting for her to walk into it willingly, and when she did, the door would snap closed behind her and she would be trapped forever.

But she had to do it.

Slowly, and very carefully, Chase's eyes ran over the Angelova's... if she said yes, she could let Gavrilo stay with them.. she could let Gavrilo do as he wanted, and she could help him along the way.. if not.. Chase felt tears burn her eyes, and her face lowered to look at the ground, feeling so small and pathetic, only 17, to young to be making this decision, but it was hers to make no one elses.

After a moment's pause, Chase nodded slowly, and looked up at Viktor. "Fine...I will go with you." She said softly, small tears trickling down her face, but she wiped them away quickly, and stared at him, not moving, her eyes only on Viktor, and not on the family anymore. She would save Gavrilo.. and then they would get out of this together.. It was their only hope.

The rhythmic thump of his heart was no longer as steady or as predictable. Gavrilo’s heart was thundering against his chest like a freight train ready to derail. His mind had disconnected all lines to the other parts of his body and as his breathing increased in speed to the huff and puff of the metaphorical train, the world began to close in on him as if he was being forced into an Apparation tube but he wasn’t actually going anywhere.

Gavrilo could feel the moist earth beginning to soak the material pulled taught over his kneecaps. The chill began to spread through his body and he involuntarily shuddered. His hands moved in opposite directions and he felt the parchment give in his grasp. Gavrilo heard the sound of the paper ripping and he released the page. It did not fall to the floor, though. A burst of magic swept underneath and levitated the page into the air. Gavrilo looked up, in search of the person doing the spell and received a smile from Jakob. Gavrilo felt the sides of his lips twitch, almost into a grimace, in return before ducking his head once more.

“There is a lot of politics in the matter...” Viktor spoke carelessly, prompting Gavrilo to look up. “I only need one answer from you and then he’s yours. I cannot guarantee what I have offered but there is an element of truth in all of it.” Gavrilo rolled his eyes, mentally willing Chase to hurry up and decide his fate already. He wanted it to be swift: painless. “I can assure you though that this is for your benefit as much as my own. I do not want him finding out. He can be put back on course – as his mother wanted. The only problem were those children – as much as I love them – and, of course, you and your daughter. You are a precious gift but you can only be kept at arm’s length. He has had his life set out for him. This is a chance to right what went wrong. I need your cooperation for this. I need you to help me so I can help you. I love Fauve and Thierry...and Katherine. This has been displayed. I just need to know that you will cooperate. Besides, you get a House Elf. You can hardly complain.”

Gavrilo had convinced himself that she would say no. He’d mentally been counting the seconds until his execution, his eyes boring into Chase, begging her to reconsider. When she finally spoke, she did not deny Viktor. Gavrilo heard his mother give a shriek of delight and he felt James and the twins plough into him. He collapsed, the boys clambering over him to cup his face and kiss his cheeks. Gavrilo could only manage a weak smile as his heart finally gave up and began to calm down. The freight train was back on course.

But then, it began to speed up as he realised that he wasn’t going to die. He felt the bonding magic coil within him and he watched as the canary yellow threads of core magic reached out and curled themselves around Chase before sinking into her skin. It was then that Gavrilo truly realised what she’d done for him. He shot to his feet and bounded over to her, gathering her up into his arms and swinging her around into the air. Gavrilo held her up in the air above him so he could look at her, pure, unadulterated delight on his face. Gavrilo set her back down onto her feet before kissing her full on the mouth. He gave her a bruising kiss before planting two, slightly sloppy, displays of his affection on each cheek.

Gavrilo bounded off towards his mother and plucked her up off of the ground, bringing her to him and hugging her tight, his strong arms carrying what little weight she possessed. She kissed him as if she was trying to wear the skin down on his cheeks. Gavrilo laughed and kissed her on the cheek before picking up his brother and tossing him onto his shoulders. His father threw caution into the wind and wrapped his son up in a hug. There would be no awkward handshakes and murmurs of ‘well done’ – not in this family.

