Friends and water friends

It was a Saturday afteroon, and Athena was bored out of her mind thinking of what to do with her spare time. As crazy as it seems, Athena was already done with her homework seeing how she had nothing to else to do. Looking at the ceiling Athena started drawing things with firey sparks that came out of her wand. "Ugh... I'm going crazy!"Athena to herself as she gotten up from her bed and grabbed her Gryffindor robe and scarf before heading out. It was no longer summer time the wind gotten nippy during the coruses of the day, Athena found that out the hard way last week. 

Walking down the sloping lawn of Hogwarts School of of Witchcraft and Wizardly Athena headed down towards the lake. After a few minutes she finally reached the lake and smiled happily as she sat underneath the willow tree. As the giant squid came up she smiled at him. "Hello, last time we tried talking we were interrupted by kids throwing rocks at you."said Athena softly. "I know how you feel, I used to get beaten up all the time to at my muggle school by bullies."said Athena softly as the giant squid blinked at her. Looking around Athena seen that no one was really out by the lake. They were probably at Hogsmeade which was a place Athena really didn't go to. 

"I had a pretty good week, but you probably had a bad one, but I did meet a nice guy name Vaughn "said Athena softly. "I know what your thinking, a you made a friend at last? I wouldn't believe it either."said Athena softly. Athena know it was crazy for her to talk to a squid but he always talked back to her in his own language, a bit weird but Athena had a way with animals.

Vaughn walked out of the castle yawning having not gotten much sleep again. It seemed like everyone was trying to catch up on lost time and were whispering to each other all night. He groaned as he walked along the forest picking up pieces of wood every now and then. He had his carving tools with him and wanted to sit near the lake to do so.

Upon nearing the lake he heard a girl talking and recognized the voice immediately. He saw her sitting under the willow tree near the edge of the lake and grinned. Seeing the Squid surface near her and her talk to it he grinned more. Walking out of the tree line after hearing her words about him, he still grinned.

"He seems to like you," Vaughn said gesturing towards the squid. Looking at the squid he smiled, "Looks like you've grown more bud." He went and sat down next to Athena. He rubbed his eyes as he looked out across the lake. "It's peaceful out here," He said taking out his carving knife and looking at the piece of wood in his hands like he was trying to see what it could become.

Athena was to busy talking to the squid she didn't know that Vaughn had even came down until she heard his voice. Athena laughed. " I guess you could say that, I come out here and talk to him alot, believe it or not he's a good listener. " said Athena. Athena looked at Vaughn and frowned at him, he looked like he didn't get much sleep. " Didn't get much sleep either? " Athena asked him as she let out a small yawn. " I didn't either, the girls in my dorm were quite giggly last night, quite annoying in all honesty when you want to sleep. " said Athena.  


" So...did you have a good first week back Vaughn? I haven't talked to you since the train ride here,how you been?"Athena asked him. As the squid seeing that she had someone to talk to and went back down, Athena waved bye to him. " Thanks for talking to me buddy, see you later. " said Athena. " Why didn't you go to Hogsmeade Vaughn? It's Hogsmeade weekend you, I didn't want to go there, not really fun when you're by yourself you know. " said Athena quietly. " Guess it's no one's fault but mine for being so shy. " said Athena sighing. 


Seeing some wood in his hands she grew interested in what he was making. " What are you making there Vaughn? "Athena asked him curiously. " I can't make things out of wood, but I can draw and sketch things, I'm alright at it. " said Athena. Athena liked to draw and sketch things, it got her mind off of things, it made her escape into a world that was completely her ow.

"Yeah he only surfaces occasionally for me. Mostly it's when I have a treat for him," Vaughn said laughing softly remembering the one time he had a treat for the giant squid. "No the boys were chatting like girls, no offense. They were whispering, well more like talking loudly in hushed tones. About five in the morning I got up and went to common room to finish homework then ended up sleeping with my face in my books." He sighed as he ran his hand down his face in effort to wake himself up.
 
"Yeah thankfully no one has so far started rumors about me. Though they might start soon if I can't get sleep at night, they'll start saying I'm a vampire or a zombie. Well if they say that I'll just tell them I only eat smart people brains," He said with a wicked grin. "I've been good besides sleep deprived. How have you been?" He waved bye to the Squid as it slid back underneath the black surface of the lake. "I didn't feel like going to Hogsmeade it seems like mostly groups of friends or couples go down there. Maybe next time we can go visit just to get out of the castle." He yawned with his hand over his mouth. "Sorry I think that yawning is going to be an all day thing."

"I don't know yet, I'm trying to figure out what to make. During the summer I made a chess set for my father when he gets better." He said remembering he had kept his brother busy all summer so he wouldn't worry about everything. "My father taught me how to widdle wood which is to me a lot easier than sketching or drawing." He got an idea in his head about what to do with the wood and began carving into it with the knife slowly. "Maybe you can show me some of your drawings and I'll show you some of the carvings I've done. I have pictures of them back in the castle."

