Jack was pissed at Chase's words, but suddenly, that did not matter... Jack stared at Chase in shock and surprise when she wheeled around and pulled her wand out, pointing it at Jack. Jack did not care that a wand was being pointed at her. What else was new? No... It was... Something else. She stared at Chase and said in a quiet voice. "I'm not going to hurt you, I..." She stared at Chase in shock. "You... You think I was going to hurt you. You... I'm not Vito, Chase."
She stared at Chase, a constricted feeling coming up in her throat. She had accepted that besides hate and murder, she was tied to Vito because of their similar, if not identical, personalities. She would not hate others (she seemed to overlook the rule for herself) and she would not hurt others. She had fought Death Eaters, but for her own safety. For a tough, rough person, Jack did not seek to hurt others...
And here she was, being more or less accused of attempting to do just that. Words were not needed for this accusation, only that raised wand, expressing a need to defend against Jack. That meant Jack was on the offensive... She did not want to believe that. She had always been the defensive... Protecting friends, Vito, classmates... Never had she been the one that people needed to protect themselves against...
She could not become Vito. But it was clear Chase saw her a s dangeorus, just like Vito... She needed to be protected against... It would kill her. This singular thought would infect her mind and drive her to convince herself that she had been deluded to think she was somehow still good...
Chase began to apologize and Jack stared at her. She would never know it herself, but that was all she had needed to hear that summer when she had never needed an apology more. Everthing... It was all there, but now it was all just wrong. Jack angry fave remained but her glare was trembling, her mouth quivering. She ran a hand over her face and froze...
Just. Like. Vito.
She whipped around, turning her back on Chase as her hand went to her forehead, clutching it as she began to breathe heavier and heavier... She was losing control, but she had to hold herself together. Chase said she would be in her common room, and Jack ran a shaky hand through her hair. She stared at the wall, her eyes wide and her being hollow. What had she done? What had she become?
At least she knew one difference between her and Vito. She most definitely did not feel like Queen of the World.