Even Viktor cracked a smile, knowing that it had been the right choice on Chase’s part. He gestured vaguely with his hand and offered Chase a smile. “Off to the manor, then?”

Running into the least expected person - Page 2 Empty Re: Running into the least expected person

Post by Chastity Moor Wed Apr 27, 2011 10:22 pm

Chase knew things were changing around her, as soon as she nodded her head, and gave her assent, she could hear the family celebrating. They hadn't believed that she wanted to help their family... they hadn't believed her, but they did now.. she didn't blame them though, when being in the clutches of the Krums for so long... she hadn't realized the power was so strong in the bond that family shared with the Krums. She watched happily as the family rejoiced in her decision, and suddenly there was an odd yellow light that left Viktor, and for a moment, it was as though she could see and hear everything Gavrilo felt and heard.

His joy, his amazement, everything flooded into her, not to mention the fear he had just felt, the unexpected surprise, the doubt, the questioning, it was all there in her for a split second, but just like that the bond that connected them sunk into Chase's skin and it was all cut out again. Suddenly she was picked up and half flung into the air, Gavrilo's arms wrapped around her as though she weighed nothing. He held her up and she felt dizzy with the sudden height, but suddenly she was down on the grass again, and he was kissing her full on the mouth.

It wasn't expected, but Chase felt as though she had been plunged into a warm bath.. it was a familiar kiss, if from different lips, but it was the kiss of a Krum, even if he didn't have the last name. Chase gasped slightly, and was to shocked to do anything before he finished the kiss and placed two kisses on her cheeks, and ran off to rejoice again. Chase watched them happily, running a finger thoughtfully over her bruised lips before she realized she was holding the paper that kept them bound, it was clutched in her hand, although she wasn't quite sure how it had gotten there. Looking at it, she bit her lip, and then tucked it away, there may come a time when her new bond with Gavrilo would be useful... so she'd keep that safe.

Looking at Viktor, Chase felt a grimace cross her face. The worry about the Angelova's was done, but what she had done to secure Gavrilo's safety, was now coming full into view. Chase took a deep breath, she had to be strong now.. and she had to do something, and something fast, so with a look at the rejoicing family, she winced slightly. "Gavrilo.. can you come with me?" She asked, in as kind of a voice as she could, while still being firm. She wasn't quite sure what the power of the bond did, and she didn't know what to expect from Gavrilo, but she knew that for now.. she needed his help.

Later, Gavrilo would question himself and wonder what exactly caused the spontaneous kiss that he would kick himself for. Until that moment though, he was perfectly content to receive the hugs and kisses from his family who were on cloud nine with him. He’d never felt so happy before; so relieved. Knowing that he’d be able to tuck his sister in at night and hold his mother in his arms when his father couldn’t was the best feeling in the world. He’d be able to go to the Quidditch matches the lads stole tickets for. He’d be able to continue living and that was all because of a redhead with more ties to the Krum family than she knew how to break. Now she had another one, one that Gavrilo hoped she wouldn’t rid herself of: him.

Gavrilo heard Chase over the jibes from his cousins and he looked at her quizzically, feeling a tug on the bond. It wasn’t an order but it was a request; something that meant a hell of a lot more to him. The Angelovas stopped and Gavrilo smiled. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to his mother’s forehead. She sniffled and he smiled at her before breaking away from his family and moving over to Chase. He picked his bag back up as he walked and slung it onto his shoulder. Gavrilo cleared his throat and parked himself beside her before looking over at Viktor who had a rather pleased smile on his face. Gavrilo quirked an eyebrow at the man and he shook his head.

“Pay me no mind, Gavrilo,” Viktor waved his hand and straightened up. “I am pleased. I am very pleased in fact. I am glad you chose correctly, Chase. He would have been an almighty loss. Shall we move on? I believe Arlene has been baking so there will be plenty to eat at the manor. I assume you are hungry, Gavrilo?”

