It was the early hours of the morning when the sound of wailing stirred Malowney from her sleep once again. She sighed and clasped her hand to her sweaty forehead, then kicked off the covers. The summer weather was really getting to her now, and she'd realized the painful lesson that she couldn't sleep without duvets on, but having them on was too hot. Malowney rubbed the sweat from her forehead and made her way to the twins' room. She fed them and changed them both, and then rocked Ivory to sleep first, then Theodore. Malowney kissed them both on the forehead and gently closed the door.
She was awake now, and she didn't want to go back to that stuffy old bedroom. After she'd given birth to the twins, she'd moved to a nicer house, but she was still saving up for a nice fan for her bedroom. The twins came first though, so her fan money was spent on Theodore's part of the room. (The room was only designed for one baby, so when she discovered it was twins she had rushed to get more supplies.) Malowney had spent a lot of money on the twins, and she knew it was all worth it, but sometimes she forgot about her own needs.
She made some iced tea and sat at the counter reading a Muggle magazine and sipping the tea through a spirally straw. It was childish, but she missed her home, where she came from, so she used the same crazy straws her mother bought for her. Malowney wished the twins had a father to care for them, but she barely remembered their father's name, let alone where he was now. And she didn't want to see him ever again. She'd tried to ring him and tell him she was pregnant, but he wouldn't listen and he said it was her problem. Malowney had almost smashed her phone to smithereens after that incident. And the bad thing was, she didn't know whether Ivory or Theodore were magical, because their father was most likely a Muggle.
So she was a bit clueless on her current situation. She'd have to wait until the children were older until she started seeing the tell-tale signs of magic. Or none of them being magical. Malowney tied her hair back into a messy bun, as the heat was really getting to her. She spent a few hours just kicking back and relaxing in her family home for her and the kids, until at six o'clock in the morning, a few shrill cries woke her from a peaceful nap on the sofa. She sighed and got off the sofa.
Time for her to put her needs second for another day.
