Robert wasn't sure he understood why Jack decided to send Ruby with Michael. That meant they were now down three fighters instead of just two, but this was Jack's to command, and he had to let Jack make his own choices.
Michael had ported them back to Robert's farm. Angus was livid, but Michael couldn't leave the rest of the team.
"Kate!" Michael shouted. "I'm going back. Marcus! Can you come? We're short of fighters."
"On my way, Mate," Marcus shouted. He raced down the steps, still wet from a shower, putting on a polo shirt and shoving his wand into his pocket.
"Pistol," Kate told him, slapping a pistol and an extra clip into Marcus's hand. "And spare clip."
"Bless you," he smiled, shoving the pistol in his waistband and the clip in his pocket. Mira and Gabe came from nowhere.
"Can we help?" Gabe asked.
"Grab a gun and a clip," Michael said.
"Need bait?" Khaat asked, coming downstairs and picking up a gun and a clip.
"Only if you stay in the house," Michael said. "We'll let Jack know, and if he needs you to be bait, he'll do it, I'm sure. Port yourself to your father. He's in the house." She used her medallion to port herself to the house into the kitchen.
"Kate, Angus is out for tonight, unless we send for him. Take good care of him, won't you? His mother is now gone too. Edward had no choice," Michael said.
"She might be gone but Team Mama Kate is still here," Kate said. "I've got this. He'll be fine." Marcus and Gabe and Mira all ported back to Tuscany with Michael and out into the yard beside Brian and Edward.
"Got a nice piece of James' bait in the kitchen if you need it, Jack," Michael said quietly to Jack, deliberately being a bit cryptic but knowing that Jack was fully aware that there really was only one thing that ever worked as bait for James. Jack would completely understand what Michael was saying.
"Oh, good. Hunting," Mira said with a quiet fierceness.
"Stay close, Kiddo," Marcus told her, not wanting to lose a kid in a werewolf fight. "Just say the word, Jack."
