Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Lesson 6 - N.E.W.T. Level Empty Lesson 6 - N.E.W.T. Level

Post by James William Wilson Sat Dec 11, 2010 11:04 am

Wilson entered his classroom. It was empty, for now, but soon... his students will arrive, thinking they can do what they want, as it is with the majority of them. He had finally begun with teaching some relevant subjects, meaning he had finished with those boring and stressing introductory classes. He waved his hand, and text appeared on the board, with the usual not to copy it down. As soon as they were all present, he would start with the class.

Post by James Wake Wed Dec 15, 2010 4:29 am

James entered the classroom. He had reviewed the syallabus and marked this class as a first- this was a class that would require his attention. Alan was a skilled wizard- at least, according to most of his colleagues, anyways, but he was a harsh teacher. James had been forced to learn most of his magic on his own, but non-Verbal magic was something he rarely had the focus for- even if his focus usually found itself latched onto his studies, every time he would focus on a spell, his fellow head-mates would have a thing or two to say. Recently, however, the voices had bent slightly to his whim. Ever... so... slightly...

James Wake, however, still performed his daily motions, setting his utensils of learning about the familiar second row seat he often inhabited. He wrote down the title of the day's lesson, before casting the copy spell on the quill.

Post by Brienne Ravenquist Fri Dec 17, 2010 12:04 pm

Brienne seemed to approach the room with some caution. What could it be holding her back, say? One look into the classroom, but she couldn't find one. She edged her way in. She looked to be on the edge about something that she couldn't quite know just yet, but it had to do with this classroom right about now. For some reason. The wolf in her would've told her to rip the professor to shreds - and hide the evidence. Hiding the evidence would be the hardest thing - wait. Was she serious? No, couldn't be. The snow outside seemed to fall endlessly, and she had just been in it. Her cheeks were slightly rose from the nips at them from the teeth of old man winter, frail as he may have seemed. Frailty was only a disguise of old man winter.

Her chapped hands were tucked into her pockets, even as she sat down. The roughed up appendages laid out the books and parchment she'd need. She managed to cut herself on the parchment, the scarlet staining her hands.

Louis entered the classroom. It was the Defence Against The Dark Arts Louus fancied. The only thing he didnt fancy was the teacher. Louis wanted to stay on his good side. He took seat and waited for classes to start. Louis really wanted to take out his wand and shoot the Crutacius Curse at him. He actually feared the man. More than he feare You-know-who himaelf. He had seen Brienne and James . Louis had been forced to use magic that he never new he could pull off.

Post by Jaquellene Jack Dyllan Wed Dec 29, 2010 1:05 am

Jack slipped into the classroom, a little exhausted with everything that had been going on, but a little stronger than she had been in the past few weeks. She continued to hide it well, and as she entered, her trust laser pointer was in her hands from some trouble she had already been causing. With a smile, she let the beam dance across the classroom before slipping in her pocket. It meant a lot to her and she really did not need Wilson to take it from her.

She scanned the classroom. Brienne, Louis... And James. For a second, she considered sitting with him because they had become rather friendly in the past weeks. But she also owed him a lot, and he never seemed to enjoy her company, so perhaps the nicest thing was to leave him be. She sat in the back and dropped her bag to the ground before cracking her knuckles, ready to begin.

''I can't say I'm to happy to see you in such a vast number, but at least you won't start a food fight'', he commented, looking at the small amount of students currently in the classroom. Attendance was becoming lower by the class, but at least it was more peaceful this way. ''Now, since you bring me so much joy that I would rather watch the paint dry, I shall ask if any of you ever had experience with non-verbal magic?'', he inquired.

Post by Miseria Lupin Wed Jan 05, 2011 1:44 pm

OOC: Sorry for showing up this late =D was busy with... everything.

Miseria stepped into the classroom just in time to hear Wilson's question about non-verbal magic. She didn't even have to reply to this one. She had no experience with this type of magic. She sat down on her usual place, the last row. She didn't mind sitting alone all the time. In fact, it was even better, not that anyone would actually disturb her during the lessons. When taking out her book and wand, she looked around. There weren't many students. Only Jack, Brienne, Louis, James and her. Smaller amount of stundets than the last time. When she was done estimating the classroom, she turned her eyes at the professor, and also awaiting for other students to say something.

Post by Jaquellene Jack Dyllan Thu Jan 06, 2011 1:42 am

Jack could not stop the words that came out of her mouth. "That much, sir?" She could not help it. She responded to sarcasm with more sarcasm. It was her first language really. And then cynicism. She knew it was her mouth that often got her in trouble. She had landed herself a month;s worth of detention with Elldir by calling him a name. In the end, it had been worth it. He had revoked the rule she had been breaking. But still, she should have been watching her mouth lately.

She knew, usually, that teachers at least wanted a good answer and sometimes ignored lip for it. That was the only reason she had not failed Transfiguration for tardiness, because she at least offered the correct answers to make up for it. So she said, "Well, a lot of teachers begin asking us to use Nonverbal magic either in our OWL year or beginning of our sixth year, so most of us have, I'm sure." She had for sure. "It really helps in duels, believe me." She smirked.

Lesson 6 - N.E.W.T. Level Empty Re: Lesson 6 - N.E.W.T. Level

Post by James William Wilson Fri Jan 21, 2011 11:09 am

''Of course it should help, but in official dueling it is forbidden to do so, but in the duels you practice in your backyards you are, of course, allowed to do so. So, this will be only our first lesson where you will be introduced to the basics and some of the more simple spells. What you have to know is that your knowledge of non-verbal magic will improve in time. It requires skill, practice and concentration - you are all wizards and witches, which, basically, means that you have all of that in you, but that is no guarantee you will be able to master it. You need to practice. Start with the basics and then continue forth and master even the advanced spells. Now, the basic rule of non-verbal magic is concentration. You need to channel your magic into the wand by concentration and concentration only. There is no incantation, no secret formula... you just need to concentrate. Of course, when you master all of it, the required amount of concentration will be lower than now, but more on that later. Now, what I want you to try it so use your wand to levitate your parchment, but I don't want to hear a word from you. This is just the beginning as I do want to see what the lot of you can do. If you don't face any problems with that task, I shall continue with some more advanced challenges. Now, I want to see flying parchments'', he said, taking a seat at his desk.

Louis had used non-verbal magic before."Sir, I dont mean to dis-respect. But all off us could pull it off. Even the second years." He said. Louis pointed his wand and non-verbally made his parchment float it moved akwardly because Louis hadnt used non-verbal magic before."It was pretty easy." He said. Louis sat back down and kept the parchment up. He waited for more people to try.
