Simon smiled at the compliment, taking 'you look nice' as 'oh, Simon, you are such a stud, I am ever so glad you are my date, I'm the luckiest girl at the ball, your father would be so proud right now he'd pass out, you're the best date ever Simon!' So, yes, he was rather pleased by the comment and gave a wide, tell-tale grin.
She suggested they dance since the music had started. He liked the song and was glad they were not doing lame waltzes or something. So the freak-alien girl at least was a good DJ. Simon was actually a good dancer- not in the way he was a “good” Quidditch player, but actually competent. Selene pulled him onto the dance floor, and he flashed a smile to any Hogwarts student could see. An older, French girl... eager to dance with HIM.
He placed his hands on her hips and did the classic slow dance, though he pulled it off with a pit more pizazz by pompously clicking his shiny shoes together whenever he got the chance. He stared right at Selene, a toothy, winning smile on his face, unfazed now that everyone was watching them. He could put up an act. Sincerity was more difficult. “Most the time I study... play Quidditch... or hang out with friends. What have you been doing with all your free time?”
Selene looked at Simon in an odd way. This kid... he was slightly confusing her, and but oh well, at least she had a date right? She could ditch him later and go sit on the sides. Sure she would have to accept SOME dances, just so that she didn't appear rude, but at least she could turn down most of them. He was going on about what he did in his free time. She HAD asked, and at least it wasn't an awkward, lets stare at each other and dance type thing. Selene still had her mind stuck in the 1920s way of thinking, courtesy of the last task, so her mind was thinking of all of the old dances they used to have. Where balls were meant to be places where you caught up on the latest gossip. You didn't stand and dance without talking, you gossiped and talked and laughed and the such.
"What do I do? Hmm.. well, I study a lot, and work on what I zink ze next task will be like." She said lightly. "At Beauxbatons, normally I would just study most of ze time. I am not a rich woman Simon, so I must get my tuition ozer ways, and zose ways include getting good grades. Even zough, all of last year I was completing two years of study." She said in her heavy French accent. Flicking her hair over her shoulder, she glanced around the room filled with people, who were slowly starting to trickle in, and dance. Soon it would be full enough for her to excuse herself, at least at the end of this song, which seemed to be dragging on for forever and a half.
"So you are a Ravenclaw Simon, eez zat a good house to be in? I really only know zem because I seet at zat table for Breakfast." She said lightly. "I see a lot of zem in ze library as well, Zey enjoy reading I suppose right?" She asked lightly, glancing over her shoulder at the girl who was DJing the music. She was an odd one, and seemed to be having a blast with what she was doing. Which was good, because so far the song she had played was pretty awesome. Ministry of Magic was one of her favorite bands, they were very good, and if she ever could, she would meet them one day. "so.. erm.. what eez your.... common room like Simon?" She asked, pulling her eyes back to her date.
