Khaat very gently picked up Dakota from Miseria's arms, not wanting to wake either Miseria or Dakota. "Thank you, Daddy," Khaat said in a near whisper.
"They're fine, you know," Robert reminded her. "I'll take you home after you drop Dakota off at the nursery. That will give me time to leave last minute orders with the healers."
"Very well," Khaat said. She took Dakota to the nursery where a healer changed Dakota's name band on her wrist so it said Dakota Lupin now. She watched the healer put the baby in its bassinet and cover her for the night, congratulating Khaat on her first grandchild.
Robert picked up Khaat and took her to Brian's, where Brian had a sandwich ready for her and a muggle soda with ice. Khaat wasn't hungry, but Brian insisted she eat. He had said that an owl had arrived to Khaat's message she had sent to Hogwarts, saying that Miseria's things would be sent to Khaat's office first thing in the morning. Brian told Khaat had had added a second crib to Abbey's room and had magically enlarged the room so that it was larger. He took Khaat upstairs to see. Dakota's crib matched Abbey's. He had magically duplicated some of Abbey's toys but in different colors.
Khaat conjured an outfit for Dakota to wear home. It was a long crochetted lacy pink dress with short sleeves and a matching long crochetted coat, wth matching booties and a hat. The pieces were all trimmed with pink satin ribbon and ribbon roses. It was very elegant and as soft as silk. She also conjured a beautiful baby blanket that a summer weight blanket that looked like it had been hand knit in a slightly open stitch, and was done in baby pastels, in a stripe pattern. She wanted her granddaughter to have the very best. No less than what Abbey had had. Nothing was too good for her daughters and her granddaughter. She hoped Miseria would like how beautiful the "going home outfit" was and how rich and expensive it looked.
Khaat got a few hours of sleep and rose again, showered, and went shopping for Miseria. She bought some summer weight pajamas, two different pairs, and a short length cool summer robe in a refreshingly cool french terry fabric, along with a pair of summer slippers. She had bought a small overnight bag for Miseria and had bought her a summer shower products in a light summery coconut lime scent--shower gel, body lotion, body mist. She tucked in shampoo and conditioner, and every other personal product she could think of, along with a couple of books that the clerk in the Diagon Alley bookshop had told her he had seen Miseria consider purchasing over and over but had not wanted to buy for herself. She wanted Miseria to have something to do that she enjoyed. She also bought some of Mis' favorite magazines and tucked those in, along with Mis's favorite candies from Honeydukes. Then, as a final thought she put in some wizarding photographs for her of Dakota--Dakota's first photograph that St. Mungo's had taken, along with a copy of Dakota's handprints and footprints. She put in pictures of Abbey for her, and of Robert, Katherine and herself so that Miseria had pictures of her current family. She also had bought Miseria a baby book so Mis could keep track of Dakota's first year of life and a beautiful gold pen to go along with it.
Then she remembered she had a gift that she had been working on for months that had just come--from Transylvania. She had gotten them from the Transylvanian wizarding ministry. Wizarding photographs of Mis's biological mother and father. 4 photos--one of her mother, one of her father, and one of them together, and the final one was a family photo just before Mis had come to Hogwarts. It was the best she could do. That was all the ministry had in the family's file. But she liked how the pictures were smiling, and how much love they showed to Miseria in the family photo. Khaat had assembled all the photos she was giving to Mis in a little photograph album so that they were all together.
She had bought a gift for Dakota too, and it looked a lot like a gift that she had gotten from Jessica Black Heart for Abbey. It was a magical, white stuffed kitty with an adorable face. The kitty was charmed so that it would detect the baby's moods. When it was happy, it sang cheerfully. When the baby was sad, it sang lovingly. When the baby was tired, it sang a lullabye. Abbey seemed to love hers, so Khaat bought one for Dakota, had wrapped it up, addressed it to Dakota, and signed it "From Grandma with love."
She took the things and took them to St. Mungo's the next morning and went up to Mis's room. She didn't know if Mis was awake yet or not. As she approached the room, she saw that a female healer was taking in a huge bouquet of red roses to Mis, along with a beautiful bunch of foil balloons that danced magically about 4 foot up in the air above the roses, without strings. Khaat loved wizard balloons. She loved that they had no strings and could fly on their own. And they were always exceptionally more beautiful than muggle balloons. A second healer, a young man, standing next to her watched the balloons and flowers being delivered. "Your mother and father sent those to her," the healer commented. "I think she will like them," Khaat smiled. She took the overnight bag and her brightly wrapped gifts and went to Mis's doorway, not wanting to wake her if she were still sleeping.
