"I should have taken a picture of you as a little yellow duck. Are you sure I can't change you back long enough for a picture for posterity's sake?" she asked, laughing, already knowing he'd want not part of that. "You were sooo cute. Andrew would enjoy playing with you as a duck, I'm sure. You should have seen him, Jess. He was adorable."
"Who was adorable?" Brian asked, coming in and heading for the kitchen for a cold drink.
"Jack was," Katherine said, "When Khaat changed him into a little yellow duck."
Brian looked at Jack, raising his eyebrows a little. "You? A lilttle baby duck? Now that's something I would have loved to have seen. You'll have to tell me what that was like. I do know what its like to be at the wrong end of that woman's wand though," Brian laughed. "Remus trained us well. What was that you changed me into when we were eleven, Khaat?"
"A snail," Khaat said.
"Oh, yes," he laughed. "But as I recall it was a blue snail. You couldn't get my color right. Took Remus to undo it."
"Well, I changed you back at least," she defended herself.
"Yeah, but you left me blue. You got the morphing thing right, but you left me stuck being blue until Remus undid it," he laughed.
"Wasn't your hair a bit strange too?"
"Oh, yeah. Purple if I recall. Thanks for reminding me about that little embarressment as well," he said sarcastically.
"Did no one ever turn you into anything, Khaat?" her mother frowned. "I've not heard about these little transfiguration adventures."
"Ah, well, Remus changed me into a cat once just for the experience of it. But he at least made me a pretty cat. Sort of tortoiseshell colored," Khaat said. "And he also turned me into a bluebird once so I could experience flying. But I don't remember much else. I think everyone else was just afraid of Daddy. Remus really didn't care a jot about all of Daddy's threats. He sort of blew Daddy off."
"Remus blew your father off a lot where you were concerned," Katherine laughed. "And you loved every moment of it."
"Yes," Khaat smiled, with fond memories of her beloved uncle. "I did. And so did Remus. I wonder what he'd have thought of Abbey."
"Didn't you say you showed it to his portrait, Dear?"
"I did. He thought she was beautiful."
"Well, then. You have your answer. He'd have loved her. And by now, she'd be so spoiled that he would be the only one who could do a darned thing with her," Katherine said. Khaat laughed.
