LONDON CALLING

Jck looked at Robert and noded " got some of the wolves organised into a scouting party, there just as curiouse as we are at what or who the fowl smell is." Jack said taking abite of the chicken and smiling " delisuious jess" he said.

Jessie sat and ate his food quietly, Taking a bread roll he broke it and ate. " Might take a look my self later. couldn't help have a fresh pair of eyes take a look, Im glad Archangels doing better." He pored some juice and took a sip listening to the others talking around him. "You don't think he could have scouts around here, checking out the area?" Jessie sugested looking at them all.

Jack sighed and looked at Robert. " it is a possibility, wouldn't put it past him to try a direct assault again." Robert said keeping the details as short as possible so not to scare Abby. " Oh I belive Jess made red berry paie for after with Ice cream."

Jessie chuckled as he continued to eat " Im gonna have to pass on desert, I should get out on patrol, i'll try and not cross the wolf pack if I cross paths with them." he said finshing and excusing himself from the table. Placing his plate in the sink he headed out the door accioing his jacket as he went and slipping it on.

(is jessie going over to Brian's for patrol, or is he staying at the farm to patrol? just not sure.)

"We do have a couple owls at the ready, Robert," Kate said, "but they're here, not at Brian's. I could take them over, I suppose, but, of course, they're better at night."

"Well, it might need both. Brian's estate is so large, of course, that it could take awhile to get through all of it," Robert said, "And it certainly is possible that James is sneaking back onto Brian's land. He's done it before. I've tried to strengthen the unplottable spell but he could have found some way to work around it, I suppose. I'm sure Brian's done his best to secure the house so that even if James does get through all that, he can't get into the house."

"The protections you put on the house have always held," Kate said to Robert. "He's never been able to penetrate them. Not that he hasn't tried. Do we have reason to think he'll get through now?"

"No," Robert said. "I just don't like letting my guard down where he is concerned. "Underestimating him could be a critical mistake."

"I've not know of you to often underestimate any enemy," Kate replied. "I'll brew some fresh tea to go with the pie, in case someone wants some."

"No, and I don't intend to start now," he said. "There's a tin of the chocolate raspberry tea in the cabinet if you'd like to try that one. I just put it in there yesterday."

"What do you think, Jess?" Kate asked. "Chocolate raspberry or black tea?"

Jack nodded " yeah got to be a large animal and not my brother." he said with a soft growl as he watched Jessie leave for the patroll around the farm. " that aint going to take him long" Jack said Jessie cleared the dinner plates and brought out several bowls and the pie with fresh made ice cream.

"well heres for those who want it." She said it was now a message arived for Robet, she walked to the floo and picked it up walking abck to the table. "Its for you from St Mungos." she said and placed it down next to his bowl. " Musn't be all that important as they would have sent some one to fetch you." she said dishing up the desert into the bows and adding the home made Ice cream on top.

Kate made sure Abbey had pie and ice cream, and she dished some up for Robert and herself too, with fresh tea. Robert opened the message that arrived from St. Mungos.

"Oh. Just a new hire. They've hired on a new bloke. Looks like he'll be on day shift tomorrow. I can meet him when I go in. At least they're sending me notice now. I prefer that as to finding some stranger working A&E and just helping themselves to the potions. That always gives me a bit of a turn until I figure out who they are."

"Does Jessie know that you have protection spells here too?" Kate asked.

"I presume so," Robert said. "Why do you ask?"

"He's taking himself pretty seriously."

"Ah. Well, apparently he has had a reputation, off and on, of needing a bit of polish. He'll be fine. He's just trying to sort himself out, that's all. It's fine for an auror to have some rough edges. After all, Mad Eye had more rough edges than not, and he was a legend in his own time and that legend still lives on. One of the best things I can do for Jessie right now is to give him some space to adjust. He's got a lot of new things going on--the curse, the move to a different country, having no roots here, no friends or family, new job."

"It's a fresh start," she said.

"Yes, and some of it isn't the easiest thing to live with."

"We're talking about the curse now."

"Yes."

"Well, he's better with us than with any other wizarding family. At least, he's accepted and understood here," she said.

"I think that is precisely what Lee had in mind," Robert said. He glanced down to see how Abbey was doing with her pie and saw her face and hands and her shirt were covered with red berry pie filling and crumbs of pie crust. "Well, you're a right mess," he frowned. "Might have to take you outside and take the garden hose to you." Abbey nodded, eating the pie with her fingers.

Jessie sat down and ate her own pie and ice cream. Jack nodded " I know that feeling, well some of it , never been without family, except my brother he can rot in..the basement" Jack corrected himself.

Seeing Abby covered in berry pie he chuckled as did Jess " or..we can run a warm bubble bath to wash off the sticky berry juice." Jess said knowing that was a better option " then after we can get into warm clean PJ's and I or Kate can read you a story" she said slipping a little more pie into Abbys bowl. with a chuckle and a soft shushh. Jack chuckled at Jess.