Gavrilo nodded hesitantly, wondering whether that was the right answer or not. Viktor nodded and looked over at Gavrilo’s family who had amounted once again on the embankment.

“You may all go home. I am sure the little ones will need to rest.” Viktor smiled at Jakob and one by one, the Angelova’s began to Apparate away. Then, just like that, it was the three of them and Gavrilo found himself feeling rather alone. The bond tugged again and he glanced over at Chase. He moved a little closer to her but kept his eyes on Viktor who seemed content just to watch.

“To the manor then?” Gavrilo questioned as Viktor produced a coin – a Portkey.

    “To the manor.” Viktor nodded.

Post by Chastity Moor Fri May 06, 2011 9:41 pm

Chase watched the happy reunion with a small sad smile on her face. If only her family was that loving.. she had the kids, but it was important to her, that they grow up as more then just another part of the family, she wanted them to develop, and change, and learn from mistakes. She wanted them to know what was like to need certain things, and to know how to deal with the struggle between want and need. Chase looked at the family and smiled slightly. She was happy she had saved their son, he was a good man, and he did his family good. It revolted Chase that Viktor would just.. kill him off if she didn't do exactly as she was told. Lives were at stake, and that was not something she would handle lightly.

Viktor looked pleased that Chase would cooperate, but Chase was nearly dying inside. It was like the small smile was nothing but a shadow over her face. Her forehead was crumpled, and there was an odd dead look behind her eyes. She wasn't used to being ordered around like this, in fact, she had never had to make such a heavy decision, maybe for her own life sure.. but for the life of another.. it weighed her down. Money didn't mean the end of your problems, it just meant that you had to deal with bigger ones. A relationship with the Krum's might sound heavenly.. but in the end it was worse then going to Azkaban until you died.

Chase stared at Viktor for a long moment, and then looked at Gavrilo, who had moved closer to her. "Thank you." She said softly, so that only he could hear. Chase watched the interaction between him and Viktor, and the revolted look on her face returned. He would only speak to him now that he wasn't below him.. because Chase made him above that station.. because cared whether he lived or died... Gavrilo was someone now.. the rest of the family hadn't changed.. but Gavrilo could help Chase make that happen... and she had a feeling she would be getting a lot of Gavrilo's advice from then on. He would never be a House-elf to Chase.. no.. he would be her friend.. her advisor... her equal, in everything but papers. Chase bit her lip and stared at the coin, and finally, she reached out her hand firmly.

"To the manor." She said and put her finger on the portkey.

Running into the least expected person - Page 2 Gavrilo1 Running into the least expected person - Page 2 Gavrilo
-----------------------------------------------
shadows all around you as you surface from the dark, emerging from the gentle grip of
NIGHT'S UNFOLDING ARMS. DARKNESS
darkness every where, do you feel all alone? the subtle grace of gravity, the heavy weight of stone.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Gavrilo felt the uncomfortable tug on his belly button and he felt his feet leave the safety net of the grassy embankment. Soon they were whirling through the air and even Viktor managed to lose his countenance. The three of them landed on the front lawn of the manor and Gavrilo groaned. He heard the rustle of Viktor’s expensive robes and opened an eye to see the man composed and ready to go. Gavrilo sighed and pushed himself up into a sitting position before throwing himself back onto his feet. He then proceeded to help Chase to her feet before looking at Viktor for direction. He didn’t know what the man had planned next but the purposeful stride he was making towards the manor seemed indication enough.

Gavrilo stifled a yawn and waited patiently for Chase to start walking. It was a rule they’d always been taught but it didn’t quite make sense to Gavrilo. He always expected to have to walk in front of Viktor or Stefan or whoever just so they could keep an eye on him. Instead, he was either supposed to walk beside or behind them but within reach. He didn’t know how Chase wanted to balance that so he just decided it would be best to follow her lead. He wasn’t exactly sure whether it was a good idea to leave her alone, either. He knew she’d been to the manor before but not enough times to know the place without getting lost. It was said to be unplottable and Gavrilo could understand why.

