After class Maddie had wandered down into the grounds, her feet carried her in the direction of the quidditch pitch, almost as if it had a gravitational pull on her. The sun was warm on her face as she approached the field. This was the second happiest place on earth, the first was probably when she was playing the piano. The music would just carry her away. She loved the feel of flying, the wind in her hair, the sun on her face, like she could go anywhere. It felt free. Mads like free. But, today she wasn’t there to fly, she had left her broom in the common room and wasn’t going back to get it. Also the school brooms sucked, veering off to the side as they pleased.
She wandered out into the middle of the field and took her cloak off. Laying it in the grass she used it in place of a blanket laying on top of it. There were big white puffy clouds in the sky that drifted lazily as she lay there. Maddie admired the clouds and tried to determine what each looked like. One was a salamander with wings, or maybe a baby dragon, and another was a centar,. Maddie closed her eyes and let her mind wander, her thoughts drifting towards her family. She missed them terribly, but knew that attending Hogwarts was necessary for her to achieve her dreams. Her father had always wanted her to become a musician, but Maddie yearned for something more. She wanted adventure, excitement, and magic.
As she lay there, lost in thought, she heard footsteps approaching. Maddie opened her eyes and sat up looking in the direction of the sound of crunching grass under foot.
