Class had begun after a few of the stragglers arrived, and Amelia put her book back in her bag when the professor called the class to attention. Although the lesson had begun, it seemed that the Ariel’s words toward Brienne had caused a spat that wasn’t ending just because the professor was speaking. Amelia didn’t see the original jinx, but she did notice when Ariel began fidgeting in his desk, reaching down and itching the lower part of his leg. Although Amelia would have regarded this merely as restlessness, it seemed Ariel was more aware of the situation than Amelia, because he looked menacingly at Brienne and, out of view of the professor but not of Amelia, the Slytherin boy flicked his wand and Brienne found herself with a new set of features, these more befitting of a farm creature than a wolf.
Brienne seemed unaware of her transformation, which was likely why she volunteered yet another answer to the professor. She was always so over-eager to supply the answers, so although Amelia knew them, she wasn’t going to take away Brienne’s spotlight. The other Ravenclaw girl seemed to want the attention, and Amelia had no desire for it. The brunette Ravenclaw figured out her transfiguration a few seconds later, however, but instead of reacting hotly, as Amelia likely would have, Brienne merely shrugged off the spell and ignored Ariel.
Rather mature of her… Amelia thought to herself while simultaneously following along with what the professor was saying. It seemed the subject of today’s class would be the bubblehead charm, which Amelia thought was rather rudimentary for N.E.W.T. levels, especially if they were going to be performing it verbally, but she made no attempt to voice these feelings aloud. Instead, when the class was given free reign to complete the task of the day, Amelia stood up from her desk and, moving away from Ariel, approached her currently-empty barrel.
With a flick of her wand, the barrel in front of her was shortly filled with clear, colorless water. At this point, Amelia ceased the aguamenti charm and took a few deep breaths, careful this time not to look into the water lest she get caught in the same introspection she had felt last time.
Raising her wand, Amelia said the words to cast the bubble-head charm, loudly enough that only she could hear them, but enough to produce the desired effect. Almost immediately, Amelia felt the air around her head pushing against her facial features, and a clear sheen somewhat like a window had been placed between herself and everything around her. Both of these were clear signs that the charm had worked, but Amelia found her hands reaching up to touch the solid sphere anyway, if only to reassure herself that it was correct.
There was really only one way to know for sure, though, that she had performed the charm exactly, and thus Amelia turned slowly toward the barrel once more. She was not overly fond of the idea of having to put her head into the barrel, but as it was part of an academic task, Amelia couldn’t exactly put up a fight about it. Instead, she planted her feet firmly and leaned forward toward the barrel, closing her eyes as the bubble around her head submerged itself underwater, though her skin and hair stayed thankfully dry.