“Do keep up you two!” Viktor shouted back.

Gavrilo looked up and watched as the doors opened. Lorelei Krum, Stefan’s eldest child, shot out with her brothers in tow, both wearing matching expressions of pure boredom. She began to babble excitedly from what Gavrilo could see and he didn’t care to find out why. Then, Viktor Apparated. Gavrilo stiffened and looked about himself. He slid closer to Chase, unsure as to what to do, and watched as Catalina and her eldest, Andres, slid out of the house. She was much more welcoming than her son who couldn’t help but smirk at Gavrilo as they descended. Catalina swatted her son before smiling widely at Chase. Gavrilo couldn’t help but note that she didn’t even spare a glance at him. Charming.

“Welcome, Chase!” She enthused. “Viktor had to go to the hospital quick. Harry called him. Now, let’s get you inside and I’ll cook you up something.”

Catalina began to eagerly list the dishes she could prepare and Gavrilo folded his arms over his chest. He felt Andres brush up beside him and he cocked an eyebrow at the Spaniard, curling his lip in disgust. Andres smirked openly and slung his arm across Gavrilo’s shoulders and began to lead him up to the house behind Chase and Catalina.

“You’re still a filthy little bastard, you know.” Andres commented airily, looking over at the fountains shooting water into the air. “No matter who owns you. I don’t care whether Dumbledore himself lays claim to you. You’re still a bastard and now, you’re little red’s whore. You’ll probably be had by all of them. How does that feel, Gavvy? Is that at all familiar to you? Does it feel like home? I bet it does. I’ll introduce you to Javi’s boyfriend. Maybe they’ll enjoy you as well. Oh wait, you belong to her. That’s such a shame. You’re a pretty little thing really aren’t you? I forgot that. Underneath all of the bullshit you’re quite innocent aren’t you Gavvy? Just looking for a good time...”

And then, in a flash, Andres was on his back, his t-shirt caught in Gavrilo’s fist. The ebony wand Gavrilo possess was pressed painfully against Andres’ jugular and Gavrilo couldn’t help but feel gleeful as he watched the Spaniard squirm. Andres brought his knee up between Gavrilo’s legs and the Angelova fell to the side, his hands reaching to protect his throbbing groin. It was Andres straddling him then and soon, the punches began. Gavrilo soon forgot about the pain between his thighs and punched Andres back with equal fervour. The boys rolled around on the grass, getting both blood and grass stains on their clothes as the fight escalated. No one seemed to want to stop them though and Gavrilo felt adrenaline course through him.

    “Gavrilo! Stop! Bloody hell!”

Gavrilo felt arms loop under his elbows and he looked up blearily to see Niko Petrov, one of Rada’s descendents, dragging him away from Andres while Georgio and Gustav held the Spaniard back. He looked at Avdotia as she knelt down before him and winced as she dabbed a wet cloth against his lip.

“You silly boy, Gavrilo.” She chastised him, allowing a small smile onto her face. “You should know better than to get yourself into more trouble. You need to learn to ignore Andres. Come here sweetheart.” Gavrilo let the woman wrap him up in a hug and he pursed his lips, wondering idly whether beating the living daylights out of the cocky sod had been a good idea. “It wasn’t,” She whispered, as if reading his mind. “But you got him good. Well done lad. Keep this on your lip. I’ll sort out your nose later.” Gavrilo nodded and kept his head hung low as he really began to doubt himself.

Chase felt her feet leave the ground, and they were flying through the air. It felt like an eternity before they finally hit the ground, and she fell onto her butt. Somehow Viktor had been able to stay standing, and he was already striding up to the manor before she had even gotten to her feet. It was fast, but it almost felt like slow motion, as two people left the house, and said something rather animatedly to Viktor, who suddenly disappeared with a crack. Chase bit her lower lip and glanced at Gavrilo, her hand moving to find his arm, to keep her upright. She was shaking like a leaf, and wasn't sure how she would be able to do all of this now..

