Khaat reached down to pet the she wolf walking alongside her. "You look as lost as I feel, Girl," she petted the wolf, knowing the wolf could not understand her human words. I wish I knew what you said to my mother, but I don't talk to animals like she does."
"She seems to have taken a liking to you, Khaat," Brian smiled. He reached over and petted the wolf and for a moment he almost felt like he could feel a protective instinct coming from her. But animals were not his strong suit. He didn't know how he was picking up on it or even if he was. "Are you going to help me take care of her, Girl? I can always use another hand--or should I say, another paw? I swear, Khaat, for a second, I got the impression she wants to protect you."
"Hm.. Maybe she is. Maybe it was something that either Steven or my mother said to her. I try to just take whatever comes when it comes to living with someone who can talk to animals. A lot less embarressing surprises that way. Oh, and you have to completely ignore that they will keep secrets."
"I'll remember that," he laughed.
