Jess turned to face Darren, following Professor Jasper's instructions. "We're studying Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration. The two exceptions we've covered already are Humans, and Food. Neither of which can be conjured, or changed," He whispered, knowing that if professor Jasper got mad, he'd be able to explain he'd been told to.

Darren frowned at Jess, having the urge to tell him to just shut up, but it would probably make him lose points. Since the teacher had asked him directly, he doubted he really needed to raise his hand. "Well the three principal exceptions to Gamps Law are Love, Food and Life." he answered, not totally sure.

Jess frowned, a touch annoyed with Darren. He was only doing what the teacher'd told him to after all. But he wasn't as annoyed with that as he was with the fact he'd used two of his examples

Mariana still had her hand raised with a ready answer looking at Darren who almost shouted the answer.

"I apologize Mr. Riddle," said Alexi. "But you already named two exceptions that were said in class, and the third exception, love, is not an exception of transfiguration, but an exception of magic itself." He sighed and looked around the room. He knew that before Darren said the answer, there were a couple of people that had raised their hands. Because of his attention towards Darren, he didn't exactly remember who raised their hand first so he just picked at random. "Ms. Diggory?" said Alexi, hinting that he wanted an answer from Mariana.

"Principal Exceptions to Gamp's Law; some are food and love. Food may be multiplied once a real food object is actually in hand, but cannot be created from nothing. Love cannot be created; it can only be imitated through a Love Potion or the Imperius Curse, in which case it resembles an obsessive infatuation.

Life does not seem to be an exception, as birds can be created using the spell Avis and flowers with Orchideous. Gold can be created through use of the Philosopher's Stone. Leprechauns may create objects that look like gold or money, but which will, in time, change back to dead leaves or dirt; it is merely an illusion or transfiguration. The Gemino Curse may also cause the illusion of created gold, as was witnessed in the Lestrange Vault at Gringotts in 1998. However, this was a curse placed on the real, existing gold and would multiply any object it was cast upon, not necessarily gold." said Mariana a longer version: "I know about Love,Food,Life and Gold.but I never heard of 5th ine." she said as a conclusion to all she said.

"Sorry Ms.Diggory," said Alexi. "You were off the mark." He looked at Sophia, who also had her hand up. "Ms. Granger? Would you like to give it a try?" So far, everyone seemed to make the same mistakes repeatedly. There were exceptions to Gamp's Laws of Elemental Tranfiguration, but everyone seemed to mistake it for exceptions to magic as a whole. Emotions in general, not just love, are intangible, and transfiguration has to do only with tangibles. Gold was close to one of the exceptions, but it was merely an example of the exception, not the exception itself. Saying that life was not an exception was obviously not an exception to Gamp's Law - although it is partly an exception.

Mariana looked confused as she actually read in the book what she just said.

Ami still had her hand up, she waited for Soph to answer, she thought she might know the answer.

Darren thrust his hand back up to give it another go, he couldnt believe he had gotten a question wrong.