Suddenly the woman was upon her, speaking quickly and talking about food dishes, and Chase was swept away up the grounds, but before they could make it even halfway, there was a sudden sound from behind them, and Chase spun around to see Gavrilo and the other man brawling it out on the grounds. Chase was about to tell them both to stop it, and she had nearly said it to, when the woman shushed her, and pointed at them, silently telling her to let them fight it out. Chase stood anxiously for a long moment until the woman figured it was okay and made them stop. Chase ran to help Gavrilo and held onto his arm lightly, staring into his beaten face. "Gavrilo..." She said softly, her voice tight. "I need you in one piece okay? Please..." She looked up at him pleadingly, and looked at the woman.

What did they think of her? It was the biggest question on Chase's mind.. before she had been welcome with open arms, happily invited, put up with, encouraged.. now all she saw was anger.. hatred even... nothing like they had before... no there was something else there.. maybe it had always been there and she had been to blinded to see it, but now.. no.. they didn't like her at all.. they never had... only this time she was here as her normal self, not pregnant, not clutching Elijah's arm.. no, she was here because she had tried to get out, and they hated her for it.. it was her fault Elijah was hurt.. it was her fault all this was happening... but she couldn't do anything about it now.. but give them what they wanted.

Puffing out her chest, Chase strode up to the man who had been fighting Gavrilo. "I understand that before he was nothing to your family... but now you are all equals understand? I will not tolerate any fighting like that again! Do you hear me? Not another punch! You are both human, and though you may have been born to different lines of blood, that means nothing more then two different families who grew up as neighbors! So I demand you stop any unpleasant thoughts in your head, and suck it up! He is a person, and you sir.. are probably less then the man he is...I demand you apologize to him!" She said angrily, her hair puffing out with the indignity of it. She didn't care if she insulted every single Krum in the entire estate, she would not stand for anything being treated with anything less then the respect they deserved. Especially a person like Gavrilo.

"Now.. I am here not to eat, or do whatever the hell you wanted to madam... I am here to settle what is going on with this family. I'm not hungry.. and I would rather talk to Gavrilo alone for a bit if you don't mind.. is there somewhere I can go to talk to him?" She asked, her head held high, trying to gain back what little control she had. She needed to talk to Gavrilo. "I will take care of his wounds when I am alone with him...I was studying to become a healer before I got chased into hiding.. if you don't mind.." She said and held tightly onto Gavrilo's arm, staring at the two other people with a mixture of strong dislike, and indignation written all over her face.

GBeing a Krum of any design meant you were brought up bilingual. With all of the different European families mixing in with each other, the languages muddled and so everyone knew a little bit of everything. Gavrilo had specialised in languages while at Durmstrang and he rarely did much else. That didn’t make him less of a capable wizard. In fact, if it had been a fair fight between the two, Andres would have been nothing but dust. But regardless of magical ability, of which he had in bounds, his speciality was language and so when Andres started shouting in a mix of Spanish and Bulgarian, Gavrilo had no trouble decoding it. In fact, he was half tempted to go back and prove his point but Avdotia put her hands on his shoulders, forcing him down onto the grass. She looked at him pointedly and Gavrilo sighed, averting his eyes like a scolded, petulant child.

Niko helped Gavrilo to his feet and Gavrilo could only do but watch as Tatiana swept across the lawn, her robes straining across her protruding stomach, to kiss her husband’s bruised ego. Gavrilo couldn’t understand how such a sweet young woman could end up with that. But as he observed Andres, he saw the anger dissipate as he took the ruby-haired woman into his arms. Their child was sat firmly between them; a boy, Emilio. Gavrilo couldn’t understand for the life of him why anyone would want to procreate with someone like Andres. He understood that she loved him but the reasons as to why had always escaped his comprehension.

