A practice duel

Jess smiled and shrugged, watching as the spell missed him, hitting the ground near his legs. "Nice try," he muttered, point his wand at her. "So tell me? Do you have any hobbies?" he asked, smiling Curiously. True, Dueling was an art form, and he found that often it was much simpler to find out your opponents background, and play it to their advantage.

"Ictus," Jess said calmly, aiming for Caelani's torso

Okay, Jess you made a couple of mistakes, but that's okay; we can leave this up as an example thread afterwards:

1. A dodge or a miss is the same as being hit. You don't subtract it from your defence, you add 1 to your hit counter instead.

2. In duelling, you always deal in whole numbers. If your calculation comes to decimal, you round up, so if you did decide to defend, you'd use 5, not 4.5, to defend.

3. You can ONLY use the starter spells written in the Handbook (I'll put them in a different thread so they're easier to find) until you level up to gain new spells. Duelling in S&S isn't the same as fighting everywhere else on the site.

4. Your final tally should read:

21 - 0 (miss) = 21
1 hits
whatever spell your character casts


You can edit the tally, but your dice roll will remain the same ('cause it's technically in a different post)

Ok, no worries, that's not as bad as i was expecting. Continue from here on in, you can use the same dice roll can't you?

Caelani was immediately on guard. Not particularly because Jess was asking questions - it was natural to chat while you were duelling - but because there was a possibility she would incriminate herself.

Oh yes, I kill people in my spare time, when I'm not turning them to stone. How did they find you, by the way? Perhaps not.

"These are my hobbies. I was always very sporty when I was in school, and it's so fulfilling to be able to make a profession of something you love," she replied.

"Obsidio," she blocked his spell easily.

This time, she cast the same spell back at him. See how he liked a taste of his own medicine, hmm?

Jess nodded, a fair answer, and a decent hobby it was, he'd like to spend his spare time duelling, and training his skills up, but he was normally preoccupied with fighting evil, and other fun, fun things in the line of profession. "Obsidio," he muttered, flicking his wand and watching the spell disipate into the shield. "Tremulus," he then cast, flicking his wand at Caelani, then pivoting forward on one leg he waved his wand again. "Ictus," he shouted, hoping to throw her off guard

Caelani was momentarily thrown. Jess had shouted two spells, but only cast the one. She had no idea which it was, though. Not wanting to be hit by something horrid, she had no choice but to block.

"Clever," she complimented him. "Have you ever tried this?"

Covering her mouth with her other hand, she whispered the incantation into her palm as she cast the spell toward her opponent.

"Just as duplicitous and twice as effective."
