When the first two students walked in, Adrienne gave them each a smile, not bothering to suggest where they should sit. Students would do better, she felt, if they were comfortable. And while she couldn't be sure that they would be okay with the topics - Charms and Transfiguration - she supposed that she could at least hope that they chose a seat where they felt at ease.
Moving to stand beside the cage that was now rattling a bit thanks to the animals inside, Adrienne decided that she could go ahead and start the first day's topic. Lifting the cover off of the cage, she frowned as she looked down at the guinea fowl sitting there. They were not the prettiest creatures, but she supposed it wouldn't matter once the students had properly cast the spell. She dropped the cover onto the desk next to the cage, looking back at the students again.
"Alright! So we'll be covering a spell that is a fourth year level incantation, but hopefully you'll feel comfortable with asking questions, yeah? The animals here," she explained, pointing at the cage, "are called Guinea Fowl, and they have a bit of a temper. They don't like to stay in place. So before we can work on that transfiguration spell, we need to slow the animals down enough that our spells will not be flying all over the classroom. We don't want to hurt anyone while trying to catch our birds, after all."
Walking around to the front of the desk, Adrienne flicked her wand at the board, watching as the words 'Arresto Momentum' found their way onto the surface in chalk. "This spell is a second year charm that we are going to try. Each of you should come up to the cage, pick out a bird, and practice the spell on them. You simply wave your wand and say the words, and see if your guinea fowl calms down. There is no need to worry, as it won't hurt the animal at all."
She waved the students towards her, hoping they would be curious enough to come and try the spell. "Take a bit of time to work on that. Once you've finished, you can get my attention, and I'll give you the next step!"
