"Well, that could be a very, very long time, my love," she said very softly. She took a sip of her coffee and sighed contentedly.
"Um, by the way, I have a temporary guest. " She spoke calmly and steadily. "She's a young girl named Emily Brown. She was living on the streets, and this is not a time for young girls to be penniless and homeless. She's looking for her aunt. I told her I would find help her find her aunt and reunite them.
"There is a slight inconvenience in that, however, that you should be aware of. I had to get Vincent Majere to tell me where the aunt works. He thinks I owe him now. He will get nothing from me, but he believes he will. I'm quite positive he will try to use me, but I did know that was coming. No one else but you knows about this odd little chess game he seems to be playing with me. I wanted you to know so you can keep yourself and help me keep the kids safe if it would ever come to that. Just so you know--I'm not afraid of him. He mistakenly seems to think I have some sort of worth to him, although I have no idea why. And as long as he believes that, I think we're safe. But I will kill him if I have to--so you know."
