"Look at Sam being all mature," Marcus smiled as he spoke to Jack. "He can be such a little boy at times, but when he needs to, he can man up. He's going to be a first stinger someday, and I reckon he'll be a good one."
Sam was not exactly grumbling at Anise all the way back to the house but he was doing his best to set her straight. Sam believed that Angus's devotion to family was stronger than his own drive to survive. Sam believed that if push came to shove, Angus would die for any one of them a hundred times over than to lose a one of them., and Sam believed it with his whole being. He wasn't going to even try to explain it or reason it with Anise. He only insisted that Angus wasn't blowing anything off.
The minute they came inside Sam glared at her, a silent look that warned her to shut the heck up and not start a freaking thing.
"You need to go shower. Now," Sam told her in a very soft tone, but he meant business. She narrowed her eyes at him but he wasn't budging. She finally turned and flew down the stairs to go shower.
"She's still irked, is she?" Angus asked.
"Yeah, but now she's irked more with me than with you, and I'm good with it. I'm not going to let her just keep spewing vitriol at you. You don't deserve it, because honestly she's really not even angry with you anyway."
"I know," Angus smiled. "She's irked that this stuff just keeps coming. We're all irked about that. And this whatever-it-was that the seers saw today jarred her. I get it. She'll cool off eventually. But thank you. Thanks for taking such good care of her. You're good for her, Sam."
"I wanna always be good for her," Sam said.
"As long as you want to be, you will be," Angus said. "Go get some dessert. Rubys' orange bars are really good."
"Yeah,. I will but I really want some almond tea with mine. I think I'll brew myself a cup of that first."
"Good idea. Its a good thing to mellow out with after a confrontation," Angus smiled, slightly amused, knowing Sam was just a little ruffled after dealing with Anise's hostility.
"Angus, answer me one thing. You gonna be ready for her?"
"For Pearl? Hell, yeah. As ready as any of us can be," Angus said.
"Good enough," Sam said. "That's all I needed to know." He headed for the kitchen.