"if hes that rough around the edges he'l need us to train him the right way, thats where we all come into it, me coz of our curse, I understand the bad and the good that comes with it and the other stuff comes with time." He said stuffing another peice of pie into his mouth and eating it practicaly in one go.Now Done Jack saw Jessie walk back in his boots muddy and held in his hands as was his butt. " ha tried the assault course again?"

Jessie nodded at Jack's words " yea, can't get past that mud pit part." he said placing his shoes down by the door. " if its all right I'll wash up and clean my boots once Im done."

"You're better off with Jess tonight," Robert told her, teasing. "I'd have you out in the garden with the hose, and it's cold tonight."

"Swim!" Abbey said.

"Papa will buy you a pool, my sweet," Kate told her.

"I'll buy her what?" Robert frowned.

"We've got the land. You need to put in a decent pool for her to swim in. Her Labrador side isn't going to do a kiddie pool. You need to put in a proper one."

"She has a huge pool at home," Robert said, still frowning.

"Yes, and she wants one here too, so you're going to put one in," Kate said.

"We don't need...." Robert began. "Oh never mind..." He saw Jessie come back in covered in mud. "And there's someone else who needs a garden hose. Maybe I should send them together. Don't you show him how to handle the mud pit, Jack. Let him figure it out. He'll get it."

Jessie looked some what perplexed from Jack to Robert and back " oh, no, that reminds me when I was s small as Abby. momma would hose us down in the summer after we'd been out digging in the fresh dug feilds around our home." Jessie spoke with fondness in his voice and smiled " Abby I think a shower sounds much warmer and plesant." he told her and headed to the room he'd been given.

"oh did I say I was going to help him...naa much more fun watching him figure it out himself, as you say Robert." Jack laughed then face palmbed himself " but then I have to run it myself and figure it out too." Jack said looking at Jess who shook her head and smiled.

"Well you both can figuer it out together, you know help each other." she said and Jack nodded. " So whos the new guy?" she asjed Robert, he'll be a hugh help since were short staffed right now. Jess stood up and grabbed a cloth to wipe Abbys hands and face clean while Jack placed the dishes into the washer.

"Well, looks like you two have a common problem. Could be good for both of you," Kate said to Jack.

"All I have is a name," Robert told Jess, handing her the note. "Kaden Phoenix. That's all I know except he's a healer. I'm sure his file will be on my desk when I go in. I presume he knows his stuff or they wouldn't be putting him on without my being notified that he needed a bit of training up. We can always use another good healer on staff, though, so I'll be anxious to get to know him tomorrow."

"If you go in," Kate said.

"And why wouldn't I?" he asked.

"Have you looked in a ruddy mirror lately? This insomnia really does have to stop. You're starting to look like death warmed over."

"I'm not that handsome anyway, if you haven't noticed. I'm not worried yet. It'll pass. It always does. I'm going downstairs." He got up and headed downstairs to his potions lab, leaving the library door open. That would mean the lab door would be open too. That either meant he was working on a potion or he'd gone further down into the weapons room.

"Sometimes i don't know what to do with him," Kate sighed, frustrated.

Jess sighed hearing Robert talk about himself in the negative " Im sure he'll be better after some one figures out how to get him to sleep." she said sat and thought about the name " I might pop over to St Mungos and check him out myself, get an impreshion of how he actually is." she said smiling at Kate " beside I have early shift tomorrow with Robert and Khaat."

Jack laughed as he heard Robert and nodded " yeah we do, its a good thing." he added " oh another newbie?" He asked hearing the mans name " weird name, but then I guess so's mine." He watched as Jess finished wiping Abby and picked her up.

"Okay Abby bubble time." Jess said gently tickling Abby's tummy as she walked her to the playroom bathroom " oh and I vito the pool for here, be good for every one in the summer to have a place to excerise, might help with the inssomnia too." she added opening the door to a room filled with toys but all neatly placed on shelves or in toy boxes.

Robert went down to the weapons room. He had been working on making up some explosives. He wanted to have some little surprises for James the next time he showed up, and Robert was certain that sooner or later James would show up. He gathered the ingredients. He wanted some that were about the size of a squash ball. He had some long torn strips of black fabric and he had formulated a bit of a magical bubble that he could fill with a magical exploding powder and then, if he wrapped the bubbles with a fabric that had an incendiary spell on them, when the balls were thrown and they made contact, they would explode and catch fire. Their small size would make it easy for operatives to carry some in their pockets. It might be useful for being distractions and for helping them get out of a tight situation just by them throwing one and causing chaos.

He took his supplies over to a worktable and sat down to work, yawning. He was tired but not sleepy. And he wanted these ready. He hadn't been at work more than about 20 minutes when all of a sudden, the explosive powder he had been working on went unexpectedly bad and blew. All Robert saw was a flash of light and heard a huge boom. Then it all went black.