Athena laughed softly. " Well...what creature would come up if they smelled food? "Athena asked him in a teasing voice. " Although he probably doesn't come up much due to people throwing rocks at him, he isn't going to hurt you, he's actually quite friendly I think. " said Athena honestly. " No offense taken, I know how chatty we girls can be, trust me I know more then you'll ever know! "said Athena rolling her eyes. " Ouch! I did that once, my face stuck to the books, walked to the great hall with my face read from it and ink on my face I had no idea! "said Athena chuckling. Athena let the cool wind hit her face as it woke her up, it was peaceful here, she felt like she could fall asleep right here.


" That's a good thing so far, people who start nonsense rumors are stupid, they have no life but ruining others people's lives, it's pathetic and sad. "said Athena honestly. Athena giggled. " We'll be zombies together Vaughn, calming we only eat smart people's brains!"said Athena laughing softly. " I been good, thanks for asking Vaughan although I could be better, but I'm taking it one day at a time. "said Athena. Athena nodded. " Yeah I didn't want to go either, like I said, not fun going alone. Sure that'll be fun, but aren't you afraid that they might spread some crazy rumors that we're dating or something? "Athena asked him.  


" Wow...A chess set, that's amazing Vaughn! "said Athena amazed by his wood craving skills. "I'm sorry about you dad Vaughn, I hope he gets better. " said Athena. " That's awesome, I learned how to draw when I was little due to watching my mother drawing and painting things when I was little. Sure I would love to see your craving , I have a scrapbook of all the drawings I did, so I can show you them. " said Athena.

"Well at first I thought he wouldn't come up because of the people throwing rocks at him. He came up though and looked at me expectantly." Vaughn said laughing at the memory of him waiting patiently for his treat. "Of course not. There's a few times when during the summer I swam in the shallow end that he came up to see what I was doing. Scared me half to death because he came up right in front of my face." He laughed again at the memory. "Yeah it wasn't too pleasant but I made sure I didn't have ink stuck to my face." He turned his face to the wind and sighed softly taking in a deep breath.

"Yes it is pathetic and sad that they find ways to do that to someone. I suspect though that they do it because they are trying to focus ruin on others. So that someone doesn't see the ruin on their own lives." He said with a contemplative face. He laughed at her next statement, "Well that would be a good Halloween costume." He grinned at her laughing softly. "Oh I'm sure they would say something like that about us. It's always so much fun to keep them guessing at every turn." He gave her a mischievous smile. "Then again it could always back fire on themselves. I promise though that I will do my best to keep you from the harm of their poisonous tongues."

"Thanks Athena. It was a difficult task but I managed quite well." He said with a smile. "Thanks I'm hoping that he gets better soon. I took care of my brother the entire summer because of him falling ill." He gave her a small smile as he continued to whittle away. "Well maybe you can teach me a little bit about drawing and I can teach you some about whittling." He grinned at her and finished the object in his hand. Blowing off the excess wood that covered it and held it out to her. It was a bundle of roses that ended in a small intricate stem. "Now it just needs paint, then it would be perfect. Here you can have it, you can paint it however you would like." He said with a grin holding it out to her.

Athena nodded understanding what he meant, a couple of times he didn't come up to the kids throwing rocks at him being by the lake, so Athena didn't talk to him when they were out. Athena laughed. "Yeah I'm not a very good swimmer, but I feel into the lake one and he came up and seen if I was ok, that's was in my second year. " said Athena. " I sort of can't swim."said Athena blushing and looking down at her hands. " That's a good thing, was a bit embarrassing walking around with ink on me, I quickly ran to the nearest bathroom and scrubbed it off, so I try not to fall asleep in my books especially while writing an essay or so."said Athena laughing. 


" Quite sad they have to do that you know, I actually feel sort of sorry for them, its a pity they can't have a life because of it. " said Athena. Athena laughed. " Oh my goodness, yes it would make a great costume, we should dress up like that for Halloween! "said Athena. Athena laughed softly. " I agree keep them on their toes, every turn they make."said Athena giving him a mischievous smile. " Thanks Vaughn, that's sweet of you to do so, but I don't think I'm going to avoid it. " said Athena honestly before shruggingas if it wasn't no big deal. " Although if we stick together, then we can both avoid their poisonous tongues. " said Athena. .


"It sounds very difficult indeed, how do you know where to cut? I'll be afraid of cutting to deep or cutting myself! "said Athena chuckling. " You have a little brother? Wow...that's awesome, I'm the the middle child, I have a older brother and a little sister."said Athena. " I'm sure your father will get better soon, just have hope. " said Athena giving him a soft warm smile. " Sure that'll be great, I would love to learn, looks fascinating. " said Athena honestly. Athena took the bundle of roses and smiled. " Wow... it looks beautiful Vaughn, thanks!"said Athena. " I'll paint them later and show you the end results, although it does look pretty just how it is."said Athena honestly.

