Jess lay sleeping on the bed she had slipped out of her day clothes and into something warmer, a simply unflattering flannelette night shirt witch showed her rounded belly to its fullest. Her hair now cascading over her shoulders as she lay on the pillow, but her eyes flickered, her sleep was not restful as the nightmare that had troubled her returned.
The sheet slipped over her as she moved, the babies inside her visibly kicking out. But she did not wake, instead moved from one side to the other as her dream plagued her. Dark shadows and visions of faces past before her in her mind, she could hear screams from where, she could not tell. Then she realized it was her own screams she heard. Her hands gripped the sheets as sweat formed on her brow her eyes still tightly shut. Soon her body arched as if tortured by some unseen torturer and her face contorted in unseen pain as she writhed on the bed as if in total agony.
In Jess’s mind she now saw the darkness , but instead of bringing calm and solitude. She felt the pain of a thousands cuts all over her body, from the back of her legs, to her arms. But not her belly that remained untouched, as if protected by some spell. She lashed out, her arms flailing in the darkness, at who she didn’t know. but wanting to stop the pain that now ravaged her in her mind. “No!!!” she cried out “Stop this, No!!!” Her voice now filled with the pain she felt. “Why me?” She screamed then she heard it a voice, as if inside her head it spoke softly “Because we can” It said softly as she screamed again. An image came to her of jack, he stood looking at her, calling her name, as if searching for her. Then he turned away the look of sadness that sat on his face one she would never forget. “Jack, please no, I’m here, help me!!!!” She once more screamed as the sensation of burning and cutting continued, so did her screaming not just in her mind but as she lay on the bed in Khaats home.
