Angus then went over to see Edward. He found Edward sitting outside near the garden, at a little bistro table set. He had opened a bottle of wine from his wine cellar and was sipping a glass of perfectly chilled vintage merlot.
"Where's your other half tonight?" Angus asked.
"Ah, well, her granddaughter, it seems, has been offered a child's part in the Paris Opera Ballet's production of Sleeping Beauty. It is apparently a significant role, and tonight is the dress rehearsal. Tomorrow night is the opening performance, so apparently I will be going to the opera in Paris tomorrow night to see Lena's daughter dance. She's eight, but I understand she really is quite good, and I presume she must be to get a part in the French national opera company's production."
"Good for you. Send her our best, will you?"
"Certainly. So what's on your mind?"
"Anise and Ginger," he said. "If I take these additional two on, I have to sign for guardianship of them too."
"Yes. I did understand that would be a given. And they're hesitant about including Ruby only because they don't really know her."
"Correct," he said.
"Well, first of all, I believe Ruby would be the first to understand that a decent parent isn't going to sign custody of their daughters over to just any old stranger. I do think she might agree to get to know them, though, too. And I think she'd be the first to understand that Fenrir is chomping at the bit to get his pack home where they feel they belong. I really think she'd get all of that."
"Well, certainly," Angus said. "But I'm becoming an instant dad to five kids, though."
"Yes," Edward laughed. "Sounds like you need a glass." He accio'd a wine glass and poured him some. "Have a drink, 'Dad.' So, as I see it, because time is of the essence, Anise needs to move in with Simone and me for now while you either build a room in the basement for the girls or put an addition onto your house."
"Or kick my boys out in three weeks," he sighed.
"No. Not happening," Edward said. "I realize they will be adults and the girls will not. But their dad was no sort of father figure at all. They need you. They need a father figure to grow them up to be decent guys and to teach them to be fighters, since that's what they want to do. Tylers chuck people out. Donohues add people. That's how its done, Son. We make room. We add rooms or whatever we need to do. Just sign the bloody papers, and get their things. We'll make up the rest as we go. Now, give me that baby. Its my turn." Edward took Caprice from Angus.
"How are her motor skills coming?"
"Pretty good," Angus said. "Ruby's doing the first time mom thing. If she could stitch her to her, she would. I understand that's what she thinks she has to do, but I really want her to stop carrying her everywhere and start putting her on the floor for some tummy time so she can start rolling over and learning to hold up her head and some of those things. She's a month old now. Its time."
"Give Ruby time to adjust," Edward said. "She'll do what's right for the baby. If you start it, she'll follow along. It'll be alright. Drink your wine. It helps." Edward looked at him and laughed. "Someday you'll have a hundred grandkids and great grandkids and then you'll find out how little some of these tiny things really are in the scope of it all. Ruby gets anxious about a lot of things. And you get stressed sometimes that she gets anxious. She has Jeffrey, and you just need more wine." Angus laughed and took a sip of his wine.
"God, that tastes like home," Angus said quietly.
"Because it's from home."
"That's because its from our winery," Edward said. "Drink up. There's more where that came from."
