Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Hi site,
So, we've had another great idea, Rolling Eyes and as per requested, i'm discussing it with you all...

Nah, i would've anyway, we try to ask about the big things all the time, it's only small OOC things we don't.

Anyway, to the point.

We, the admins, have noticed something, it's been present for quite awhile, and although it was closed for a few weeks, we've reopened it, and there's no sign of an increase.

What i'm talking about is Activity in Hogwarts, or a distinct lack thereof.

Now, this site is aimed to be a Hogwarts RP, and always has been, having grads was a more recent, side-track for the site. However, as of late it seems to have become a bit more of a central focus, despite our efforts.

So, what're we're thinking is that we want to close the outside world to Students, as Hogwarts was intended to be, so that we can get some more activity into that section of the site.

Either that, or we want to see a massive increase in all of Hogwarts. That section of the forum has everything that is needed for RP, there's common rooms, outdoor areas, places to gather with friends, classes, all that stuff. Realisticly, most of the students seem to limit their RPing to with other students, so i doubt it would limit your pool of people to RP with.

Now, this isn't an announcement to tell you this is happening, but more a warning. If we don't see some increase in Hogwarts. The classes, dorms, great hall, grounds, all that jazz, we may have to resort to going through with this.

If you have any alternatives to this, do share, if you have something to say on the matter, say it, but this is something we, the admins, really want to do.

Honestly, that idea makes me uncomfortable. I understand the reasoning and I fully agree that Hogwarts is not as active as it should be. But there a few things I want to point out.

We did not have a start of term feast, which may have kicked off the new year a bit better, because I know I personally was confused about posting in Hogwarts because I thought there was going to be a feast.

Also we're only a few days in. If two weeks have gone by and its the same people posting, then there may definitely need to be some measures taken to fix it, but people have RL school, so they may not have gotten around to it. I know I have at least 3 classes with 3 charries, so I have over ten classes and I know it may take awhile for people in similar situations to post.

Also, I know Jack's plot centers a lot on life outside of Hogwarts. And to not be able to post outside of Hogwarts would severely mess with a lot of my plans for her, as well as mess with her personality a bit. I think as long as someone is actively posting in Hogwarts, they should enjoy the freedom to post outside of it too.

Perhaps we can work out a deal, like you must post an average of so much in Hogwarts to be able to post outside it, with some leniency for school and RL, of course. Just so people aren't online and posting in Hogsmeade all day long and ignoring Hogwarts. It is a problem that needs to be fixed, but I'm worried that may be a little drastic.

Well, I've been thinking that mainly the whole thing might be due to the fact that mass threads by non-admins, non-mods, etc. are not allowed. However, the Hogwarts dorms and such in the past relied on such topics. If we don't have those mass-topics in the dorms and such, that's probably why the student characters aren't RP'ing in their dorms.

As Jack said, we didn't start the Term Feast, but we also didn't start some other important things in Hogwarts. (i.e. The Sorting Ceremony).

We have to remember that in the books, students rarely ever left Hogwarts...going to Hogsmead was really the only time they got out and that was a privilege. So before you guys start going "oh noes this is totally unfair", you have to remember the admins are bending the canon a little bit by letting you post wherever whenever.

But since it is a RPG, you can always say that your posting during a Hogsmeade weekend or whatever, especially since it would be difficult to justly designate Hogsmeade weekends. If people are abusing the privilege, that's one thing. But we can't just completely pull the rug from underneath a lot of members who need to post outside Hogwarts every now and then.

But i think it should be during summer students get free roam and during school they dont go anywhere except for holiday and to hogsmede during visits. Makes sense and its canon. (wierd i would go for canon right?)

Okies, again, i find it easier just to sort through posts and deal with issues as they arise.

Jack:

I can completely understand the uneasiness, hence why i decided to bring it forth here first, i'm not big on communicating on the mainly OOC stuff, because it tends to affect us, the admins, a lot more than you guys, you know, workloads, etc.

Now, the start of term feast, that one was my mistake entirely, i was going to do it, but i had to think to myself "How would it happen after the train ride, it'd be a bit... iunno, but we'd have to rely a lot on the HM to explain things to you, i suppose.

If you think we can, i will start it ASAP, but i still expect classes to be active while it's on, i just didn't expect people to head the right way with it, i mean, you've just escaped a life or death thing, and a lot of people may just go on as if it never happened. However, get back to me, if you want it, i'll hold it.

And yes, only a few days have passed, however last term it was the same, it's still rather inactive, though we'll see if it lasts, if it does we'll bring in this new rule.

But yes, i do agree with you, some people are good in hogwarts, others aren't, however sometimes some people just ruin it for all.

Yes, i'd be open to a system like that, but how could we monitor how many posts someone does in hogwarts?

We just can't, unless we physically count each post in Hogwarts and out of Hogwarts to sort that out >>

Bri:

I didn't know they'd banned you from making mass threads, what a stupid rules, i've been encouraging people to use mass threads... i hate people who only RP with the sam small group of people all the time, but apparently one of our rules says that you have to... stupid.

However i did make the mass threads, didn't i?

Keith:

Yeah we do bend the canon, but i do like it this way, and we would make some exceptions, we're discussing what those exceptions would be atm...
