Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Complaints and Suggestions Empty Complaints and Suggestions

Post by Chastity Moor Mon Sep 06, 2010 12:01 am

Dear Admins,

Regarding the recent updates, I would like to point out a few complaints of quite a few members on the site. First and Foremost, the new abilities application. It may be that there is a bit confusion on this subject, or that what I'm understanding is correct. As quoted from the Abilities page:

“From now on they will be offered as special rewards.”

Special Rewards is a bit vague, special rewards meaning that they are Admin approved? This does mean that regular members are allowed them? I think that if they are special rewards, it should be made more apparent how to get these abilities, and what the criteria is, not just state they are special rewards.

On that subject, I don't think this is an appropriate way to give out abilities. If there is a problem on all powerful characters, why not make the abilities section a Sickle System item? Abilities, in all rights, can be considered an Out of Character section on the site, seeing as not everyone needs them. The Sickle System, is an Out of Character way to buy and get things. So Abilities are Out of Character, and Sickle System, is out of Character, why not make Abilities under the Sickle System? As a suggestion.

And while I am on the topic of the Sickle System, why, if I may ask, is the Personal Houses under that? I understand what your reasoning is, so that a poor character doesn't live in a large house. But isn't it also true, that if you are new character on the site, and you have a rich character, then you can't afford a large house?

I have not yet seen any evidence of a poor character living in a large house, as most people know what kind of house is appropriate for their character, and giving them limited choices on where they can live, only escalates this problem. As most people won't want to choose that specific house, or have to wait for a long period of time for the house they want to be approved by an Admin. I suggest taking the Personal Houses off of the Sickle System, simply because of unfairness to new characters.

A group of people have been complaining, and this includes myself. A lot of what has been happening feels like an unfairness towards newer members especially. We don't often get to roleplay with the Admins themselves. And we feel this is causing us problems ourselves. There are newer characters who are having problems getting word count, and us non-Admins are having to correct them constantly, with very little Admin help in this issue. I feel like the Admin's are purposefully separating themselves from the newer members, and it is making us feel quite a bit left out in site issues.

Perhaps a large vote for new additions to the site. Such as the abilities and personal houses. As these problems happen to affect personal plots for a large number of characters.

Thank you Chase for coming up with a solution to this imbecilic way of dealing with abilities. Whoever came up with this did not take into account the fact that some plots centre around the abilities of some characters. You’ve all gone completely the wrong way about regulating abilities. Not only is it unfair but it is not acceptable to expect members to completely rebuild their characters and change the way they act because of your pathetic excuses of regulation.

I will point you to the title above all of these red eyesores on the claims section. You may go and scuttle off and change it just to prove me wrong if you wish to be petty and do so but that is entirely up to the admins at hand. Above it reads ‘Inherited Abilities’. Now, these ‘rewards’ are to be handed out are they not for activity, good behaviour, no complaining are they not? Well that’s not right, because unless I’m mistaken and the definition of inherited that I know is wrong then you can’t do that. You can’t hand out inherited abilities because the character is supposed to have them from birth. Hmm...how does that work I wonder? Strange these rules...

This is wrong. I don’t care whatever excuses you throw at myself and Chase, I don’t care and I doubt she does either. This is wrong, illogical and unfair. Shall I take Elijah as an example? With these rules he won’t have his Parseltongue ability. Without that ability he has no chance in hell of talking to his snake which he has done since he was twelve years old when he found her. Now, I’m not going to simply pretend he’s never had that ability – why should I? But then again, why should I have him lose the ability he’s had IC since I created him just because you want to turn that ability and many others into ‘rewards’? No, it’s not going to happen because that changes my character completely and I’m not revamping my character or any of my other characters affected by this nonsense just because you want rewards. Give out sickles as rewards if you want to but you’re not taking away abilities that we as players and they as characters use on a daily basis.

If you truly want to regulate things then do it the way Chase is suggesting. With the sickles you earn by activity, use them as ‘payment’ for your ability. Perhaps even take out a makeshift loan and pay back the amount for the ability as you gain activity. This, I believe, is all I’m going to say on this for the moment because I feel there is only so much that can be said. If you do not like what has been said then that’s fine but take on board the common sense that is being thrown at you for your own sakes not just the site’s.

I think that is a little harsh, especially seeing as you are calling them brats when realy that is not your claim to make. This was addressed to the admins and they are expressing concerns. I found it really rude that you would say something so offensive, when they bring these concerns up in the interest of the site.

I understand that some people do take advantage of the privilege, but the point of the previous system was to keep that from happening, and it should not be changed in a way that would punish people who were not taking advantage of that. This is a HP site and there are special abilities, therefore charries should have access to them. Eli is not asking too much, in my opinion, to be a parseltongue, especially considering that is apart of his characterization...

Number one, don't call anyone spoil brats which isn't nice to call any one names.

People are free to speak their voices, so that doesn't mean they can't complain. They are allow to complain all they want. It doesn't matter if you are black or white or gray or you are in a different country because this is internet world where many of us come freely to role play when ever they want. Everyone is different and we all have different stories to tell.

I've been thinking the same of you, and yet I keep my tongue in check, because I recognize common courtesy as a sign of maturity, as opposed to rattling off anything offensive at the drop of a hat to make others look bad and make yourself look good. I prefer manners personally. And by the way, I don't care what you think, so why would I try to make you think anything?

Guys, I was merely stating my opinion, and I tried to do so in the nicest way possible... I do know quite a lot of people who find the new updates to the abilities unfair, because it is very vague, at least make it a bit more clear on HOW we get these abilities, not just say they are special rewards. There are quite a few characters who have special abilities that are special to their characters, and without that ability, it screws up their plot! I was merely stating another way on how to make it a little bit more fair, cause with the Sickle System, the admins can chose to approve or disapprove the ability if they don't feel the character should have it! But it at least makes it open to anyone who wants one! Not just the ones who get first dibs!

Oh come on, I had people in the real world call people names like spoil brat. So don't judge me, because I have had the kind of experience where a lot of people have called me names. And I am not going to let any one else get hurt.

People can complain all they want, do you understand?

I agree with Chase and Eli very well on this complain.