"Maybe I can teach you to swim, we won't be able to do it out here because the water is too cold. The room of requirements may be able to help," Vaughn said looking out across the water with a small smile on his face. "Sometimes it can be embarrassing stuff like that but sometimes it's good to laugh at yourself and the things we do." He laid back on the ground sighing softly.

"Some people are just cruel because they feel you are beneath them. They think it is life which is why they do things like that." He said with a smile, then laughed when she said they should do it for Halloween. "Maybe we should, it would be fun. We would have to practice moaning like zombies." He looked at her mischievous smile and laughed softly. "Yeah that's true, with me it seems like I have a fan club that doesn't like me. I'm just glad none of them have cameras yet." He said putting his hands behind his head. "That's true, well we can only hope we'd escape their tongues."

"Well that's the easy part, you can where you feel you need to. Well it takes some practice before you can move to thicker wood but it helps when your a beginner you where gloves." He said laughing remembering his first lesson. "Yeah he acts older than he is sometimes which kinda drives me nuts because he needs to stay little as long as possible. I think my mom wishes she would have been able to have another kid so she could have a girl. Someone she can talk to her, my brother and I go to our dad for anything guy related." He said remembering the letter he got from him two days ago. "It will take some time for you to work towards thicker wood." Hearing her say that it was beautiful made him smile more. "Your welcome, my mom always told me that girls would flock to me because I made things with my hands. I don't see it, anyone can make something with their hands so I don't understand what she means." Vaughn grinned when she said that she'd paint it. "Once it's done I'll make sure it's sealed and the paint doesn't chip."

Athena looked at Vaughn and smiled. " That would be nice Vaughn, but you don't have to, but if you want to that'll be great. "said Athena. Athena laughed. " Yeah afterwards I was laughing at myself for doing it, it was pretty funny afterwards, but the day it happened was totally embarrassing. " said Athena. 


Athena nodded. " I agree a hundred percent on that, it's like some of the Purebloods here, they thinkeeveryone is beneath them."said Athen . " Quite pathetic sad really, but not all Purebloods are like that, just the bad ones really. " said Athena honestly. Athena laughed. " The sooner we get to work on it the better we'll sound! "said Athena winking at him. " Give them time and they will, but we could always give them a show! "said Athena smiling mischievously. Athena didn't know what it was, but hanging out with Vaughn really was making her break out of her shyness shell some. " Yeah as long as we stay away from it, we don't have to hear it, unfortunately we have classes with them,so we can't avoid it all the time. "said Athena. 


Athena laughed. " I'm guessing that you had a great experience the first time you did it? "Athena asked him laughing. Athena laughed and smiled. " Tell him that he doesn't want to grow up, stay as young and little ad possible, growing up isn't fun!"said Athena honestly before chuckling. " Aw...that's to bad, my parents divorced last summer, I stay with my dad more but I see my mom every now and then. " said Athena. " I bet so, it you make it look easy when it really isn't, you just made something beautiful out a piece of wood that's talent. " said Athena smiling at him. Athena laughed. " My father told me told me that guys would want someone as smart and full of wonder like I am, I don't see it, but maybe I will who knows. " said Athena shrugging. " Sure that'll be great, I'll give it back to you once I finish painting it, you can watch me paint it if you like. "said Athena.

"Oh it's no trouble at all Athena. I would be happy to do it and it gives me something other than carving wood to do." Vaughn said grinning at her with a happy grin. "Yes I laugh at myself often for the things that I do."

"Yes well sometimes it comes to bite them in the rear. It's all the more fun when you get to see it happen to them." He said laughing softly remembering seeing it a few times. "That is true not all of them are horrible." He laughed at her next words and almost couldn't contain himself. "That is true I of course wonder what zombies actually sound like. I would hate to think I'd sound like a dying animal." He heard her reply and thought about it for a minute. "Well that is true we could give them a show about it. Then leave them guessing at every turn." He said with a mischievous grin on his face. "That is true we can't always avoid it."

"Oh no, I almost took off the tip of my thumb the first time." He said laughing remembering the memory. "I was so excited I ended up losing grip on the piece of wood. Yeah well my brother is always in a hurry to do something no matter what I tell him." He smiled fondly thinking of his brother. "I'm sorry that must be rough to go through," He said sitting up and putting a hand on her shoulder to comfort her. "Painting a beautiful picture needs talent as well." He said looking at her. "Yes there are many guys who like smart woman who are full of wonder. I'm sure that you'll have a fine husband one day. My mother fears I'll die a bachelor instead of marrying." He laughed at his mother's words on the matter. "It's yours to keep Athena, all I'll do is seal it so it doesn't faded or ruin with time."