The wind carried the sweet nothings Andres whispered to her and Gavrilo bristled at the sound of her laughter. He pressed the cloth against his bleeding lip and looked at Chase, frowning a little before shrugging. It didn’t matter whether he was in one piece or a thousand pieces, he’d still be treated the same way. Andres was impossible, proud and so was Gavrilo. It was for that reason that the two never got on. Their conflicting personalities coupled with the desire to protect their family’s honour resulted in a number of fights between them. Andres nearly always won but he had to for Gavrilo knew the repercussions if Andres didn’t win.

“M’fine,” he mumbled, shrugging her off. His ego was wounded just as much as Andres’ was. He wasn’t intentionally being rude to her but he was tired and hungry and he really didn’t need to have been fighting. Andres was all smiles though. He always seemed less volatile with Tatiana around. Gavrilo cleared his throat and swallowed some of the blood. He made a face and Avdotia pursed her lips. She batted his hand away and pressed the cloth firmly against his mouth. Gavrilo quirked the sides of his lips up and she slapped him on the shoulder. He swallowed back a bubble of laughter and watched her smirk slightly. He moved to say something but Chase’s voice cut him off.

Gavrilo ducked out of Avdotia’s grasp and took Chase’s wrist, hoping to take her away from Andres if the Spaniard’s decision was to fight back. Gavrilo placed himself in front of Chase and gently began to push her back. He shook his head at her and told her, “Do not provoke him. There is no use. Just leave it be.” He cast a look over his shoulder and was glad to find that Tatiana was calming Andes down, deterring him from snapping at the redhead. Gavrilo shot the woman a smile and continued to try and ferry Chase along. But then, she started on Catalina. “Chase...” Gavrilo murmured, casting an awkward glance over at Catalina who seemed more insulted than anything else. She huffed, turned up her nose and strode back up to the house without another word.

Andres sneered at Gavrilo and followed his mother, slinging an arm around Tatiana’s waist and leading her away with him, just as she turned to smile at Gavrilo. Niko seemed the most eager to accommodate them so he picked up Gavrilo’s bag and gestured for Chase and the Angelova to follow them. Gavrilo readily trailed behind Niko and Avdotia. With Chase on his arm, it was easier to keep to what he was used to. He wasn’t in front of her or behind. Instead, he was beside her. Gavrilo licked his lips absent-mindedly and waited for Niko to open the French doors to the House Elves’ kitchens. The little creatures scrambled out of the way when he entered and Niko ordered a bowl of warm water and some antiseptic before guiding the two up a spiral staircase into a spare bedroom that looked permanently stuck in between toddling years and pre-adolescence.

There was a bed pushed up underneath a large window. The covers were childish and there were pages of parchment covering it. There was a layer of dust over every surface and the room looked older than it probably was. Niko pulled the sheets off of pieces of furniture and slowly but surely, the room gained its character. Avdotia threw open the balcony doors and pulled down the curtain covering the window light. Soon, it turned into a room fit for a small boy. Gavrilo was entranced by it. It looked as if it had been abandoned abruptly; as if suddenly, whoever owned the room had just...grown out of it.

“This was Elijah’s room.” Avdotia explained, once again giving Gavrilo the feeling that she had read his mind. “You used to sit here, Gavrilo, and Charles and Edward would perch down beside you, regaling stories of great adventure that they’d heard or made up. Do you remember?” Avdotia smiled wistfully. “It’s such a shame.” Her hands left the small, faded blue chair she’d been grasping and took her husband’s hand. “The House Elves will help you if you need it. We’ll be the main house. You’ll know how to call us Gavrilo.”

And with that they left, leaving Gavrilo and Chase alone in the room of the latter’s ex-fiancé. Gavrilo couldn’t have felt anymore awkward. He sat down on the bed and ran his hands through his hair, letting a quiet groan fall from his lips. “Remind me just to kill him next time,” he commented wryly, even managing a smile before a yawn took over.
