Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Starry Sky Empty Starry Sky

Post by Guest Sun Jun 23, 2013 8:44 pm

The third years had Astronomy earlier that night. It was a clear night and had been a great lesson, granted a few of the Gryffindor boys had been messing about and being a bit loud by Bertie had managed to zone it out. Unfortunately, by the end of the lesson the sheer volume of laughs that punctured the supposed to be transquil lesson was enough to make him forget his telescope.

He had simply got up from his spot and departed from the tower with the other Ravenclaws, leaving his brass scope behind. It was only when he was drifting off to sleep, his eyelids closing as they gazed sleepily at the stars above that he realised where his telescope was. At first he'd thought he had dreamt the whole thing, frantically looking around the dorm - much to the annoyance of the other third year boys - before deciding that he best go back to the Astronomy Tower to check.

Bertie never liked to venture around the castle at night, not only did he find it spooky and haunting but if a teacher were to catch him out of bed after hours he would be in big trouble and he wasn't the kind to enjoy being mischievous, not like Vivianna. The Slytherin sometimes had a certain disregard for the rules.

Creaking the door open the Ravenclaw ventured up the spiral staircase to the top of the tower, past shelves of globes, rolls of star charts and broken telescopes that were on shelves that curved around the staircase. Alas, he reached the top, but, he wasn't alone. His brown eyes widened in shock, he hadn't expected to bump into someone. 'Umm.. Sorry.' Bertie apologised to the person who was a silhouette against the full moon, the star-embroided dark curtain drawn behind it.

Starry Sky Empty Re: Starry Sky

Post by Ray Ignazia Mon Jun 24, 2013 2:34 pm

Ray sighed, a small wisp of air being released from his mouth as he looked up at the sky, his mind now calm as he was left alone in the observation, or Astronomy tower. His hands held a faintly bronzed scope, pointed up towards the sky, but he wasn't looking through it. He wasn't sure about why he was holding it, either. All he knew was that he was looking up at the sky, alone, trying to think of what he was doing. Things like this happened to him at times, and were pretty common, since he spent most of his time studying the lore behind magic, not paying attention to his whereabouts.

He now began paying attention to the sky itself, rather than his weird thoughts. The sky. Larger than what anyone could have ever thought it would be, extending into nothingness, going to a billion miles wherever it decided to. It was definitely one of the largest phenomena in the world, and to control it would be akin to controlling the biggest superpower in the world. Or one of them, atleast.

He regarded the empty Astronomy tower with apprehensive eyes. He did not like this place, even though right now it was empty and all to himself. Something a weird boy genius should like. He ran his hands over the equipment slowly, noticing their feel after being used for a complete day. They were unnaturally cold, and he relished that feeling, still looking up at the sky. He thought of removing his wand and shooting a random spell into the sky in order to test it's range, something which would allow him to plan duels accordingly. He reached into his pocket to pull his brilliant wand...

And teetered to the left as someone bumped into him. He looked down(yes, the person was shorter than he was) on the person, pulling out his wand, stepping back and pointing it at him, only to then realize that he was one of the third-years swarming the common room, only recognizable to Ray due to the oddly colored tuft of hair, which looked weird in the moonlight. Ray muttered a small "Lumos", lighting the tip of his wand with a bright light, allowing him to see better. "What are you doing here at this time of the night?"

Starry Sky Empty Re: Starry Sky

The light from the boys wand cast the pair into a dull light. Now Bertie could make out a ghostly face within the darkness of the astronomy tower: Ray Ignazia, a fellow Ravenclaw. Although that didn't relax him, he wasn't exactly close to Ray and there was a wand pointed towards him.

'I forgot my telescope.' The words were mumbled and muffled from the boy wrapping his robes tightly around his neck in the cold air, his brown eyes gazing down at his shoes. He wanted to ask what Ray was doing up here, after all he too was out of hours and if they were to both get caught then that'd be twice the amount of house points lost.

Spotting his telescope fixed onto the stone wall, Bertie stepped back before curving around Ray. 'Sorry to interrupt you.' What else did he say? Reaching the door he stopped, turning back to face Ray. 'What are you doing?' He tried not to make it sound accusatory, questioning his reason for being at the top of the tallest tower after hour, Bertie was genuinely curious.

Starry Sky Empty Re: Starry Sky

'I forgot my telescope.'

Ray looked at the kid. Wasn't he one of the more chirpy ones? Certainly didn't look chirpy right now. Infact, he looked nothing more than nervous. Was Ray weird enough to scare off a person like him? Probably. Ray almost smiled to himself, but that idea vanished as soon as it had come. He lowered his wand, turning away from the kid as he walked around him to get his telescope off the wall, and began backtracking towards the door. The kid seemed simple enough, easygoing and what not, from what Ray had seen of him in the common room.

He even had a name..something which Ray was sure he knew. Was it Herbie? No.....Ryan? Not even close. Bertie? Yes. Ray's eyes lit up as he remembered the kids name, something which he had heard being shouted out by another Third Year.  Making the most of it, he spoke, "Sorry for that, Bertie. Didn't mean to react so defensively." His voice, as usual, was flat and cold, but he tried supplying a little bit of emotion into it. So much for being a cold genius.

'What are you doing?

Ray turned around as fast as his body would allow him to, without losing control and/or being dizzy and falling down. He glared at the kid, but then realized that the tone wasn't full of attitude, it was rather curious. He relaxed for a bit, looking back up at the sky. "I'm looking at the greatest view ever, figuring out magic, and it's range, and the other things we could do. I'm also trying to record magical signatures, so I could get an insight into the first type of spatial magic ever used.", said the boy. He then did something which he never would do, otherwise. "You could join me if you wanted. Don't worry about being caught."

Starry Sky Empty Re: Starry Sky

(OOC: Sorry for a short reply and a late reply!)

Bertie tilted her head slightly, his eyes wide with interest. He wasn't quiet sure what magical signatures were, perhaps it was something the older students learnt about? Or maybe just something that Ray had decided to research himself, after all quiet a lot of the Ravenclaws enjoyed to look up different areas of magic expanding their knowledge.

'That sounds interesting.' Bertie responded, turning over his shoulder to the spiral staircase leading down back to the castle. It was a risk staying up after hours, but the chances were that they wouldn't get caught - besides if they did he'd just tell them the truth: he'd forgotten his telescope. 'What is spatial magic?' He asked, walking towards the barrier around the observatory, gazing out at the night sky - in particular he moon. Bertie had always been drawn to the moon.
